There's this storm that's been brewing for some time now, which might locomote into a tempest if left unencumbered. This politically motivated misconception about the origin of the "Igbo" race peddled by selfish miscreants looking to profit from the monstrous ignorance and sheer imprudence of the people. Firstly, Igbos are not Jews, let's stop disappointing our fore-fathers!. They'd be turning in their graves right now. I know the thrills of Christianity would have many wanting to align with the "chosen" people of Israel, leading to this futile attempt at connecting nonexistent dots. The stories of migration by "Eri" the son of Gad after the invasion of Israel by the Assyrians to south eastern Nigeria is an embarrassing farce. It defies standard reasoning and as such lacks veracity. How did they make it through the most uninhabitable desert in the Universe; the Sahara which had hindered the Roman, Ottoman, & Macedonian empires from penetrating further than North Africa into sub Saharan Africa? How did they travel over 5000km through the Sahara and yet no account of "wandering" Hebrews or Jews by any of the sephardic populations of northern Africa?. How did the supposed people of "Yahweh" start worshipping , Ani, Amadioha, Agwu , Ikenga and Owummiri?. It is pertinent to note that Pantheism or belief in numerous gods was alien to Hebrew culture. How come ancient Igbo land was still medieval and had no form of formal education when the supposed jews who instituted the society had attained a certain level of education?.These are important questions which the Igbo "Jews" should ask themselves. Probably the argument that is used the most as “proof” of a Jewish origin of Igbo people is the fact that they circumcise their infant males: Unfortunately, what they forgot to mention is the fact that circumcision on the 8th day is NOT universal in Igboland. There are places like Afikpo where it could be done as late as the teenage years. Furthermore, the burial of the umblical cord (ili alo) actually has far more significance than circumcision and actually does represent a covenant, between the child and Ani (the Earth deity), as well as the ancestors. Lastly, the two methods of circumcision are extremely different. Especially since in the Orthodox Jewish circumcision tradition, the mohel (the Jewish priest doing the circumcision rite) performs what is known as metzitzah b'peh, or oral suction, where he takes a mouthful of wine and then puts his mouth around the base of the boy’s penis and uses suction to clean the wound. This is a ritual that is NOT done anywhere in Igboland. Another claim that is made amongst the Igbo "Jews"is that they share the same dietary customs as those prescribed in the Levitical code. The following is a list of the foods that Igbos traditionally have eaten that are specifically banned in the book of Leviticus: “Unpure” animals that Igbos eat: Snail (ejuna), Lizard (Ngwere ), Bush pig ( Ezi ofia/ohia ), Crayfish (Isha/usha) , Crab ( Igbeni , nshiko), Beetle ( ebe), Rabbit (ewi ), Snake (agwo) My brothers, let us not be fooled by power-thirsty individuals who are ready to mortgage our history for their self aggrandizement. The Igbo race is blessed with rich heritage, which we should embrace and protect from being tossed into the frigid depths of extinction by pursuing this fleeting thrill of Messianism. Igbo kwenu! Even ancient Igbo scholars like Olaudah Equiano acknowledge the Igbo links to Hebrew. Why is it that every few years or so, two perfectly black Igbo couples give birth to white babies who are discovered not to be bastards after rigorous DNA and other tests? All that is known about them is that a minority of them possibly have small dna traits from several generations ago of someone who might have migrated down south from the Levant and bred with natives. All the Jewish traditions they adopted are recent additions to their culture.
