Well ds letter if intent thingy.one should get sufficient information and decide if u want to write or not. It depends on favour, the Poe,experience of the officer. I planned to give my Poe stories later but can't ignore this. Letter of change of intent almost sent m back to naija I entered via the Philadelphia Poe probably not a common Poe. The guy after asking for reason for my visit.if I notified the embassy of change from vacation to childbirth sent me to secondary inspection The only thing the officer in sec inspection kept shouting about was that after notifying the embassy of the change they should have revoked the visa since it was no longer to serve purpose of issuing it. I was like "wwwwhhhhaaaaatttttt' He was just boiling and kept saying he does not know whats happening in this foreign consulate bla bla bla It was not funny cos left to him he wanted to return me based on that. If not for God.he then stamped me in up to date on my return ticket which was less than 6 months. So all depends on God,the Poe, the officer u meet And his level of bias towards the black and the mission to have 'the American baby' So just choose a Poe that s used to seeing letter of intent change or whatever and pray pray 3 Likes |

4tiwa: Stop waving race card and learn how to tell the damm truth when dealing with immigration issues. If you applied for visa to go on vacation do just that and if your intention is to give birth then make that clear at the interview. 7 Likes |

justwise:We 're talking about applying for vacation and then deciding later on whatever reasons or whatever grounds to have a birth. A lot of pple still go for interviews not knowing that dey could actually tell dey are going for birthing.at least I dint know until I joined ds group which was much after I got the visa Just saying..... No race card whatever intended.... If that's d way u feel Just relax sir 1 Like |

4tiwa: Its a problem because this has become a common occurrence here, somebody applied for visa for vacation and within days/weeks she decided to give birth with the visa and send letter of change of intent. This does not make sense, if you were not pregnant during the visa interview then go for vacation then use the visa for child birth when you got pregnant. There is no need sending letter of change of intent when you have used the visa for the purpose of which it was issued. The budget for vacation is not the same as that of child birth, letter of change of intent will not contain info about how much you have for the child birth, hospital name,Dr's correspondents and other details. 9 Likes |

4tiwa: The CBP officer was right and don't be surprised if this becomes the norm - revoking visas should you use it for a different purpose other than what you stated at the visa interview. Favor or not, expect a harder time at your renewal as the CBP officer is likely to have entered his thoughts on your profile and it will invite additional scrutiny at the embassy. As the visa officers here have reiterated over and over again - letters of intent are simply a way to circumvent visa requirements. What is asked of you when applying for a tourist visa is completely different from when applying for a medical visa. It is unfair to label the CBP officer as biased towards blacks... he/she probably sees this type of misuse of the visa everyday. He probably let you in only because technically, you did not commit a crime - not because of "God's favor" ( a term misused way too often here). 10 Likes 1 Share |

TWoods: hello, with all due respect ,it 100% true there is bias and racial prejudice in the American system even at the boarder post ....send a white European from Bulgaria, Croatia,,Ukraine, Russia Cyprus, Poland, or Romania to the same officer if they will make the same comment . Absolutely no!!! and what i love most about this forum is even the authority are reading and trying to make amendment to some of the issues raised , so let keep the words, information , the debate and to Communicate in a Healthy, Constructive Manner with no insult or been too judgmental regarding issues . 3 Likes |

markmard: Well if we are being honest, how often would the CBP encounter fraudulent applications from citizens of those countries, compared to us? Lets call a spade a spade, their suspicion is valid and is a result of the actions of our brothers and sisters. We can't keep hiding under the banner of "racial bias" forever. Ask yourself, if you were a CBP officer, what would you say if someone presented themselves at the border seeking entry to have a child when the visa information on that person said absolutely nothing of the sort? As the VOs have enumerated here many a time - letters of intent are a uniquely Nigerian invention - purposefully used to circumvent the usual visa process. Color me surprised that the CBP officers are immediately suspicious as soon as you present a Nigerian passport. 4 Likes 1 Share |

Hello everyone, I got into Atlanta on Thursday morning and will share my POE experience very soon, meanwhile any june-Aug Atl mum-to-be in the house? Wanted to use northside hospital but it's very far from where I am staying, so, i am thinking of using Piedmont since my Dr. is affiliated to both hospitals and it's closer. Has anyone used Piedmont before? What's the fee like (going there on Monday to get the quote tho) and also, how was the experience There? However, any mum-to-be in Georgia atm can send me an e-mail and let's connect. Thanks 5 Likes 1 Share |

. From what people say here, it seems they apply for a Tourist/visiting visa and then send a letter of intent to change visa a short while later. Which does come off as fraudulent. After all, unless you're saying you only realized a week later you were pregnant and decided to make such plans, it looks like you were circumventing the VO's ability to judge your visa application. And, you have no idea whom is a VO or married to a VO, on NL, reading your comments and passing them on. So, don't be surprised in the near future, an official announcement is made about the Letter of Intent, declaring it null and void. Then the fun starts. Just be honest from the get-go when applying for your visa, medical tourism in the US is not a crime. It is a nation of Immigrants and it's constitutional to get US citizenship (though it's in the works to change it as middle America dislikes the idea. I once met a lady planning on lying to CBP about why she was in the US, pregnancy and all. Because she said everyone in Nigeria advised her to just say "vacation" and then go on to give birth. 2 Likes |

FrontPageLawyer: Of course I do not know more than the consuls, which is why my very first post on this issue was the direct quote from the visa officers here themselves. Thou dost protest too much... it is not clear to me why you're taking the issue so personally. Sounds to me like you're more upset that you have to apply for a visa in the first place. Relax. It's not life and death. 2 Likes |

markmard:I disagree, if you watch border security: Americas front line you will see they turn back anybody anyhow. Intact, dem de wait Canadians for border, I've seen them send back Germans, a family from UK, canceling their ESTA and asking them to apply for visa henceforth. Mexicans nko? Are they black? Chicago POE doesn't send race, if you enter their secondary inspection, na rainbow, all races. It will shock you that its blacks that are most hostile to Africans because of this underlying misconception that you think you are better than them. 6 Likes |

OK,so I arrived the US yesterday through Dallas. I flew Qatar airline at 34weeks and the POE was a breeze. My seat was changed in the plane, I was given a whole row(3seats) to sleep so I didn't really feel the journey was loooonng. Thanks to the air hostesses, and we were served jollof rice in the plane...I loved that! Had only about 4hrs layover in Doha. Arriving the Dallas airport was like arriving Oshodi market, the crowd was massive, I was allowed to join the B1/B2 visa holders queue right in front because I am a pregnant. We took turns to scan our passport, it got to my turn and I spent less than 3 mins doing that. The receipt was printed out and I was directed to get my bags after which I proceeded to Immigrations. The officer that attended to me only asked a few questions and stamped me in in less than 2 mins. Officer: Hello ma'am. What brings you to the US this time? I: I am here to give birth to my baby Officer: Oh! You Pregnant? I: Yes How much do you have on you? I: $$$$ Officer: Have you paid part of your bills? I: No Officer: Where would you be staying? I: (showed her the address) The same place I stayed when I was here the last time Officer: Oh, you have been here before? I: Yes ma'am! Officer: (Stamps me in and hands over my passport) Wish you the best then. Did you come with any form of food? I: No Officer: That's fine then. You can go. It was really short. PS: So I got into Dallas just for my host to tell me somebody called from Dr Stimage office that she is fully booked for July and can't accept me. I sent her my medical records and EDD by email last Monday. Now I have to start searching for a DR at 34weeks. Mamas that have given birth in Dallas, pls lead me cos I am too frustrated to search now. Thanks. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Dear Nairalander, I urgently need help concerning my case which I'll explain below so you good people can grasp my condition and help out accordingly: We applied for B1/B2 Tourist visa on the May 26th and to God be the glory it was issued to the entire family of four...myself, my wife, 5yrs and 3 yrs old boys. We were supposed to go to New York for the vacation by June but duty calls due to some urgent concern at my company and I had to return to my work station in Qatar where I'm working as an Engineer, we then agreed to postponed the vacation till January 2017 which would be my annual leave. My wife called a week later that she think she was pregnant and I've been having a sleepless night ever since because a lot of things are at stake, I immediately begin to make inquiry how this new development would impact our chance of getting to US by January considering the pregnancy would be 7 months or thereabout and evident hence it can't be hidden from the officer at the POE. I am capable to finance the birth of my child in the US but my challenge is...would they allows us entry into the US because I've heard series of advise from people.... - some said I should enter before the pregnancy becomes 3 months by when it would be obvious and noticed by the CBP - some said even at 7 months, they will allow us entry provided we can show evidence of medical reports from a US hospital - some said we'll be deny and the visa cancelled. I can't leave Qatar now as my annual is not until January except I want to resign my position. Pls good people, I need your advise cos decision needed to be made. Thanks. |

Hello lovely people ! Please this is my case: I got a B1/B2 visa this June with hubby & son, said we were going on summer vacation next month. (Shld have read nairaland before doing that). My EDD is November and I plan to travel October (i'm thinking of Texas coz I heard hospital is cheaper there, still researching abt that) I can't write to embassy for change of intent coz I'm scared of rejection since I didn't declare that I will give birth there during d visa interview (tho I wasn't asked if I was pregnant, d VO jst faced only hubby). They might calculate and know that we lied Now I think I'm left with looking for an easy POE. Pls what do you all think? I need your good advice. Also pls which POEs are easier? |
