Speaking in tongues is a manifestation of the holy spirit.

The holy spirit manifested AFTER the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Jesus couldn't not have spoken in tongues.

How can you say:
''The holy spirit manifested AFTER the resurrection of Jesus Christ''

Read 1 Corinthians 12:7-10, to see how each person has been given the ability to manifest in different ways, the Holy Spirit

Jesus had manifested all the mentions in 1 Corinthians 12:7-10 (i.e. speaking in tongues inclusive) BEFORE and not AFTER His resurrection

calberian:

Jesus did speak in tongues
but didnt have to speak in more than the necessary tongue(s) needed for His listening audience

Personally and IMHO, John 11:33 and Rom 8:26 arent verses that support Jesus spoke in tongues

Paradigmpastor:
John 11:33
John 11:33 is a combination of groaning and display of empathy
and not a proof that Jesus spoke in tongues

Paradigmpastor:
and Rom 8:26 prove that Jesus actually spoke in tongue
Rom 8:26, is not speaking in tongue
It is, to some degree similar to John 11:33 above, (e.g. moaning or groaning expression coming from within induced the spiriit)
and so equally like John 11:33, Rom 8:26 too, doesnt qualify to serve as proof, that Jesus actually spoke in tongue

Moaning or any other sounds made during or in the heat of passion
and groaning done to convey pain, despair, pleasure etcetera
or any other sounds made when cornered and backed against a concrete wall isnt speaking in tongues

The three recorded evidences of speaking in tongues in the bible, occurred for a purpose and/or to serve that purpose

Each instance of the three recorded speaking in tongues happened with articulated utterances
that were coherent enough to other present audiences admitting and understanding the spoken tongues
(e.g. refer to Acts 2:8, Acts 10:46 and Acts 19:6)

For Jews demand miraculous signs (i.e. ask for signs)
and Greeks ask for wisdom (i.e. philiosophy)

- 1 Corinthians 1:22

So you see that speaking in tongues is a sign, not for believers, but for unbelievers.
Prophecy, however, is for the benefit of believers, not unbelievers.

- 1 Corinthians 14:22

For any that might have been misinformed, it is a well documented truth as seen in 1 Corinthians 14:22 above
that speaking in tongues is not for believers, rather it is used as a sign for unbelievers (i.e. 1 Corinthians 1:22a)

Where in the bible did Jesus speak in tongues?
Whenever and wherever you read in the bible Jesus teaching or preaching, is where in the bible He spoke in tongues
An example is Mark 5:41's ''Talitha cumi!'' or ''Talitha kum!''

Out of curiosity, how many tongues do you speak in?

I like this

mhm we need to understand things clearly, before following dogmatically, even the bible ask to seek wisdom, knowledge and understanding.

Speaking in tongues is actually good, but it's not for everybody. Or else it becomes a child's play thing.

A lot of preachers make it sound as if it is the only proof that you are in the spirit. That's a NoNoNo, I call it dogma.

All these speaking in tongues in new generational churches na lie. grin it is all a continuous babbling of senseless rubbish. I remember when I used to attend those churches, in Christ embassy(BLV) one of the church leaders asked me if I spoke in tongues and I said no. He asked me to come over and to be enabled to pray in tongues. He prayed for me to speak in tongues but I no connect grin he pray sotey but I no connect grin then I order to commot the place and make I no embarrass am, I started mumbling rubbish and the guy said "yes, that's it." grin each time I remember this, I just smh with laughter.

In another church, the pastor tried and tried but in order not to feel awkward and to embarrass the pastor, I started mumbling incoherent nonsense and pastor that's it grin angry grin. He said he even saw the holy spirit bringing utterances to my spirit. shocked cheesy grin. Àwọn wereys.

The speaking in tongues of the new generational churches is bunk.

He didn't speak in other languages not popular in his day. He no doubt spoke Aramaic, Hebrew, etc. But not more tongues as was evident after Pentecost.

True that and Proverbs 4:7 springs to mind

marlerya:
Speaking in tongues is actually good
All the 3 recorded times, speaking in other tongues occurred in the bible,
it was noted that it happened each time, for the benefit of unbelieving Jews

marlerya:
but it's not for everybody. Or else it becomes a child's play thing
The primary purpose for speaking in tongues, was/is not for use as a talisman,
neither to used as quicker or easier mystical shortcuts to prayers or worship

marlerya:
A lot of preachers make it sound as if it is the only proof that you are in the spirit.
7But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit with.
8For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom;
to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit;
9To another faith by the same Spirit;
to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit;
10To another the working of miracles;
to another prophecy;
to another discerning of spirits;
to another divers kinds of tongues;
to another the interpretation of tongues
11It is the one and only Spirit who distributes all these gifts.
He alone decides which gift each person should have

- 1 Corinthians 12:7-11

Lots of preachers make it sound like they havent read 1 Corinthians 12:7-10 to know about the other 8 manisfestation of the Spirit
They also act like they dont care about 1 Corinthians 12:11 showing who and where the buck stops with
(i.e. 1 Corinthians 12:11 shows, who is responsible, and who decides who gets what)

marlerya:
That's a No No No, I call it dogma.

'Talitha cumi!'' is Aramaic
Jesus had Greek audiences/visitors, so possibly off the record, spoke the Greek
Also his conversation with Pilate was possibly in Greek
The scroll he read from in the temple is written in Hebrew, so possibly spoke Hebrew
Though the inscription on the cross, was written in 3 languages (i.e. Hebrew, Latin and Greek)
Latin isnt considered to be part of his language repertoire

JMAN05:
But not more tongues as was evident after Pentecost.
5And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
6Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together,
and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.
7And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?
8And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?
9Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,
10Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene,
and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,(i.e. both Jews and converts to Judaism)
11Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.
12And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?

Yes, Jesus spoke in tongue. As someone has already mentioned, speaking in tongue is not a must for everyone. It's not the only manifestation but it's one of the manifestation of the Holy Spirit.

And without the Holy Spirit Jesus couldn't have fifill his ministry or assignment.

Is this what speaking in tongues means? Speaking in different languages, being bilingual and multilingual? Is that it? Speaking in tongues is it not called glossolalia and speaking several languages called polyglotism? What am I missing here?

How are they even the same?

Of course the charismatic practice of 'speaking in tongues' is glossolalia and not polyglotism. There's no evidence whatsoever that Jesus indulged in such a practice or even spoke Greek. But Christians are never one to let a few facts get in the way of a good chinwag!

Glossolalia is speaking in tongues
Polyglotism is speaking different languages. It is not interchangeable. Which one is being practice in Christianity cos I haven't seen a single soul that understand what the other is saying during the speaking in tongues session. So how is that speaking in different language?
