My biggest concern with South Africa's defence affairs is the sensationalised media. I once read a main media article years ago banishing the purchase of the Badger. The reporter who obviously had no military background information went on about how many schools would have been built with the money.

As I said, the military should have a black budget and place things under the Secrecy Bill to stop journalists from snooping around on sensitive defence issues.

Our own media is equally mediocre though tbh there was a large element of Britain through the efforts of its high commish,Edward Clay (btw,he was byatch slapped and manhandled by the defmin in a State house argument at this time-true story!!) instigating its local media players in a similar incident in 2005 with our Spanish built 85 m OPV. Russia hopes to sign mega deal with Egypt to supply T-90 main battle tanks

Russian defence companies are hoping to sign the mega deal with Egyptian Armed Forces to supply T-90MS main battle tanks (MBTs).

That was reported by www.menadefense.net with a reference to the Russian source.

According to the source, the Egyptian Armed Forces is looking to acquire newly T-90MS main battle tanks. The Egypt’s Army can order about 400 or 500 new T-90MS MBTs, including a number of kits for local assembly from Uralvagonzavod in Russia.

Russia also signed a major contract for the supply of T-90MS tanks to a country in the Middle East, Russian Industry and Trade Minister Denis Manturov.

“Over these two years, as expected, a number of tests have been carried out in several Middle East countries. In December, a major contract was signed with one of Middle East countries. There are plans to sign another contract soon,” Manturov said at the IDEX 2017 exhibition.

The T-90MS is the latest version of the Russian T-90 main battle tank. It is also referred as Tagil or Proryv. It has a number of improvements and improved operational capabilities over the original T-90. This tank was first revealed in 2011. It is being proposed for various export customers.

Their AF has 200+ FSBs including Rafales, F 16 C and Ds and even MIG 35 s whIle their light lifters include around 15 C 295 s alone! Pls tell us the purpose of all this steel; to threaten Isreal, be undispouted King of the Arab world: what??

The Egyptian army is an enormous institution , which controls everything in Egypt ( you cant even imagine) , from politics to the economy and justice , they are active in the all field : agro-food, construction, energy, health, pharmaceutical industry, service transport telecommunication, tourism, bank and also sport they have their Own clubs! A very big busness according to report the army control 40 to 45% of all egyptian economy . So they do what they want .

Add to this, They are considered as the Arab regional super power and protective force of the countries of the arabic gulf, and countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab emirat pays them billions for their purchase of armaments ( all the last contract was paid by the countries of the golf) . and egypt support them diplomatically ! ( exemple last clash with qatar) and military ( war in yemen)


Add to this they use Israel as an alibi , and get after camp david accord billions each year of military equipment from USA . that fear also that an Islamic movements comes to power in egypt and burns the region so they give them more money and supply for their army

The solution here is to keep the media out of military acquisition issues. When you give the media too much freedom they tend to run their own show just to sell their news.... The media should report on civil service issues.
