Sorry about your ordeal. I think easiest thing to do is to get a Payoneer MasterCard, which automatically makes a U.S account holder.
You don't have to worry about exchange rates. You can load money onto your card by receiving payments or buying dollar from another payoneer account holder. Which comes at a cheaper rate than Nigerian banks.
