not only that there is no purpose as a country. I think the executive is the one to set the tone for the country even if it means being harsh to some powerful people, the president has to put everyone in NASS and judiciary "in check" otherwise they will do whatever they want and every arm will pursue its own antagonistic aganda for the country.

Let the executive takes its responsibility and let them know that they were elected by Nigerians irrespective of tribes to conduct a specific agenda set during compagn and as such will forcefuly deliver, whether they want it or not

Are those road and expressway projects recurrent expenses? I presume they were supposed to be taken care of in a particular fiscal year as capital projects. Why are they appearing on every year's budgetary estimates? I think the National Assembly did well to reduce these expenses. Corruption is just been carried out every day through these ministries that keep on allocating hard earned tax payers moneys for supposedly capital projects like purchase of computers, construction of roads etc in the budget every year. These men in the executive suits must not just do whatever seems best to them at the expense of the masses. Thumbs up to NASS for reducing the stonky budgetary allocations. As for Fashola, if the contractors threaten to abandon the projects, use the approved allocation and hire new contractors to complete the projects. Is that what you people tell civil servants whenever they threaten to go on strike? No Work, No Pay, you will tell them, so do same to the contractors or are they above the No Work, No Remittances?Whether SAN or not, the legislators have the constitutional right to alter any unscrupulous budgetary estimates. God bless Nigeria.
A road project can last for three or four years. The budget allocation is for the work that will be done in that particular year. All the money will not be in one year's budget. That is why those big highway projects seem to be recurring. Please, get educated.

It's so easy to manipulate Nigerians. Especially if you put in fashola in the story.

Of course, using second Niger bridge and Lagos ibadan Road will be a good way to whip up emotions.

The executive have captured projects in locations of interest to specific members of the the executive in the budget, leaving out others. While making arrangements of how to "chop"

What the legislature did was to ensure other areas are captured. There are federal roads in various constituencies that were left out, who will then work on such projects.

Of course fashola wants to complete Lagos - ibadan Road. What about other roads, what about East West Road. Shouldn't they compete it? What is the allocation for the road, will it complete it also? You want to abandon the road?

This thing cuts across. Nigerians, please we've insulted the legislature enough. The executive is manipulating you.

Nigerians please open your eyes.

This is why we need to restructure. Let every region fix their roads. Let's see how they will control regional revenue from ABUJA.

Wetin be your problem? Somebody said the billions allocated can only do boreholes and you are here quarreling with me. Why don't you ask for the break down of the contract both for roads and boreholes and see how inflated the cost is? Or you want to tell me that the money budgeted last year was not enough to do more than what we are seeing on the Lagos Ibadan road? If you care so much for the 2nd Niger bridge take your fight to the office of the ministry of works so he can make it a priority instead of boreholes.

From what I hear, the budget was signed based on an agreement that the executive will raise a supplementary budget for these projects. This is the reason why I pray the recall of Dino succeeds, so these senators know they are not untouchable.

This is quite naive of you. The abandoned project issues we have all over the country are as a result of this mentality.

So when you restructure, your leaders will change right? What were SE senators looking at when NA were reducing budget of the SNB? These same NASS members and gos will still be the leaders after restructuring so what difference does it make? People just like to latch on to buzz words, so you think restructuring will stop corruption? Think again

Scrap the Senate. Scrap it, scrap it. More than anything, it is an obstacle to progress.

Some people stay there for life, chopping money and destabilizing things. Mention one remarkable good achievement of that chamber. In spite of their budget (which remains a mystery), we cant point to their contributions.

How can a law making body turn itself to a pseudo-executive arm? Joblessness of the first order.

Scrap the Senate.

Fashola did not complain about other Federal projects. He only complained about reducing the allocation to Federal projects and then diverting them into constituency projects which are actually state and local government projects.

Why not open your own eyes properly before advising others to do same??

Fashola clearly stated that the plan is to complete all ongoing projects before starting new ones! The last administration awarded a lot of projects that were partially funded, what is the sense in abandoning those ones and starting new ones again? What is the sense in moving funds to supposedly state roads without design and tender bids? How did the NASS members arrive at the financial figures they put there?

The East West road you mentioned is also an ongoing project, would it have made any sense to have it abandoned while the NASS members are putting in state roads and boreholes as constituency projects??

How does adjusting amounts in the budget controlled by the federal government equate to amassing wealth by the legislatures? These projects Fashola is talking about were they not part of previous budgets too? Is it not the coordinating minister that will still release the money? How will it benefit the senators?
Fashola said the fund that are supposed to go for major federal roads has been short changed by the lawmakers for state and constituency projects

The statements from the Minister clearly show the depth or lack of it of our legislature.

How do you appropriate for a project that has not been designed, costed and scheduled? At least, we are beginning to see why Nigeria seems not to be making any substantial progress.

How pathetic to find a core minister lamenting his helplessness! You need no ghost to tell you how bleak his tenure will be!

The defrauded masses of Nigeria must evolve statergically out of their present helplessness. We cannot continue in unending plaintive rantings. In fact, the rogues now call us toothless bunch of complainers as their pillage continues unabated! Our lame kickings count for nothing to them. Like trendy robbers, they now place the people on notice of the time, place, mode and operandi of robbery and actually go ahead to execute as planned, knowing the haplessness of the Nigerian victims.

Don't you see that as an avenue for the abandoned projects everywhere in Nigeria? What will happen if all these roads were awarded to be completed in one year without leaving for the next year's fiscal budget. What if a new govt comes in and decide to abandon the project that the previous government had spent billions without completion? I think we don't need all these yearly allocation of funds to a particular project if there is proper management of our budgetary allocations.

This is laughable that the federal govt does not have the capacity to offset the cost once. Are those projects worth the entire budget of Lagos in a year? Simply put, we need proper fund management.

This is quite naive of you. The abandoned project issues we have all over the country are as a result of this mentality.

Don't you also think that the cause of abandoned projects across the country is as a result of this part allocations (if it is true) of funds to projects? When a new govt comes and push away the projects as a priority, the projects become abandoned and the money spent on it, becoming a waste? Let's be sincere and see the truth.

...It's one of the oversight functions of the NASS to look into the various ministries. I believe that there may be a reason for the review.

In my own personal opinion, this is the best National Assembly I have seen in the history of this country. I so much like their BI PARTISAN stands on issues.

Even though good governance is the birth right of citizens, most governments would not serve you your rights on a platter of gold, least of all, a thieving government as is prevalent in black Africa.

It remains that the progressives of the land must begin to teem in their masses everywhere, from the hamlets to villages, towns and cities to demand their unnegotiable rights to happiness and good things of life which God has long provided. They must rise up in progressive pressure groups,NOT POLITICAL PARTIES, to tackle government, one on one, on issues of accountability and probity on scarce public resources. Public spirited Pressure groups, without any affinity for government posts, must rise to equate and checkmate government to demand and obtain the God given rights of deserving citizens
