Please stop asking people to pm you for an interview, try as much as you can to answer question regarding interviews openly here, this is an interactive forum.

There is nothing about visa interview that can not be discussed openly here

Thank you.

Oga Justwise, while I understand that your comment is aimed at maintaining the traffic on this forum, I also need to kindly inform you that the selfless help from people like texRem, Lagosismyhome, walspring etc have gone a long way to earn myriads of people the help they needed when they were most despondent. This guy (texrem) answers questions here and we all benefit from him, but for interviews, it's a different story o cos it's a voice thing and it's one on one. Transcripts can be typed, but not interviews. You can't type response pace, neither can you type composure, you can't even type confidence and so on. You might need to change a particular response of an interviewee several times, how do you type this without clogging the thread? And there is yet to be a feature here that accommodates voice note. Please cut him some slack, at least forever. Thanks

Students in the US, what credit cards do you use? Please don't mention them big banks... Their wahala too plenty.

I beg to differ for the following reasons:

1. F1 student visa interviews did not start last week. They've been in existence long before some of us were born... ergo a mock interview is no guarantee of visa success.

2. There is no reliable statistics to indicate that success level significantly increases with a mock interview.

3. A mock interview is not needed if you're truthful and a bonafide student. The questions asked simply pertain to your selected school, major and career plans. You only need a mock for prepared (usually false) answers.

4. VOs are highly trained to spot canned answers.

Bottom line, there is zero benefit to mock interviews.

Depending on your interpretation of the purpose of mock interview .......

The mock i have done has never been about lies .... some people dont know how to articulate well and just need to be coached how to highlight their experience . How to answer questions correctly...

It laughable that u think mock has anything to do with lies or false answers ..... that because u tailored you mind that things about Nigerians are about lies...shame then . We are not as terrible as you think

Most of the Top Business schools have career teams which teach their students how to sell themselves well. How to write their Resume well and a lot more. What has lies or false answers got to do with anything

Thanks so much for your response ma'am i want to make it clearer:
my friend got an admission for fall/summer 2017.
She has been granted visa for the program that is supposed to start in august Fall/summer.
An event has occurred and she needs to differ till Spring 2018 or even fall 2018.
she is still in Nigeria and has not travelled to the US.

Question1: would she be able to differ her admission to spring or fall so far she doesn't exceed on year?

Question2: can she use this current visa for her program in spring or fall 2018?

Question 3: her passport expiration would be less than six months after her program if she differs her admission and is able to travel with the current visa, would she need to make another passport and attach to the current passport with visa?

Couldnt understand this post.... spring 2017 has passed. Then 6 months to end of program . I really dont understand

If she has only 4 months left at the time of travel and that against the rule of 6 months then really its a given that YES she should get a new passport . ...rules are best followed

A visa doesnt have to be in a current passport. You just use rubberband and hold the two passports together and travel.....

Thank you @gaviria and @observer25.
Mr observer, sadly I didn't get any funding, but I'm looking to get one in the Spring or an internship through CPT, if possible.

Sorry, I don't know how to quote previous messages.

Its not any different, like i said before success stories here started way before the mock interview, you don't provide a solution for a non-existing problem

I percieve that what you are trying to say is that your friend got admitted and she's got the visa and she cannot travel for summer 2017 but wants to go for spring 2018. Now here's the thing ,she can only use that visa if,only if her spring resumption date falls within the six month that she's supposed to travel and by travel i mean the time-frame with which she's suppose to have gone through customs and stuff like that...

but if she defers it and her resumption date doesn't fall within those six months or at least two weeks late..
( I say two weeks late cos' i've read on some websites where people testified to this and them being accepted at the POE).
You have to know that the U.S visa is like a permit, which if you fail to obey teir rule they can revoke it. All in all it's best for her to go within 6 months of her visa approval, also these must tally with the six months...
1. The fact that her getting to the POE must be within thirty days ealier of her start of classes.
2. At most 2 weeks late after her start of classes..
Anything aside these which cannot be explicitly explained would not be considered.

thanks for your eesponse sir.

1)Yes
2)Yes
3)Uh Yes.
Visa is valid for a year, Admission is also valid for a yr.. If she deffers her admission to another session its fine as long as it doesn't exceed one yr.
UPDATE
I just said the above, its no where near easy lol.
Pls first off all make sure her school is willing to reserve a space for her in another session, They will issue her a new i20 with a new resumption date, with the same SEVIS ID she has in her old i20, So she need not go for any interview again.
The 5 month F-1 rule does not apply in her case as she hasn't commenced her studies yet. So She is safe. And Renew her passport.
Cheers.

I don't think I have conditioned my mind... the facts bear themselves out. Take a Nigerian passport to any consulate in the world and see the reaction. The term "nigerian scam" has become almost normal lingo the world over... last I checked, I did not singularly plant those ideas. If most people told the truth at visa interviews, we would be a visa waiver country today.

Again I challenge anyone to produce evidence that mock interviews work. They are no better than flipping a coin. You should not require a mock session to answer questions on why you selected your school and what your future career plans are in a less than 3 minute interview.

Last but not least, the example about MBA students is not valid. They face wide ranging exhaustive interviews for highly placed job positions. I'm sure if their interviews only consisted of asking them for their date of birth, reason for choosing their school or provide just two examples of courses taken... they would not need packaging.

In Nigeria, we "package" everything - shorthand for saying we simply look for every avenue to beat the system.

You are 100% wrong. If US interview is all about the truth, no one will even need this forum.
You can say all the truth you want and can still be denied.

Just pick these two scenarions. Had 2 cousins who went for interview.

Scenario 1: Do you have any relatives in the US?
Cousin 1: (told the truth) I have 2 uncles and an auntie there.
VO: you don't have strong ties to suggest you will come back. Denied

Cousin 2: Same question. (Lied) No family members. He plans to come back after graduation (false).
VO: Approved.

Is not all about the truth. I believe they sometimes unintentionally penalize those who tell the truth. What is a student's offense to have a relative residing in the US? But you get screwed up for that at times. Is all about strategy.

Action and reaction. It is called an interview for a purpose. You need to prepare adequately not just reading transcripts. Same thing we do for job interviews.

Allow people to do what works for them.

Take a step back, reconsider the scenarios above... at the end of the day, you'd still come back to truth as the key factor. what you're suggesting is much worse... should cousin 1 have lied, it would be relatively easy to find out. As at present, he/she still has plenty of opportunity to build ties and reapply. Many success examples here. If he/she had lied, that would be a permanent damage to the reputation and potentially lead to a lengthy ban. All in all, the truth still trumps a lie any day.

Imagine if we all were honest, we would not need to fast and pray for a visa. That is the bottom line.

I had an incredibly busy week so really looking forward to a weekend of partying and resting so no time for long type

Nigerians are scam artist yeah....so are some Americans and the rest of the world . Is it only Nigerians that commit crimes.... Arent americans jail full with their citizens...... Didnt George Bush scam the country with ghost evidence of WMD . Google 10 biggest fraudsters no Nigerian dey there

We are not perfect , yes my hope is more people continue to give Nigeria a good name in the future and not a bad name . However bad we are , we have loads of positive people as well as those who have done great things.

You can apply anytime as long as you're ready. No one will stop you from applying 5 times sef. I got mine the third time. Just work on all your flaws and it'll be fine. The chances of getting yours is still the same with someone going for the first time and you already have lil experience. Because every interview is done independently of the previous one you had. So just know where you messed up the last time. Do mock interviews, have good answers to all the questions that you've seen in people's transcripts.

Not exactly @bolded. Now..he has to be ready to explain what changed from previous interviews, which can be more difficult except he just gets lucky with a new VO
