Biafra And South Sudan. by KEVIND: 2:04pm On Jun 25, 2017 |
i am not in support of any clamour for secession because there's strength in our diversity. we can maximise it. but i don't understand why we tend to use south sudan as template when we have other countries that got their independence from 1990 and they're doing quite fine. Since the year 1990, 34 new countries have been created. The dissolution of the USSR and Yugoslavia in the early 1990s lead to the creation of most of the newly independent states. You probably know about many of these changes, but a few of these new countries seem to slip by almost unnoticed. This comprehensive listing will update you about the countries which have formed since. UNION OF SOVIET SOCIALIST REPUBLICS Fifteen new countries became independent with the dissolution of the USSR in 1991. Most of these countries declared independence a few months preceding the fall of the Soviet Union in late 1991: FORMER YUGOSLAVIA Yugoslavia dissolved in the early 1990s into five independent countries: OTHER NEW COUNTRIES Thirteen other countries became independent through a variety of circumstances: Armenia,. G&M Therin-Weise / Getty Images Armenia 1. Azerbaijan 2. Belarus 3. Estonia 4. Georgia 5. Kazakhstan 6. Kyrgyzstan 7. Latvia 8. Lithuania 9. Moldova 10. Russia 11. Tajikistan 12. Turkmenistan 13. Ukraine 14. Uzbekistan 15. June 25, 1991: Croatia and Slovenia September 8, 1991: Macedonia (officially The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia) declared independence on this date, but wasn't recognized by the United Nations until 1993 and the United States and Russia in February of 1994. February 29, 1992: Bosnia and Herzegovina April 17, 1992: Serbia and Montenegro, also known as the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. See below for separate Serbia and Montenegro entries. March 21, 1990: Namibia became independent of South Africa. Previously, Namibia was known as South West Africa when it was a German territory. May 22, 1990: North and South Yemen merged to form a unified Yemen. October 3, 1990: East Germany and West Germany merged to form a unified Germany after the fall of the Iron Curtain. September 17, 1991: The Marshall Islands was part of the Trust Territory of Pacific Islands (administered by the United States) and gained independence as a former colony. On this date, Micronesia, previously known as the Caroline Islands, also became independent from the United States. January 1, 1993: The Czech Republic and Slovakia became independent nations when Czechoslovakia dissolved. May 25, 1993: Eritrea was a part of Ethiopia but seceded and gained independence. October 1, 1994: Palau was part of the Trust Territory of Pacific Islands (administered by the United States) and gained independence as a former colony. May 20, 2002: East Timor (Timor-Leste) declared independence from Portugal in 1975 but did not become independent from Indonesia until 2002. June 3, 2006: Montenegro was part of Serbia and Montenegro (also known as Yugoslavia) but gained independence after a referendum. Two days later, Serbia became its own entity after Montenegro split. February 17, 2008: Kosovo unilaterally declared independence from Serbia. The representatives of the Kosovo people unanimously agreed the country would be independent of Serbia despite eleven of the Serbia minority boycotting this. July 9, 2011: South Sudan peacefully seceded from Sudan following a January 2011 referendum. Sudan itself was the first to recognize South Sudan and did so one day early. |

rainylad:They have to use it to console themselves nah, even when they all know a lot of countries that have seceded and still be far ahead of the country they broke away from. If they they didn't use south Sudan as example, then know that their process of unity begging is not yet complete 1 Like |

.."i am not in support of any clamour for secession because there's strength in our diversity..." OP This is not the case in Nigeria. Here diversity is our greatest problem. If Igbos develop anything due to their creative nature. The federal government will make an Hausa/Fulani, the CEO of the enterprise. Within few months the enterprise becomes another failed project. We are better divided like those small countries who are wealthier than Nigeria with their small population. |

Excellent post op, but i disagree with you when you said diversity is our strength. No it is not our strength, but our weakness. Diversity is the only reason nigeria will not work |

Guestlander: Can't you see the coward in you speaking? Ain't you ashamed? Hausas don't want war, they want a peaceful resolution. Igbos want a peaceful referedum. Wetin concern the cowards of Nigeria? Why are they beating war drums? Tufiakwa |

dlondonbadboy: Where is the stupid referendum coming from? Are you now scared of making Nigeria worse than Somalia? Is it now dawning on you that all the threats of violence by ipob is nothing but hot air? If you are not cowards you will start another war right now and get your freedom because no one will give it to you on a platter. |

KEVIND:op! don't be mischievous! here is why! all the seceded country is a failure of human to the humanity, its not a glory to be proud of, it's a total failure, "self determination is a selfish determination" right to aid the wicked soul in human being, it's not different of right of gay for adoption, gay didn't want children it not rightful to adoption in common sense! So if self determination is human no need for community we call for individualism and isolation! And it's the causes of revolt and war anywhere in the world. Also in common sense why Islamic state self determination is not allow? Then , No single country dissolved attained the great height of of parent country! second, No seceded country without agony of war and long time war ranging from 10 years or above! No single new independent free from agitation for unstoppable self determination! why feeding people with cooked lie! oladeebo |
