BuariCopyPaste:1. NCNC was the only political party in Nigeria prior to 1946. It was lead by Macaulay. Its members became the first set of political elites in Nigeria, firmly in control of the political space. 2. 1946 Richard constitution broke the southern Nigeria into east and west, same year Macaulay died and Zik assumed leadership of ncnc. Zik inherited the party structure left behind by Macaulay, thereby massive support from the ncnc yoruba elites. The new constitution had granted more political powers to the regions 3. There after, Egbe Omo oduduwa was transformed to a political party AG, Awo assuming leadership, but the political elite, most of whom were in ncnc never gave him a chance. 4. Awo worked assiduously to gain popularity amongst the Yoruba masses, but the elite thought he was joking, particularly as he was not from the core Yoruba tribe. 5. Awo realising the elite factor working against him decided to empower some youth politically against the power that be. The game became brutal. That was the genesis of the death of Bode Thomas and the deposition of Alaafin Adeyemi(father of the present Alaafin). 6. Now the constitution tried to address the status of Lagos, and the Yoruba insisted that Lagos should remain part of west, in fact, it must be represented in the western house. So Zik was representing one of the Lagos constituencies in western house. 7. Now, the ncnc elite of the western extraction were loosing out as they could not match the popularity of Awo, so the only option for the ncnc was to support Zik who was the only popular figure to challenge Awo for the premiership. 8. In fact, some Yoruba traditional rulers supported Zik against Awo, and some ncnc members decamped to AG. Some aggrieved AG members left the party. A lot of intrigues, but in the long run, Awo emerged. 9. So, was it wrong for Awo to have garnered more support from his people than Zik? Why did Zik not chose to be opposition leader in the Western house? 13 Likes 3 Shares |

RonJeremy: Who are truly the slaves to the north.. Yoruba or Igbo?. Now think well with your brain and don't respond with your programmed Biafran brain .. Yorubas the slaves never keep on crying daily that they are marginalized in their own country. yoruba's are living large , we have a president that ruled for 8years from 1999 till date . We have a sitting Vice President also . Name any Pres/VP Igbos produced and still you will keep on shouting Yorubas are slaves . I sometimes don't know the difference between the educated illiterate igbo's and the Illiterate almajiris.. Think and think and see who the real slave are. Keep crying for your Biafra like we care in the southwest. The reason for the hatred of the Yorubas by the Igbos is because we don't support them and they know that if the Yorubas decide to make Nigeria break today it will be a reality because we have the diplomatic approach and we are morally sound. 19 Likes 1 Share |

...it's a bloody lie. Forget the rhetorics, ppl talkin lik this are old flames who are part of the confusionists. Nigeria's problems started with brutal abortion of the republic of 1966. ...those culprits shifted the citizens' focus from being unanimously objective abt national issues to being divisively sentimental with tribe and religion, so tht they bcom life rulers to keep siphoning the nation's wealth to themselves and cronies perpetually without doing anything to grow the nation economically or socially . They are always on escapism habits of travelin to USA,Dubai,UK. E.g we hav heard words lik life president, no limit for senator seat, ex presidents immunity fr prosecutions of failed projects under their govt.same still persist everywhere even from 1999 govts till date . These culprits are there, their children are succeeding them and the ignorant poor masses gets poorer chasing non-issues lik Igbos, succession, miltancy etc. the Solution is money. Nigeria political office holders should not be richer than the nation, it is an aberration. There should be a cardinal law to collapse all manner of pays from presidency to national assembly and state assembly members to pay them using civil servant salary scale. This will refocus the citizens mindset on objectivity to build this nation's pool of revenue to establish steady power, education, technology, security and justice system, so tht everyone can benefit, quash the oppression and manipulations of the common men who die for nothing. 1 Like |

But Nigeria's real problem is that it's citizens are corrupt or that almost all of us are corrupt, so that there is no justice, righteousness, truth or mercy in the land. And if we are corrupt then forget about progress and prosperity but braise up for more pains, for we are wicked and our wickedness in Nigeria is great. Or if more of uq are corrupt then no good thing can come to us or from us. So unless we turn from our wicked ways to the good are right ways before God can help us and before we can move forward. The worse thing for us is that we don't know the cause of our problems and who are the cause because we are wicked, and because we don't want to turn from our wicked ways, and we quickly point to wrong things and wrong people as the causes of our problems. But we are the causes of our own problems because we are wickedly corrupt. We are bunch of fools who listen to fools, vote for fools, protect thieves who looted all your wealth and threw us into poverty. We are very corrupt and even protect corrupt people and corruption. |

The first person to introduce tribalism into Nigerian politics is Nnamdi Azikiwe during the race for the NYM seat between Samuel Akinsanya and Ernest Ikoli. Awolowo supported Ikoli(an Ijaw) against Akinsanya(a Yoruba like him.) How do you call this type of person a tribalist? It's also worthy to note that this incident predates the crosscarpeting in the Western Region this man is refering to. I found this online. "Ernest Ikoli founded the Nigerian Youth Movement (NYM) with other prominent Nigerians like Hezekiah Oladipo Davies, James Churchill Vaughan and Oba Samuel Akinsanya (aka General Saki). The movement originally started as the Lagos Youth Movement; which was partly formed to voice concerns about the lackluster colonial higher education policy of the day. The movement was largely Lagos based but as varied members entered the organization, it metamorphosed to become the Nigerian Youth Movement; a political action group with a nationalistic flavor and outlook. Nnamdi Azikiwe, an important political personality joined the group in 1936 and brought in a large followership. In 1941, when Sir Kofo Abayomi, a Lagos leader of the movement, resigned his position at the legislative council, an election was held among NYM members to select a candidate to contest the seat. In the primary election, Samuel Akinsanya collated the most votes, second was Ernest Ikoli, but with the support of H.O Davis, Awolowo, Samuel Ladoke Akintola(Awo’s future nemesis) and a few others, the central committee of the organization which had the right to review the results presented Ernest Ikoli, who was the President of the movement at the time as the movement’s candidate. Though, Oba Akinsanya, who was Vice-President of the of the N.Y.M and Secretary of the Nigerian Motor Transport Union, immediately congratulated Mr Ikoli, he later reneged, alleging tribal discrimination against him and contested but lost the seat as an independent candidate with the support of his primary backer, Nnamdi Azikiwe. Azikiwe and Akinsanya alleged that the latter was rejected and replaced by Ikoli only because the preponderant group of Lagos Yorubas, at the time, would not allow the nomination of an Ijebu man. But this cannot be true; giving that Ikoli was an Ijaw (Izon) man, not an Omo Eko (Lagos Yoruba man). Besides, his candidature was overwhelmingly supported by another prominent Ijebu Yoruba man, Obafemi Awolowo, . https://godssonism./2012/10/29/ernest-ikoli-a-neglected-and-forgotten-hero/?_e_pi_=7%2CPAGE_ID10%2C4788661291 ** Personally, what I find amusing is that upon returning to the Eastern region,Nnamdi Azikiwe was quick to mete out the same tribalistic treatment he received in the West to Ita Eyo. Being a nationalist who believed in one Nigeria,he should have enjoyed the ride while a non-Igbo helmed the affairs of the Eastern region. That wasn't the case.Eyo Ita got booted out! So why is no one accusing him of tribalism as well? 21 Likes 4 Shares |

Unongu said nothing but the truth,Awo was a tribalist and regionalist unlike Zik who was the definition of a true nationalist but unfortunately for him the northerners had an imperial agenda and as such with the help of the British, they hijacked the system and manipulated it in their favour paving way for the monopoly of power and resources which are not rightfully theirs, what we have today is a unitary system in form of federalism which is the best form of government for a heterogeneous people like us,an all inclusive and fiscal one at that. |

Marcelo290: Before you start hyperventilating next time, learn to comprehend issues above your level of intellect. What is tribalistic about Awo asking Zik to go back to his homeland to rule? Have you called out Zik's wickedness in preventing Eyo Ita, a non-ibo esterner from being premier of eastern region? If you and Paul Unongo call it tribalism, it's your cup of garri. I endorse it fully!! Zik was the ultimate tribalist and it started a long time before 1959.
