The competition would be divided into 3 stages

In the first stage, the writer is to write a story of 2000 words, original and never before published on any platform.

The second stage, the writer is to write a story of 1000 words, also original and never before published on any platform.

The third stage, the writer is to write a story of 250 words. Original and never before published on any platform.

At the first stage, the writers would be given a topic to write on. However, it's up to them to use their creativity to write on their given topic.

The second and third stages however, the writer is given room to write on whatever they wish to write on. They are to write on their own ideas.

Honestly, 5k is way too small. I appreciate your effort but if you are going to make it 5k, then don't put more than one stage and bring down the word count to 500 Max. How would you expect someone to pass through three stages (including the 2000-word stage) only to take home 1000 naira for ending up as second runner up.

My suggestions are that:

1. You raise the prize money

or

2. You leave the prize money and reduce the stages to one and the word count to below 500

or

3. You leave everything as they are and add promotional deals for the winners.

Welcome to STARS 2017 NAIRALAND LITERATURE WRITING COMPETITION

This competition is open to everyone and anyone so far you can write stories.

The truth is the bigger the cash,the more prolific writers that will partake. Some good writers will not be interested because they feel the prize is not worth their efforts.

Nice gesture kinwayne. Regardless of how small the prize is, it is something we haven't seen in years in the literature section. The last we had something like this was with Princesa 5k a month for a writer.

If only writing fare like this one is organized annually like the Mr/Mrs Nairaland contest to encouraged talented writers who go lengths to entertain a good percentage of NLers for free.

This should serve as a wake up call to seun.
