MRBrownJ: Can you give an idea on the cost of real estates there? I mean the price range of renting an average apartment there, where to get cheap rents? and other cost of living. |

ugsams: this is Brasil we are talking about here, not some small tiny land... decide which city you wanna move to (different city/neighborhood, different prices), do your own homework via Google etc, and you will get ALL the info you require. 4 Likes |

MRBrownJ: I'll appreciate if you can give a first hand information on any of these big cities, Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo and most preferably Salvador. I know i can look up prices of rent and other things on the internet but I just needed a first hand experience while I continue on my research. Thanks and I'll be grateful to learn from your experience. 3 Likes 1 Share |

ugsams: how can i give anyone 1st hand info, when i have no idea who you are (emotionally/physically/financially) as a person?! thats stoopid as we certainly wont live the same lives. dont ever think you can/should compare your life with that of others. i could tell you that you can live on 5$ OR 100$ a day here, and i wouldnt be wrong. never take another man's struggle/success as your own, and instead prepare yourself PROPERLY before deciding to go anywhere... but here is a simple clue: if you aint got money to pay for 6months rent/feed/outing, before coming here, then i suggest you dont come to Brasil. remember, you can live in Rio/São Paulo OR you can live in Salvador (2 different type of cities entirely); you can live in a favela OR a posh neighborhood; you can live close to the main city spots OR you can live hrs from there; you can be here legally OR illegally; you can easily get a job OR you can NEVER get a job; you can easily speak Portuguese and integrate, make friends in Brasil OR you are too dumb to learn a foreign language; you can eat rice and feijão everyday OR you can do buffets/restaurants every days; you can get a car/moto OR you can waste time in public transport; you can go straight home after work OR you can hang out and enjoy evenings during the week; you can have a miserable life doing absolutely nothing but save every centavos you get OR you can have expensive hobbies. the choice is all yours, live YOUR life! it all depends on who you are as a person, how/why you wanna come to Brasil, what you intend to do here, how you intend to achieve that etc. too many foolish Nigerians are tricked into doing some crime BS because they travel to a place hoping they will achieve the same success as others, while the failures of ignorant/unprepared brothas here are PLENTY! 14 Likes |

take the following as the important questions you should have answered before you expect anyone to give you any information about life in Brasil: - who you are as a person, - how/why you wanna come to Brasil, - what you intend to do here, - how you intend to achieve that - you can live in Rio/São Paulo OR you can live in Salvador (2 different type of cities entirely); - you can live in a favela OR a posh neighborhood; - you can live close to the main city spots OR you can live hrs from there; - you can be here legally OR illegally; - you can easily get a job OR you can NEVER get a job; - you can easily speak Portuguese and integrate, make friends in Brasil OR you are too dumb to learn a foreign language; - you can eat rice and feijão everyday OR you can do buffets/restaurants every days; - you can get a car/moto OR you can waste time in public transport; - you can go straight home after work OR you can hang out and enjoy evenings during the week; - you can have a miserable life doing absolutely nothing but save every centavos you get OR you can have expensive hobbies. you answer will give me an idea of what 1st hand life you expect me to tell you about 1 Like |

MRBrownJ: My last post already answered the following questions "who you are as a person, - how/why you wanna come to Brasil, - what you intend to do here, - how you intend to achieve that - you can be here legally OR illegally; " - you can easily get a job OR you can NEVER get a job" - you can go straight home after work OR you can hang out and enjoy evenings during the week; " I was hoping that a first hand information will guide me on answering the remaining questions because I have no idea on the cost of living in Favela, posh neighbourhood, main city spots or far from it in Brazil. I don't know the advantages or disadvantages of life in Rio/Sao Paulo when compared to Salvador but I will prefer Salvador based on the general knowledge I have of the place. I also know nothing about social life and what it costs. Yes, i can eat rice often and i don't know what a feijão tastes like. Comparing the cost/plan of renting/buying a car/moto to the means and cost of public transportation will guide me on which to pay more attention on. Cost will be the major factor in most of my decision as my initial plan is to work elsewhere and live in Brazil. I know you don't want to answer my questions, hence, you're being cocky with your replies. You don't owe me any answer. However, I'll leave my questions here and will continue to respond to any of your further questions whether rhetoric or sarcastic in nature. I hope that someday someone who is willing to share from his experience will answer the questions to my benefit and that of many others. Cheers 24 Likes |

ugsams: how did your last post answer any of the above questions? i still dont know who you are as a person, your financial abilities/budget, what your means of staying in Brasil will be; nor HOW you want to come here; even less what exactly you want to physically do here (apart from aiming for a citizenship); or the type of lifestyle you seek to have here... i dont have a crystal ball. I was hoping that a first hand information will guide me on answering the remaining questions because I have no idea on the cost of living in Favela, posh neighbourhood, main city spots or far from it in Brazil. I don't know the advantages or disadvantages of life in Rio/Sao Paulo when compared to Salvador but I will prefer Salvador based on the general knowledge I have of the place. I also know nothing about social life and what it costs. Yes, i can eat rice often and i don't know what a feijão tastes like. and if you'd done your homework, instead of simply focussing on the "citizenship", then you would have had an idea, as such infos are freely available on the internet. you wanna tell me you are planning on bringing your wife/family and having a child in Brasil, yet have absolutely no clue what the cost of living is over here? Cost will be the major factor in most of my decision as my initial plan is to work elsewhere and live in Brazil. again, i have no idea WHO you are and/or what you seek when coming here (apart from a citizenship). if you had at least done some research, you would have known that A) Rio and SP are the 2 most expensive cities in South America to live in, and B) Rio and SP are two different cities entirely... SP is the business hub, a city that never sleeps, intense, saturated, no beach anywhere near the city, EXPENSIVE, while Rio is the chic city, tourist hub with its 100s of beaches, havaiana state of mind, more laid back, and MORE EXPENSIVE.... yet here you are expecting me to give you an exposé on ALL the different possibilities there are to live in Brasil (since i dont bloody know what you seek). I hope that someday someone who is willing to share from his experience will answer the questions to my benefit and that of many others. Cheers there is a huge difference between someone willing to share their experience compared to you asking silly questions... here you are asking for the cost of real estate in Brasil, not knowing that such question has 100s of answers, and therefore, instead of expecting me to do your job, you probably should have an idea (beforehand) on where you wanna go, your aim here, what lifestyle you seek etc finally, you said you would prefer living in Salvador, while i would never dream of living there, even if they paid me. but thats just me, and many are happy living in Salvador, but sadly it just aint my type of city (nor is SP)... but i dont want you to base your choices on what i regard as the best place to live in Brasil because we dont have the same lives/desires/aim/requirements, and therefore you need to discover it all, and THEN make up your own mind. whats the point of coming across the world for such a great adventure, and simply following/copying what others are doing? make your own LIFE path!!!! anywhere in Brasil, you can rent a place from €50 to +€5K monthly, depending on where/how close/how nice/how big/how safe/how funky etc 1 Like |

ugsams: sorry if my answer may have offended you, that was not the intention, i am just trying to show you a different perspective instead of the usual dead end narrow minded answers we see on NL. if i'd tell you that life is easy and a walk in the park here in Brasil (it could well be for me and sadly, the opposite for you) then thats what you gonna use to prepare yourself before coming to Brasil, as we can clearly see that you havent remotely done any research on the issue. my point is for you to BE open minded, HAVE a plan but come PREPARED mentally and physically, LEARN the language, MIX with the local, TRAVEL the country... and only then DECIDE where you want to stay in Brasil. going somewhere just because its cheap to live and "possibly" great for me (MBJ) and my lifestyle/desires, its stoopid (excuse my French). as a great man once said:"your time/Life is limited, dont waste it trying to live someone else's lives" 5 Likes 1 Share |

Mr brownJ . I need you to help me clarify something. I intend to study in Brazil MSc and subsequently PhD, and of course the language of tuition is Portuguese and one need proove his knowledge of the language before getting the visa at the embassy except hes going for a Portuguese language programme. I have checked online the possibility of learning poeruguese at different universities. But I realised it is not so easy to successfully apply for these language courses without been in Brazil physical except hes been helped by a friend or someone already in Brazil. I visited Angola last year and tho I don't speak Portuguese yet but it's not so difficult for me to learn cos I speak French fluenty and have beginners knowledge of Spanish. I will like to know if you know of any accredited univeristy or institute that offers portuguese language courses which i can apply to and be issued enrolment letter . 1 Like |

Shallypop: Most definitely... Any emergency, you can just walk in any public hospital and you will be treated (no questions asked) For pre natal care, best go to a private hospital. Stay away from Rio as the state is going through one of its worst corruption scandal to date and the city of Rio is broke and can't pay it's workers, (April salary was just finally paid last week) thus many hospitals are on strike or closed due to lack of workers/meds. 1 Like |

MrBrownJay1:Thank u so much 4 dis info. I was considering Rio. Is there any other thing I need to know. I don't want to take wrong step considering my condition. |
Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by MrBrownJay1(m): 2:08pm On Jun 29, 2017 |
Shallypop: You need to research fully where you will stay...Rio and São Paulo are the most expensive city to live in South America, and it would be easier to stay in a smaller city, if coming just for the birth. If you decide to stay in Rio, you should search for place to stay in either Zona sul or Barra. Lastly, wherever you stay in Rio, you are never too far from a favela, and although some are ok to live in, others ain't, so make sure to confirm that the area where you are staying in isn't a favela. although it is a fantastic city, sadly there is a recession here too, as many public workers haven't received their salaries, so crime is on the rise 3 Likes |

Hi all, I am new to this forum, but I saw that people were asking about giving birth in Brazil, and I thought I would post my thoughts. I know everyone thinks of Brazil and they automatically think of Rio and Sao Paulo, because these are the most famous cities in the country. However, if you want to travel to Brazil to give birth, I would personally recommend Florianópolis. It is the safest city in the country, it is a capital city in the south of the country with excellent hospitals and healthcare - even the public hospital is excellent (although it doesn't give pain relief for natural births). There is also a home birth option too which is cheaper than going to a private hospital... 11 Likes 5 Shares |

I'm new on this thread but I currently live in Sao Paulo and I must confess that it's the most expensive city I've lived in all my life. If you're coming for the birth and don't have family or someone to live with here it's difficult. I'll advise you go to florianapolis as it's cheaper and healthcare is better over there. 13 Likes 1 Share |

papiloski: Florianopolis is the place where Rich Brazilians go during the summer, it Aint that cheap..... If you are seeking cheap places in Brazil, go to the Nordeste (anywhere from Salvador and above). It is well known that Sao Paulo and Rio are THE most expensive cities in South America. 5 Likes 2 Shares |

Hello guys. Are you still interested in giving birth in Brazil? Well i have done it and i can tell you that it is the best decision i have ever taken. It is time we start thinking a little bit unconventional. If i were to do it again, i will choose it over US or Canada 100%. Let me know your questions and i will try and answer as best as i can. 21 Likes |

Adjo10:congratulations ,do u mind sharing with us how it all ?and are you gonna be staying in brazil permanently?thanks |
Re: Giving Birth In Brazil by Adjo10: 11:02am On Feb 26, 2019 |
Thanks. Yes we are going to stay here permanently. In theory, it is very simple (though you will need a few paperwork along the way). Come to Brazil on any visa (most likely tourist visa). Public hospitals are totally free and anyone who finds him or herself in Brazil can attend public hospital for free. It is the law so do not worry. Find a hospital and attend your pre or postnatal care. Ones you give birth, your baby is automatically a Brazilian citizen no matter parents nationality, race, immigration or criminal status or background. According to Brazilian law, parents of a Brazilian child cannot be expelled from Brazil no matter his or her immigration status in the country. So don’t worry even if your visa expires. You get a 90 day visa and can be extended for another 90 days in Brazil. Based on this law, parents of a Brazilian childare automatically entitled to permanent resident which is given to you on the spot after you apply at the police station. It allows you to live, work or run your own business. Whatever you choose to do. With the permanent visa you are not allowed to live outside Brazil for more than 2 years at a time. I have lived in the US and can tell you for sure that Brazil is a beautiful country with super nice people. The salaries may not be as high as the US but certainly much better than most African and Eastern European countries. And in terms of infustucture Brazil beats most European countries. And if you are a business minded person then Brazil is for you. The population is 240 million. Please keep in mind that you will need some paperwork for your permanent application. You, your partner and all previous children you have qualify for it and get it on the spot. After just one year of living in Brazil and speaking some Portuguese, you and the rest of your family qualify for a Brazilian Passport. Brazilian Passport currently takes you to 161 visa free countries, 171 visa free, visa on arrival. Brazilians do not need visa to stay in all of Europe for 3 months and UK for 6 months in a year. 31 Likes 7 Shares |
