Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe
Kachukwu has said that Nigeria remain the only oil
producing country that is still struggling with the
importation of refined petroleum products,
describing the situation as a complete
embarrassment. The Minister said Nigeria was the only member country of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) still grappling with the importation of refined petroleum products. Kachukwu who spoke at the 5th Triennial National Delegates Conference of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) in Abuja also said it was a shame that despite its huge resources, Nigeria has continued to grapple with epileptic power supply. He said Nigeria should be able to produce enough petroleum products to meet domestic needs, pointing out that changing times in the industry suggest that Nigeria must look for ways of ensuring efficient management of the refineries and make them productive or lose them and the job opportunities it offers. thenationonlineng.net/shame-still-importing-petroleum-products-kachukwu/ CC LALASTICLALA CC MYND44 |

So many failures in apc government. Its like every single minister has failed this country. I just can't point to one minister doing okay. Just look at this buffoon, 2 years down the line, he still telling us what nigeria must and not what he has done. |

mars123:and how is he trying or what is he gonna do? If two years down the line, non of our refinery still works? If dangote is not building his own refinery, what hope do we have? |

Kachikwu promised to end importation of petrol by 2019 or he would resign. Bringing in the private sector and the modular refineries, especially with the likes of DANGOTE REFINERY could put an end to it sooner. 1 Like |

EvilMetahuman:fact is; years of irresponsibility have made our refineries scrap. The only solution Diezani deemed fit was to burden us with subsidy. But you have to give him credit for turning NNPC around, for getting lawmakers to pass a section of the PIB, in general we can see how devoted the man is to refining our own product and stopping importation. he even gave a deadline insisting he will stepdown if he doesn't meet his target live on international tv. My opinion is that he is truly among a very few with no integrity issues as far as Buhari's ministerial jobs is concerned. 3 Likes 1 Share |

mars123:years of irresponsibly also gave us those refineries. Fuel importation didn't start with dezeani. Not that I'm defending them though. Dezeani is a failure and a corrupt thief but kachikwu has done any better. and what has changed in nnpc really? It is still the home of corruption. I really want to know.. Everyone knows by 2018, dangote refinery will start refining fuel. And by 2019 upward, he will be supplying enough fuel for the whole country and beyond. If anything happens to dangotes refinery and it couldn't go ahead as scheduled, what back up plan do we have? What happened to our own refineries? Why are they not working 2years after? Or the one that knows how to act like he is doing something the most but in actual sense, he isn't doing anything. 1 Like |

EvilMetahuman:what has changed in NNPC? You know he is no longer the NNPC GMD, but even before he left the post he was able to restructure NNPC into several units. You remember the protest that followed? He didn't deter and for the first time in almost three decades, NNPC made profit of about 300million when the financial report for may 2016 was released a day before he left office. The man spent just 11 months as GMD o. If I start saying all he's done as minister, there won't be space but beyond all reasonable doubt, he is very competent. |

mars123:and where is that 300million? What was it used for? I still want to know that significant thing he has achieved that we could all feel. Just name one |

Re: It’s A Shame We Are Still Importing Petroleum Products – Kachukwu by EvilMetahuman: 12:13pm On Jun 29, 2017 |
Ehiscotch:what are these policies? Name some of them? major thing nigerians will feel from oil sector is buying petroleum products at very cheap price since we produce crude oil here. To achieve that, we need a functioning refinery. 2 years down the line, the 3 refineries we have, non is working. They are not building more. Heck they are not even selling the refineries. He is just waiting for dangote to come and completely monopolise that sector like cement. He is just a failure like bunch of buahri's minister. |
Re: It’s A Shame We Are Still Importing Petroleum Products – Kachukwu by Ehiscotch(m): 12:16pm On Jun 29, 2017 |
EvilMetahuman: Monopoly is not as bad as you see it. Dangote is not the only person licensed to build one also. |

Yet you and your younger brother Dumebi are currently importing refined products into the country ..these people don't fear God |

EvilMetahuman:Would you rather the government spend money on the repairs of obsolete equipments in our refineries or that they allow the private sector come in to boost their refining capacity & create more wealth? |
Re: It’s A Shame We Are Still Importing Petroleum Products – Kachukwu by Ehiscotch(m): 12:32pm On Jun 29, 2017 |
SaulRazor:Don't cloud your judgement with hate and sentiments and hate. He is only admitting the fact that we are importing but we don't have a choice for now. Until modular refineries begin their operations. |

dudebuck:Dangote is building one of the biggest refineries in Africa. Do you know how much that would save us in foreign exchange? How many jobs are created, would be created and has been created? The effect it would have on our GDP? On the economy? On power generation? Try to know more about any issue before commenting. |
Re: It’s A Shame We Are Still Importing Petroleum Products – Kachukwu by EvilMetahuman: 12:42pm On Jun 29, 2017 |
Ehiscotch:Yes nothing. But doesn't change the fact that monopoly is bad. Ehiscotch:stop twisting arguement and focus. No one said they should stop dangote from refining. I asked what government is doing with our own refinery. Dangote's refinery belongs to dangote, nigeria's refinery belong to nigerians. |

EvilMetahuman:What do you suggest they do? |
Re: It’s A Shame We Are Still Importing Petroleum Products – Kachukwu by EvilMetahuman: 12:58pm On Jun 29, 2017 |
Ehiscotch:fire kachikwu and some of buhari's ministers. Especially: -Cbn governor. -Ministry of communication; that bearded ediot handling that ministry has to go. -Ministry of finance. -Agriculture. -sport -labour and productivity. -ministry of foreign affairs. Those ministers are just redundant Fix our damn refineries so dangote won't be the only one giving us petrol in 2019. |

Imagine if Nigeria is been restructured today, about 2/3 of nairalanders account will remain dormant, cos their state govement wont b able to pay salaries and as such will retrench most workers, and they won't be able to buy data, or most of them who ran business in that state will abandon their businesses and such there will b no money to purchase data. And most of this tribalism will stop. And seun will become poor. |
