Sanchez01:

Oniovo, I'd be Frank with you, most states might not survive restructuring, contrary to the opinion of many. Ebonyi, though a state that prides itself in agriculture, would find it difficult to survive under a restructured Nigeria. The same goes for Enugu as coal won't be enough.

I would no doubt prefer a restructured Nigeria but the truth is that most states are not really ready. Some Northern states might not be able to survive on their own as well.
Oniovo you're saying this based on what we have now since most states have not tapped into their potential for wealth creation. Even the Niger Delta is not really doing anything apart from oil. How much fish do we produce? In our own Delta State for example, how much have we maximized our water resources? There are a lot more.
Ebonyi not only has agriculture, it also has good minerals that can be explored. A very good example is limestone.

Again, restructuring Nigeria will not be an automatic death sentence for the less economically viable states because the terms, I believe, will be flexible and will allow for a gradual and progressive return to self sustainance for the federating units.

Also, many people are arguing for a regionally integrating system(State-Regional-Federal tiers) and this makes some good sense since some states may not be economically viable.

But if we're sticking strictly with the state system, some will have to merge. For example, Ebonyi can merge with Enugu.

Restructuring is about all facets of our national life and not just about the economic and fiscal structure which many who oppose it will want to limit it to for their convenience.

The 1999 constitution just has to be abandoned and replaced with a better one, a true constitution by the people, if we want to progress or this country will progressively derail until we can no longer save it. Something just has to give.

Wẹ kobiruo, oniọvo mẹ.

I just hate this slave mentality of most of us, Nigeria was never better under the British. At independence in 1960, how many megawatts of electricity was been generated for a population of over 55m? how many motorable road do we have? how many universities do we have? what was Nigeria per capital income in 1960? At independent Nigerians inherit a deeply divided nation built on divide and rule system with no strong institutions.

Maybe you should start by comparing standard of living then and now, that should answer all your questions.

Harsh but that's the truth.

Sometimes, I look at happenings in this country and feel deflated. I've stopped heaping all the blame on our leaders and have told myself the truth that the leaders cone from the stock of society.

We curse the police everyday on this forum and in the physical world but, which are those that go to apply for police work? Mostly people who have given up on life, people who feel they have nowhere else to go. I remember my mom pleading with me not to join the NPF, and I wanted to do so to make a difference. For where?

The maxim, "evil thrives when good people do nothing", is continually manifested in our daily life in this country. The so-called "good people" have left politics for unscrupulous ones, and we have the temerity room hope God does something for us. No. He won't. He already gave us whatever abilities we possess to steer our situation towards whatever direction we think is best.

I'll leave you with a quote by Plato, "those who think of themselves too highly join politics will be punished by being led by those who have no conscience".

I am not saying u don't need others to become great but first off, do what seems right. Nigeria today, with all the investor ain't notin to write about.. From the examples above, you would agree the Japanese neva neglected technology in the process of building a nation completely destroyed by war.

Nigeria has shown no will to replicate the Japanese. Today where are we? Ordinary toothpick u have to import one. is that the way to go and become an economic giant?

Let's make one thing clear. U will neva reach the promised land without showing massive interests in science and technology. That is where every visible human progress lies.

I challenge anybody to hand over Ebonyi state to the likes of America or Germany and see what becomes of it in 20 years ahead. But with Governor Umahi and his ilks, Ebonyi state will rely on federal allocation in 200 years to come judging by his mindset.
I think you are missing the point. Most Asian countries have been way ahead during the reign of Emperors and these countries were advanced before the wars. They didn't just start after the war.

Denmark prides herself in milk and pastry production and is one of the largest food force in the world. France boasts of her wineries and cuisines and remains the dream of food lovers all over the world. Science and technology is one aspect of the human life and does not necessarily account for the all-in-all development of man. It's like saying countries without oil would struggle as there would be no easy trade. The emboldened is crassly wrong. The same Japan you drool over is present experiencing stagnation and there are reports that her economy is shrinking. This is a country with great feats in the technology world. So what then is happening? Every facet of human growth and development has its strengths just as its weaknesses.

He has nothing to fear because the country will not be restructured into states but regions in which case if ebonyi does not have anything, whatever they generate from other eastern states will be used to take care of them. I like this gov. He is looking before he leaps unlike some who prefer to be airborne before whether they will be landing on sand or broken bottles. he is right.

Even Enugu state too will lose out because there us nothing being produced in Enugu here... coal is already obsolete and no good market or industries large enough to meet up with the state needs .

truth is that more than 30 Nigerian states will suffer.

Umahi is only being truthful and real...states like Ekiti;Osun;kwara will even be worse BC at least Ebonyi has Agriculture which the aforementioned states lacked.

Dont insult...just bring up a superior argument if u have one

modified**

for those quoting me wrongly..Nigeria looks uninterested in coal esp when there is abundant gas to generate electricity.Don't you guys also know that Ebonyi has the oldest and largest cement factory in west Africa including other mineral deposit yet IGR is low

take for instance Imo state iGR (2016) is 5billion
divide 5 billion by their population which is 3.9million and you will see that IGR doesn't reflect the true thing esp when considering the population there

Lmao. This one say Ekiti doesn't have agriculture cheesy

Every State can survive but there will be economic hardship in the initial stage but States that have good leadership will reverse the ugly trend within 5-10years.
Every State should generate its electricity and States that can generate their electricity should buy from those that can or remain in darkness.
Every
State should tarr the roads within it's borders,no more Federal roads.
Every State should manage their hospitals and educational institutions. No more Federal Universities or teaching hospitals/FMC
I support restructuring 100%. Its the right

Every state in Nigeria is blessed with one resources or another. The problem here is that, our so called Leaders are Psychologically and Mentally Lazy!.. All they care and know how to do is to loot the State Treasury Dry, no ambition to empower the State Economically, Commercially, Technologically, Health wise, Financial wise, name it. We don't need Foreigners before we can grow our Economy. These people are nothing but dubious Schemers. They only point our Attention to how things wouldn't work and be-cloud our mentality with such negative ideas. We have what it takes to make it in just 5yrs. The Human Capacity is there. Arable land, we have in abundance. So what else are we lacking. The oil that generates quick revenue made them to abandon the best advantage we have, to not just make money but, create Jobs, produce abundant food, exportation et al, AGRICULTURE!. With Specialised Mechanised Farming, each States in Nigeria Can feed itself and export too. Fiscal Federalism is the key to the exit door of the Dungeon we're in. Yes, some states would struggle at the initial stage of resource control but they will eventually find their feet, with the right policy and determination. It's high time the States Fed themselves, stop Being Fed. Nigeria Is Ripe For Resource Control. This current system is the bane of our Stuntedness. Let's grow through restructuring.

They can discover new ways to stand on their own, sign agreements with other wealthy regions or with Abuja for private foreign investors.
It doesn't have to be like that of U.S outrightly.
What l'm saying is that the terms and conditions can be debated. Biafra can sign agreement with south south to use their newly developed ports for instance, while they supply other things to the south south region.
Middle Belt can sign agreements with other regions as well, the regions can even encourage more foreign investors at this stage, it's like having about 5-8 new separate countries trying to start all over. There would be city registration in each state that accounts for all data, with no region having more than 6 states and at least 3.
This system is not perfect, and there may be difficulties or set backs, but it is better than what we have now.

Kkkkkkkkkk don't make me laugh, sign agreement abi?
People that want outright secession are even afraid of fiscal federalism.
Ariwo ko ni music o, empty barrel lo ma npariwo.
Most of us who already support Biafra knows that there will be no difference between the Biafa within Nigeria or an independent Biafra.
I guess Umuahi had received a wake up call or should I said he did a reality check.

Only dumbass donkey wants the crap called restructure. The term restructure is deceitful and benign. Ndigbo and IPOB want total and absolute disintegration of Niger-Area. Any ethnic nationality can choose to become independent nation state. The days of idiotic colonialism are numbered. Any trace of colonial residues must be completely with hesitation wiped out of African continent. I simply want Republic of Igbo land or Biafra if people of cultural affinity decide to forge a nation state. Some dingbats are busy talking about imbecilic restructure of Niger-Area. What is this crappy restructure going be based. Are the deluded Nigerians going transplant certain federal entities concentrated in certain of Niger-Area or they going build Lagos or Abuja in the defunct eastern region and midwestern region respectively? The shouting of restructure shall not be the mere loudmouthed exercise that is a common place in Niger-Area. If such undertaking should be engaged, it will be brutal, swift and honest in order to reach the cure the word is intended to achieve.

Why are u awake at 3.24a.m for F sake? undecided

But I stand to be corrected, is restructuring not something of regional scope where each states in a region will harness it's resources to feed themselves?

As for secession, I oppose it but judging from the frustration, anger and hunger in the country, one may have a rethink it's better to form a nation of its own. Still the masses especially the IPOB are naive to see that their frustration should be expressed to their corrupt leaders, same for arewa and oduduwa youths instead we are fighting each other while elites merry in wealth.
