Most of the officers in the army then were Igbos. That is why it looks like an Igbo coup. But it was never an Igbo coup. Stop the cheap blackmail. The North now has most of the officers in the army, but the coups after the July 1966 coup were not called Northern coups because the North did not sit down and decide to plot coup. So why are the Igbos always attacked over January 1966 instead of the political class that through their violence and instability brought the military into politics? There are many lies that cant be discredited in Nigeria. 1.That Igbo(s) can do anything for money, are chest beaters and criminalistic-Every tribe has its own greedy people and criminals and every tribe chestbeat about one thing or the other. 2.That fulanis are born to rule 3.That yorubas are coward, hypocritical and betrayal-majority of Nigerian human right activities are yoruba.Yorubas actually stopped the fulanis from advancing to the south at Odo-otin courtesy of Ibadan worriors.Do you know why Adekunle fajuyi has to die with Agui ironsi. On betrayal, yoruba never had any convenant with anybody. 4.That the first coup is Igbo coup. 5.That the norths are babaric especially the fulanis 6.That there is one islamization Agenda somewhere. All the aboves are lies that no matter how hard you try to convince some people, they will still hold the belief may be out of bigotry. 3 Likes 2 Shares |

With Kaduna Nzeogwu killing ahmadu bello, Ifeajuna killed Tafa balewa and Nwaobosi killing SL akintola. These daredevil criminals are indeed not Igbos OP is this a part of history your Igbo lectures are too ashamed to lecture you on or what ? 16 Likes |

Liar. Y did they kill only northern and western leaders and soldiers. Why did ironsi after eliminating the regional leaders now went ahead to issue a decree for unitary government out of greed if that was not the grand plan all along. Everyone knows an average igbo man is greedy and its that greed for power that instigated the first coup. 12 Likes |

Why didn't aguiyi ironsi execute the coup plotters? Besides that, most of the soldiers that participated in the 1966 coup later fought on the side of biafra during the Civil War . Even kaduna Nzeogwu that you guys claimed was more hausa than igbo, fought for Biafra.. You guys should quit all these attempts at trying to re-write history.. 1966 coup that killed both hausa and yoruba leaders was an igbo coup.. Period 14 Likes 1 Share |

OAFMods:Most of the officers in the army then were Igbos, so any coup would look like an Igbo coup. If a country is not officially involved in an attack, even if it is citizens are, do you then accuse the country of being involved? No. So why do that in the case of Igbo ethnic group? |
Re: The January 1966 Coup Was Not An Igbo Coup- Zikistmovement.com by Nobody: 4:11am On Jun 29, 2017 |
Omofunaab2:Only Ironsi can explain that. You will have to go and wake him up and ask him. But remember he was Head of State. Maybe here were some info he had then that you dont know of. Wouldn't it have been better to institute a judicial commission of inquiry to find out why Ironsi did not do what you expected him to do? The fact remains that no matter his reasons for not punishing the coup plotters, it doesn't make the coup itself an Igbo coup. The only reason you can even use propaganda and attempt to say it was an Igbo coup was simply because most of the army officers then were Igbo's.Most of the non officers in the same period were Arewa. What do you have to say to that? 1 Like |

ALMUSTAQIM:First, let me say welcome back because I have not seen this monicker in years. Always making some useful contributions to threads (sometimes o. Lol). Now to the topic: you see the problem with those saying it is an Igbo coup? Too much propaganda and too little fact. For instance: You have just said it was a Biafran coup. Did the Biafran agitation exist in January 1966? No. It was only in 1967, after another bloody round of killings of Igbos in the North that the Biafra independence agitation started. So, we fail to see how it was a 'Biafran coup'. 4 Likes |

Omofunaab2: He did not only avoid executing the coup plotters, he had meetings with them and took directives from them. All appointments made by Aguiyi after the coup were in favor of the Ibo soldiers. IPOB/Easterners will never talk about what caused their current travails in Nigeria. Once you ask .. what caused it... na so tey insult them go give you. Listen to the flimsy excuse the moronic @igbodefender made "most soldiers where Ibo" what nonsense. Till this day and from the beginning .. Kaduna, Benue and Plateau states provide the highest number of recruits into the Nigerian Army, Navy and Airforce. 8 Likes 1 Share |

There is nothing anybody can say to change the fact it was an Igbo coup, all indices is pointing towards that. The questions are why was the Eastern region not under siege like the Northern and western region? The plan of the coup plotters was to eliminate all Political and Senior military leaders in each region. The Northern and Western leaders were eliminated except the east. This raises suspicion Why were the Igbos mocking the death of Sir Ahmadu Bello in the North?. 8 Likes 1 Share |

raumdeuter: These are some known facts about the coup that answers some of your questions: "On January 15, 1966, the army struck and turned the weapons which we issued to them to defend the country, on the government and the leaders that issued the weapons to them. In the process, they killed the Prime minister of the country; they killed the premier of the West; they killed the premier of the North. "They were about to kill the premier of the East but what saved Dr Michael Okpara was that Archbishop Macarious, the president of Cyprus, was his guest that night and probably they wouldn’t want war between Cyprus and Nigeria. "On the other hand they could not kill Chief Dennis Osadebey because there was no Army in Benin at the time of the coup and so Osadebey managed to escape. They also killed Chief Festus Okotie-Eboh, the Federal Minister of Finance. They also killed some members of their own group. For example, Brigadier Maimalari was innocently killed. My close friend, Colonel Arthur Unegbe was also killed. "I wouldn’t say I knew the intention of the boys who took over government because Ademulegun and other Yoruba officers never admitted that it was an Igbo coup. It only happened that there were more Igbo officers involved in the coup because there were so many (70%?) Igbo officers in the army at that time ( most of the rank and file were not Igbo)." -Mbazulike Amaechi source: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/01/january-15-1966-coup-why-they-called-it-an-igbo-coup-mbazulike-amechi/ |

igbodefender: So tell us if 95% of the killers were Ibos and 95% of those killed were non Ibos Tell me if there was a coup now and 90% of the coupists were Hausa and they killed 4 Ibo senators including Ekweremadu, 3 Ibo governors Okorocha, Obaino and Umahi Now they come to tell you it wasnt an ethnic cleansing You can say anything you want, the result is there for everyone to see, 4 premiers, 2 non Ibos killed, 2 Ibos spared 2 executives, 1 non Ibo prime minister killed, The Ibo president spared Top Military killed, Maimalari, Lagerma, Sodeinde, Ademulegun all killed but how many of the top Ibo military you told us dominated the army were killed? If we agree Ibo were 70% of the army then, North 20%, Yoruba 5%, Minorities 5% Of the 5% Yoruba they killed Ademulegun Daramola Oyegoke and Sodeinde, Of the 20% North they killed Maimaleri, Lagerma Pam, Kur Mohammed So tell us how many of the 70% Ibo dominated army were killed Below is the conversation between Jaja Wachukwu an Ibo minister and the coupists None Ibo were brutally killed, Ibo politicians were protected Wachuku: "What are you boys doing here?" One of the soldiers: "Good morning, Sir. But haven't you heard what is happening in the country?" Wachuku: "Yes. I know you boys have taken over the Government." Soldier: "Do not be afraid, Sir. We have come to protect you for being an honest Government Minister." https://www.thenigerianvoice.com/nvnews/117885/1/everydog-has-his-day.html 7 Likes |
