EVANS OH EVANS!!! - Biyatife Our nights have grown so blue-black dark Devoid of the tranquil inflicting priest-white moon And the sweet soulful scents of sane silence Now we hear the acrid aching anguish Of unbaritone yet hurting, ugly human-like voices Springing From the fence-Everest four yards away Like the curious cat, we felinely climbed for Everest But the barbwire-crowned summit’s ever impregnable So we fall like tortoise with no ants to lay our bricks Fence- Everest has become our street deity Dreadfully enigmatic! And even our days have grown so shiningly blur Making the sun into a round aged fool Incapable of revealing the heinous hardwork of human vultures Who magnet off both old and young from the streets And suck their loved ones of their hard-earned wealth In devilry exchange of cash and corpse Like the ancient tale of the serpent and woman Leaving her victims cursed with claustrophobia and paranoia And the never-fading scar of preyhood The world wonders why we wail so much Yet all we can say is Evans oh Evans! Evans oh Evans! The benevolently malevolent African Jack-Robinson Who makes the world into a humorous hourglass Dripping from the rich and feeding the rich-stung poor Your seeds shall ever sing your praise chants For you were to them the Jesus they could see But hey! Your vultured victims also shall see no sound sleep Till you fall into the minefield of snares and the table turns Like the times of Anini, and Oyenusi, and their cohorts Who like you do, ruled their globes with vile and terror Hello, Evans oh Evans Your protégés have grown so cold in the heart For they disregard your legacy and filch our kids Our lovely little litluns, who fear even the dark Yet they are thrown into the den of your Fence-Everest! Help us, Evans! For a child not grows deaf to his Yeye Abiamo’s call And you are the hen, and they the chicks But there you are, drinking and dancing with your preys In Agbada, Danshiki, and Suits, and the National Maze for walking sticks Did the cat and the rat suddenly become friends? Or the Hawk and the chick now put arms on each other’s shoulders? Indeed the maize’s predator lives just beneath its buttocks The cock yawns with strength, and crows the sun out of its den With great alacrity, the sun heeds the beckon call of the cock And maybe this day the sun shall regain its youth Paoo! Paoo! - Shrrrrr.... The gun’s nosy, noisy flames cough us up to wake And reach for our window pane in rat-like fashion And there we see the almighty fence-Everest on its knees In humbled submission to fate and karma all in one And our street’s Osama in cuffs and his eyes blooded The den, now becomes cage for unroyal spiders and rodent And the street now knows some peace For no longer shall we wail Evans oh Evans! |
