There were papers on the table and she was sitting on the floor, sorting them out. She didn't hear him come in. This wasn't the scenerio he was expecting to meet.
He cleared his throat and she looked up.
She was wearing large googles(she always wore them whenever she wanted to read). Her hair was parked in a messy bun and she still had her sexy nightie on.

"Morning Mike." She flashed him a smile.

He was surprised. Didn't Kelvin deliver the message? He walked past her and went up the stairs to his room. He was surprised to see a new box on the bed. He opened it and his jaw dropped. His favourite things. She must have gotten them for him while she was in Abuja. He picked one of the wristwatch and checked the prize tag; #210,000. His wife had taste.

He remembered the divorce and he closed the box. He won't take them. He dropped on the bed and closed his eyes. He had to muster courage to tell her himself.

She yawned. She had started work immediately after breakfast. She needed to have proof of whatever she said or did. She looked at the time and it was almost noon. She was glad she was through with the paper sorting.

"Ebere." She called out

The helper answered from the hallway and came running to the sitting room immediately

"You called."

"Yes. What's for lunch?"

"Pounded yam and nsala soup."

"Wow." Kelvin exclaimed, walking into the sitting room.

"Morning Kel."

"Morning ambassador. How was your night?"

"I slept well."

He pecked her forehead and she blushed.

"Good morning Sir." Ebere greeted

'Fine morning. Is the meal ready?"

"No sir."

"Hurry up then cause I'm farmished."

"You didn't come down for breakfast. Sleepy head."

They both laughed

"Ebere, get us tea and some toasts while we wait for the main course."

"Okay madam."

She walked out.

"So why haven't you showered?"

"I wanted to finish this before anything else."

He took one of the paper and scanned through.

"Are you sure about this?"

"Yes. Since we can't work things out anymore, it's better we go our separate ways and do what makes us happy without hiding."

"Including doing Phil right?"

Her face turned to different shades of pink.

"She's blushing. The ambassador is blushing."

"Stop it Kel."

"Okay. But you agree to that right?"

"The last I checked, Phil should be in Switzerland for some vacation so he's out of my list. I'll think of better things to do while we wait for the divorce procedures. There are lots of things involved."

"And you don't mind surprises huh?"

"If you surprise me with a new car."

They both laughed heartily as Ebere walked in with their snack.

He walked downstairs and found them chatting with a plate of toast and tea mug on the centre table. She had parked the papers into a file and it was resting beside her. Maybe they were papers from the orders she made or from the endorsement deal.
He greeted Kelvin and they shook hands.

"Can I have a word with you Claire?" He said.

"Of course."

She dropped her tea cup and followed him to the foot of the stairs.

"The box in my room, who has it?"

"Oh! I'm sorry I didn't inform you but I got them for you. But if you don't need them, I can have them back because there are lots of people I couldn't buy gifts for."

He nodded at her strange response.

"Since you bought them for me, I'll take it. Thank you."

"You're welcome. Anytime."

"Yea. So Kelvin gave you my message?"

"Of course. My lawyer will be here by 10 tomorrow. 10am."

"What? Your lawyer? Thought we had just a lawyer for the family?"

"Yea. Same way I thought a man should remain faithful to his wife. Excuse me, I was in the middle of a conversation."

She walked out on him and his heart did somersaults.

Claire took it and looked at Kelvin. He gave her a nod and she opened the card on it

"To a beautiful woman, to the love of my life, my heartbeat. I love you xoxo."

She passed the card to Kelvin who already knew the sender.

Another ring and Chika repeated the act but this time, it was a parcel.
Claire opened it and it was a white gown that had diamonds adorned on the neckline.

"Wow." She exclaimed, bringing out the note.

"I'll be there by 7. Don't keep this gentleman waiting." She read out.

"That must be Phil."

And that was all it took to get to his nerves. He had seen and heard enough.
Micheal stormed out of the sitting room causing Claire to chuckle.

"I thought Phil must have travelled back to, ehm, what country is that again?"

"Don't you think a little bird whispered something to him?"

Claire opened her eyes in shock and flung herself on him. She tickled him while he kept pleading for his release.

Kelvin had driven her to a hair stylist who gave her a new look and now, they were at the make over house where she had been transformed to an ice princess.

"You look extremely beautiful Claire. I'm sure Phil will eat you raw tonight."

"Oh please. You're making it look like I'm going for my first date."

"Of course. You're going on a first date with Phil."

She shook her head and looked at her wristwatch.

"Let's go now. It's almost 6."

"Is that how anxious you are?"

She hit his shoulder playfully and stood up. Kelvin dropped some money on the table and they walked out laughing like young lovers.

She had on a silver heel and a silver ball purse. She looked so beautiful he wanted to grab her and do lots of crazy things to her.

A honk blew outside and she hastened her steps.

"Wow. You look so beautiful." Kelvin commented, dropping his glass of wine and going to her.

"Thanks Kel. I can't even believe its me."

"It's worth it baby. Go out there and have fun. You deserve all the happiness in the world."

"Oh babes. Thank you so much. It's been long someone appreciated or complimented me this way. Thank you so much."

"Come on, don't cry so you won't ruin your make up. Don't keep the young man outside waiting."

She nodded, gave him a hug and catwalked out of the house.

"What was that? Kelvin, i ask agsin, what was that?" Michael asked as soon as Claire walked out of the door.

"I don't know what you're talking about." Kelvin defended.

"You support my wife to run to other men now right?'

" Your wife? Thought you just asked for a divorce yesterday? Plus, you've been seeing other women including her sister so why shouldn't she see other men?"

His question hit home and he swallowed hard.
