ElDeeVee: I was at Lagos Consulate this morning. I was slated time was 6:30am so, I had to leave home very early. I got to the Consulate around 5:45am. Security checks lasted like forever but alas, I got into the interview hall. Initially, white papers were flying left, right and center but, this changed later as blue papers were also coming out. My interview was quite short and the VO (in his late 40’s) was pleasant and nice.
Transcript below; VO: Hello, good morning Me: Good morning Sir
VO: Pass me your passport, I-20 and SEVIS payment confirmation page Me: **Passed it**
VO: What are you going to study in the US? Me: I am going for MS study in Math
VO: Why did you choose this particular school over others? Me: I am going to the school for 3 major reasons. First, the school offered me a full GTA with tuition waiver and monthly stipends. (*** VO cuts in)
VO: How did you get the assistantship? Me: The members of the committee in charge of selection for assistantship were quite impressed with my profile and previous academic and professional achievement.
VO: Which other schools did you apply to? Me: 3 other schools – UNI, BGSU and UL Lafayette (Stated all in full with their respective cities and states)
VO: Tell me about the MS program. Me: The MS program is a flexible program that focuses on key math areas like Real Analysis, Complex Analysis, Numerical Analysis, Applied Math and Operations Research.
**VO typed for some seconds and then gave me the white paper. **Me smiled and left the hall immediately.
I appreciate everyone on this thread for their wonderful tips. Special shout out to @tolutweety, @profojah1234, @texrem @oludare01, @jesusbabygirl, @libber, @toakins, @folsy, @femi321, @happyday, and everyone who has contributed to this great thread.
Tips 1. If you have funding, state it as one of your reasons for going to the school. I feel this worked for me; 2. Be bold and confident. This cannot be overemphasized; 3. Prepare, prepare and prepare - know your stuff (your course, your program structure etc); 4. Please don’t cram. Just go there and chat with the VO. The interview is nothing out of the ordinary.
Good luck, people and see you at the top.
Congrats bro..God bless your new journey. |

VISA approved this morning at Abuja Embassy of the US. I was slated for 9:00 am. Got there around 8:20am. You will have to stay at the private car parking area about 60 meters from the embassy entrance. 25 Mins later, 9:00 am appointees were called in. Windows 6,7 and 8 were at work. The moment I joined the final queue, there were about 15 people ahead of me and mehn, blue papers were all over the place! Of these people ahead of me, I saw only 2 white papers; a black man with wife and two kids and a white man who was alone. I was like God what exactly are these people looking for? One guy going to Washington DC for studies did all his questions right yet was denied by the black lady on window 7. Fast forward to my turn on windows 6 (White man, reddish eyes, late thirties, early forties): Vo Good morning and how are you Bros Good morning I’m fine (while slotting in my Passport and I20) Vo okay , took 20 secs to read the I20 and asked Why VCU? Bros VCU (in full) has a good business school and I interviewed with two doctoral faculty members who encouraged me to apply Vo Still reading I20… How did you get the assistantship? Bros My 1st degree GPA and My 2nd degree GPA were very good and my Statement of Purpose as well. Vo Typing on his system…Are you married Bros Yes Vo Kids? Bros Yes, one Vo Typed for about 20 seconds and slotted out the white papers to me and said, “this paper will show you how to pick up your visa.” Have a good day. That was it! Just about 4 questions! And people I prayed to God and said I don’t want a lengthy interview. I specifically told Him I don’t want it to last more than 1 minute and He answered! Pray very well, fast if you can (I did) and prepare using the transcripts here to develop your own answers. I compiled some Fall 2017 transcripts (up to page 331) some weeks ago. It’s down below: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dawoicv7y9cofif/COMPILED%20VISA%20TRANSCRIPT%20Part%2011%20-%20Up%20to%20Pg%20331.docx?dl=0 Thanks to Texrem and Oludare01 who reviewed my responses to the common questions! Visa approved today. I've been a silent reader on this forum, and I'm grateful for all the help I got from here. My interview was slated for 6.30am, I got there around 5:10 in the heavy rain. Around 6 the check-ins began and I was the second person on the queue. I was almost sent back outside because I didn't have a hard copy passport with me, but fortunately for me, the passport I uploaded on my DS-160 was clear enough. I was also asked for the last page of my I 20 which I left at home, thinking it wasn't important, fortunately for me again, it wasn't really needed. The first guy to be interviewed was approved and I was the next. Here goes: VO: Good morning Me: Good morning sir
VO: Tell me why you chose the University of Arkansas Me: I chose the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville because I will be working with Prof ×××× as a research assistant in his (Vo nodding, cuts in)
VO: Tell me about this program, Agricultural Economics Me: Okay. The program will run for a duration of 24 months during which I will be required to take a minimum of 31 credit unit hours of courses. Some of these courses are Agricultural Micro-Economics, Agribusiness Finance and Econometrics. (VO typing all through this)
VO: (after typing for a bit) Your visa is approved, collect it at this location Me: Thank you sir.
I prayed for a very short interview and I got it. The whole thing lasted for like 2 minutes or even less. I want to say thanks to all those that have been keeping this thread alive, it helped me a lot. Special thanks to @happyday, thanks for taking out time to help me.
For those preparing to go, all I can say is prepare well, be confident, pray, and don't forget any of your documents at home like me lol.
Thank you very much. 33 Likes 3 Shares |
