The ride was a silent one but there eyes spoke volumes of their thoughts.

He drove to a five star hotel where he already made a reservation.
A waiter in a well tailored suit guided them to their table which was in a reserved part of the restaurant.
As the gentleman he is, he helped her sit before going over to sit opposite her.


Claire had a smile plastered on her face. People were staring, they had this smile on their face as they waved at her and she did her best to wave back.
This was the life of a celebrity which she never thought she'd have.

"You are beautiful." Phil said, bringing her back to earth.

"Thanks Phil. This night hasn't started yet and I feel on top of the world already."

"Because you deserve the entire world. Pick your menu let's order something."

She nodded, picked the menu and started flipping through the pages.

"I think I'm pregnant Chika." Ebere said, coming out from the bathroom.

"Eh?" Chika sprang up from the bed while Ebere leaned on the wall

"Don't tell me you're pregnant for Mr Michael o."

"Ah. How did you know?"

"Oh! You thought you're staying with a dullard abi? I didn't want to say anything because you didn't tell me either. Have you done a test?"

"No but my system has just gone totally beserk. I can't stand the smell of food, my breast are now very sensitive. They're all symptoms of pregnancy."

"Why not tell our boss?"

"Are you mad? She'll shake my hands for sleeping with her husband abi."

"Didn't you see the fine man that she went out with? It's obvious they're going through a rough pstch so I'll advise that you tell her. The woman is the most gentle and understanding person I've met all my life."

"I know but I still can't tell her. I'll carry the child shaa and once my tummy starts to protrude, I'll leave the house."

"Better still, you can abort it."

"God forbid o. As I don't have mother and father, did I tell you I don't want a baby too? I've saved enough. Besides, my one month salary is enough to discharge me from a good hospital."

"Okay. But Gertrude is very lucky o. Me, I'm going to stay here and see if any of those big friends of Mr Michael will find me fit for a wife."

"Ode. Oloriburuku. See your life. Stay there and be dreaming. Everyone no get the same destiny o."

"I know. My own destiny is definitely not being a baby mama for my boss."

Ebere eyed her and disappeared back into the bathroom.

"Wash the basin well o after you mess it up. Ash@wo." Chika joked

He poured her a glass of champagne and stood up.

"I'll be right back."

"Okay." She replied with a smile.

Dinner had been splendid and just as they finished, the waiter had brought their wine which will keep them busy while the desert is on prep.

She felt a hand touch her shoulder and she turned around to see a very pretty lady.

"Can I sit for a minute?"

"Sure."

The lady pulled the sit beside her and sat down.

"The name is Chantel."

"Claire."

"I know."

They laughed and shook hands.

"I'm a model and I work with racemic entertainment."

"Wow. That's beautiful. Plus I'm sure I've seen this face in a movie or two."

"Not as beautiful as striking a jiji deal."

"Please."

They laughed again.

"Uhm. I don't intend to waste your time so your date won't come back here and see me. I've done a study and realised you don't have friends. It's been on my mind to visit but thank God you're here so please, I'd love to be a friend."

Claire was wowed. She could count the number of friends she had and they were all her customers, not like they had any close clique or something.

"I'm surprised but yes please."

She wiped out her card from her ball purse and handed it to Chantel.

"My phone number and house address. Will be expecting your call."

"Will do that tomorrow. Mind saying hello to my friends?" She pointed at a table that had three other girls smiling at her.
They waved when she turned to them and she waved back.

"Thanks Claire. You're a nice person."

"You're welcome."

"And I see your date walking back in so I beg to be excused?"

"Sure."

They both stood up and hugged themselves before Chantel walked back to her table and Claire sat down.

He had decided they'll start afresh, act like they've not met before. He loved her and didn't care the reason for her divorce.
He walked in and saw her hugging an actress. Such a free spirit.
He approached her table and flashed her a smile.

"Hello. Can I sit?"

"Why not?"

He lowered himself on the seat he was occupying previously.

"So what's the name pretty face?"

She smiled. She knew this game and she'll give hhim a hard time.

"What about I say I don't give my name to strangers?" She asked, sipping her wine

"Oops. My bad. I'm Phillip."

"Not my business."

He found himself laughing. She sure was sassy if he hadn't known her better.

"Okay. Let's not start on the wrong foot.Was outside with some friends and I saw you chatting with your friend, I excused myself to come talk to the woman who stole my concentration."

"So is it me or my friend?"

"I'm in front of you that only means that its you."

"Oh. Okay."

"So you haven't told me the name."

"It's Claire."

"Nice name for a beautiful woman."

"Thanks Mr flirt."

He laughed and she joined him.

"Baby, I just want us to start afresh, let's forget everything that has happened before tonight."

"Hmmm. Let's toast to a fresh start then."

He filled their glasses and they had their toast. He saw their waiter for the night bearing a tray.

"And our dessert is here."

He looked at his wrist watch again. It was past eleven. What was she doing outside with a man at that time of the night?
He tossed on the bed and sat up. He looked at his wristwatch again and just then, he heard a car honk outside and he raced downstairs.

"Don't stress yourself by driving in."

"You sure?"

She nodded.

"Tonight was fun. I enjoyed evert bit of it."

"So, we can do this again?"

"Why not?"

He smiled.

"Let me not keep you for long. Have a good night."

"You too."

He came down and helped her out of the car. He planted a kiss on her forehead and she smiled.

"I'll watch you go in."

She smiled, waved at him and walked through the gate which the gateman had opened earlier.

She responded to his greeting with a broad smile and went in, surprised to see the light on.

She walked into the sitting room and found Michael standing in the centre of it, his face, a nightmare for little children.

"Hi Mike."

"And where are you coming from by this time of the night?"

She looked at him and continued her walk to the stairs.

"I'm talking to you loose woman."

"Where's she? The loose woman? Can't find anyone else in this living room." Claire said, pretending to be searching for someone.

"And that means its you."

"Oh. Forgive me. I thought you would have upgraded my name by now but let me ask you, what right do you have to ask me that question? At least, I didn't sleep in a man's house, or worst still, your brother's house so don't call me names okay? Secondly, you shouldn't pry into my affairs anymore. Tomorrow by 10, our lawyers will be here and we'll get this farce over and done with. If you don't mind, I had a crazy night out there. Don't spoil my Afro beat with your jazz."

And with that, she started her slow ascend to the stairs while Michael stared at her in shock.

Kelvin who was upstairs smiled happily. His Claire has grown up and she deserves happiness.
