misano: 1. The FG picked Lagos state as the FC because Lagos was already developed before Nigeria as a country and independence. 2. Lagos as the FC was limited to Lagos island and the mainland was Western Region 3. Industries developed Lagos before oil and before independence. 4. The industries were and are still today on the mainland 5. The industrial estates that made Lagos state and responsible for overall Nigerian industrial capacity were build by the Western Region government led by Awolowo from Apapa industrial estate to Matori, Mushin, Ilupeju and Ikeja industrial estates and hey were all built with cocoa and rubber money, not oil money. 6. Oil money did not build the 1st skyscraper, 1st TV station, 1st stadia in Nigeria, cocoa and rubber money did. 7. The FG left Lagos decades ago and you people are still talking about a FC when in fact Lagos state have moved forward since, they've had many governors with vision, they built many many times more than the ordinary bridge, seaport or airport you people cry about all the time. 8. Fashola alone built more infrastructures in Lagos state than what the FG built in the whole of Nigeria within the same period. 9. While you and your leaders in the SE and the FDG cry and fight over 2nd NB for 30 years, Fashola built the best bridge in Nigeria aka Lekki Ikoyi bridge in less than 3 years. 10. What was the economy in Lagos like when the FG was in Lagos for just a few years compared to today? 11. Within Fashola's 8 years alone, the IGR grew from measly N500 million to N23 billion/month, double more than what many states in Nigeria generate in a year. 12. The leadership, vision and foresight in the SW before independence and after till today are the reason why Lagos state is what it is today, the good and capable leadership you don't have in the SE. Your leaders in the SE can not even collectively build common 2nd NB after 30 years of begging, but Fashola alone built many bridges while your leaders are siting on their hands, begging and crying and moaning marginalization. 13. What were your village leaders doing when Fashola lobbied Dangote to invest $15 billion refinery in Lagos? No, you were abusing, insulting Fashola and shouting corruption, but Fashola and lagosians are getting the last laugh while you keep crying, begging, abusing and insulting other people. 10 Likes 1 Share |

deomelo: 1) According to Wikipedia, the British influence (NOT TINUBU'S INFLUENCE) in Lagos began on 6 August 1861 under the threat of force by Commander Beddingfield of HMS Prometheus who was accompanied by the Acting British Consul, William McCoskry . 2) According to Wikipedia, The High Commissioner / Governor was Sir Frederick John Dealtry Lugard, between 1914–1919 and in 1948–1954 the commissioner was Sir John Stuart Macpherson (NOT AWOLOWO OR ANY OTHER YORUBA MAN) 3) According to Wikipedia, Lagos became the capital of Nigeria since its amalgamation in 1914 moved to Abuja in 1991 (HOW MANY YEARS IS THAT). 4) Wikipedia explains that Lagos was governed directly by the Federal Government from 1960 through the Lagos City Council until the creation of Lagos State in 1967. 5) And finally, according to Wikipedia, oil was first discovered in Oloibiri, Bayelsa on Sunday 15 January 1956 by Shell Darcy. So between 1960 to 1967 when the Federal Government governed Lagos, the city was enjoying Bayelsa oil money. 1 Like 1 Share |

oyatz: You just said it, you fell into my trap. As U said, oyatz: And who were the leaders? U answered it urself oyatz: The British (NOT YORUBAS) made Lagos so fine that it became the capital of Nigeria. From the moment it became the capital of modern Nigerian it started enjoying oil money. |

misano: 1960 to 1967 = 7 years. So, the FG that was confined to Lagos Island developed Lagos in less than 7 years? Did the FG also crossed into the the SW region in the mainland and established the industrial estates responsible for Lagos's strong economy and still represent Nigerians industrial strength from Apapa to matori, ilupeju, mushin and ikeja industrial estates all in less than 7 years? Did the FG also crossed into the SW starting from Lagos mainland to establish Oodua investment groups and built Airport hotel, Webaboard aka Wema Bank and so on or I'll ignore the rest of your ignorant wiki rubbish because as usual, you Igbos formulate your unintelligent rubbish from under your shoes. 3 Likes |

Its like you are impervious to reason. 1)I said no city/State develop because of a single factor and gave you interaction of factors but you keep shifting the goals, shouting oil money now, then claiming its the FG and now the British later. 2) Lagos has been a maritime city for over 500 years, this factor make it a destination for many peoples from diverse backgrounds; Portuguese, British, Germans, Americans, returned slaves, Arabs/Muslim missionaries and peoples from other African empires/kingdoms 3) Through out history, areas that are receptacles for diverse peoples often provide fertile grounds for cross fertilization of ideas, exchange of skills and articles of trade with improved civilization. 4) The peoples and leaders of Lagos made and are still making tremendous contribution to the development of the city... Whether you are willing to give them credit for it or not doesn't detract from this fact. 5) The British only settled on Lagos Island, a very small part of Lagos state... It wasn't the business or interest of the British colonialists to develop Lagos or Nigeria as a whole, colonialism was an economic venture! 6) The old federal capital was limited to only 5LGAs (Lagos Island, Lagos Mainland, Eti-Osa, Apapa and a part of Surulere) and it is not exactly the same as Lagos state. Ikeja, Mushin, Shomolu, Epe, Oshodi etc were never part of the federal capital. 7) The Federal capital has been relocated for over a quarter of a century ,yet Lagos has developed more than when it was the capital. The South south States and Kano State receive great fund from 'oil money' than Lagos. Oil money alone doesn't explain the development of any city/country. Both Brazil and Nigeria are oil producing countries but Brazil is ahead of Nigeria virtually in all aspects Get education, read about political economy and the history of Lagos with an open mind. Cheers. misano: 4 Likes |

Most people in Nigeria wrongly assume that Nigeria or various tribes of oil producing region own oil, this is not true at all. 1) The oil companies ( mostly foreign) own the oil. They went to borrowed billions of dollars from reputable financial institutions, paid for prospecting licenses, drill and extract oil, sometimes from the depth of the ocean and sell the crude oil while paying an agreed percentage of the proceeds to the federation account. 2) The knotty issue is that they pay whatever they like because, Nigeria doesn't have the technical capacity to determine the actual quantity of oil they extract...this illustrate the superiority of knowledge over ignorance. 3) When Nigerians, especially the Niger deltans militants shout 'our oyel' they don't know that the oil is only theirs in name but in reality, the oil companies own the oil. 4) The best way for these oil rich region to fully achieve resource control is through ECONOMIC means. Let the Governments and peoples of the Niger Delta float their own oil companies, sell shares to foreign technical partners, sell like 10% of the shares to other Nigerians in companies that will be publicly quoted on the stock exchanges in Nigeria, London, New York or J'burg and start businesses.. They can't lose, they have comparative advantages over the Northerners and Afonja they love to accuse of undue benefit from oil. 5) If they must be genuine peace in the oil rich Niger Delta region, I expect sensible FG to deliberately encourage direct participation of the Niger Delta peoples in the oil industry ...militants won't be blowing oil installations if Delta, Bayelsa States Governments, Tompolo, Edwin Clark, GEJ, Asari-Dokubo & other potential trouble makers are part owners of oil refineries scattered across Akwa-Ibom , Bayelsa,Ondo to Delta States. The FG can even give out money to workers in the oil companies to buy shares in the oil companies while repayment is done by monthly minimal deductions from their salaries over 10years, so when they retire, they become pensioners-shareholders...you won't like to sabotage a company where you are eating and also co-owner. 6) The youthful energy, mental capacity and financial resources used in Militancy can take Nigeria to a new height if properly channeled to productive ventures. |
