To me they were not sacked but the institution decided not to renew their contracts

Mr. VC maka why. after giving Thanksgiving in churches to celebrate this federal govt job, u just come from no where and removed food from their mouth. this is wicked, it's not as if their salary is coming from​ your pocket and moreover the federal govt that's paying their salaries is not complaining. Now that the man has over-employed,can he pay them with his own money?let us leave the credentials of the people employed,let us forget about the way they are employed,let us also forget about the means/PRO who brokered their deals,and focus on the fact that will the inordinate employment hamper payments on the legitimate ones there.
The same thing happened at Federal University,Lafia,but that was about 21 staff.
VCs should learn and applicants should also be wise to understand the terms of reference when you are employed.I wish them well in their endeavors and have a glimmer of hope that somehow something should be worked out for them,to cushion the effect of the raging epidemic,called recession.

The management of Michael Okpara University of Agric, Umudike, Abia State, led by Prof Francis Otunta, has finally issued sack letters to 460 staff of the school who were employed by the immediate past Vice-Chancellor, Prof Hillary Odoh Edeoga.
Prof Edeoga left office on February 29, 2016, believing that his successor, Prof Otunta, would regularize those new staff but as it stands now, that hope has been dashed as Prof Otunta only succeded in showing them the way out.
This has created palpable tension and sadness in the university as most staff lost either a friend or a relation to the infamous decision.
The affected staff were asked, through a letter dated June 28, 2017 and signed by the Registrar, to hand in all the school properties in their possession to their respective unit heads. Majority of the affected staff were issued letters to that effect on July 4, 2017.
Recall that the Vice Chancellor, in his acceptance speech after inauguration, vowed 'never to remove food from the mouth of any staff'. Why has he gone against his own words? Your guess is as good as mine.

Why do some people derive joy in making life difficult for others. In economy like this, sack letter na suicide. Obviously he didn't sack them to restore sanity but to install his candidates. An example set by Buhari that once you assume office, you are to sack the candidates of your predecessor.

And you don't think placing them on at least half salary and use the other half to open departments in d university that can generate revenue for the University.The truth is that our leaders are myopic and believe in been spoon fed by FG.lf the former VC was still on ground,believe me they will be receiving their salary because he is a goal getter and will know how to increase IGR..U said u were a student there,let me ask you.D transformation you see in the university today,who did it among the past 4VC's.
Finally i hope the current VC doesn't fix his people.Time will tell.He promised not to remove food from people's mouth during his inauguration and he just did that.

Most of those staffs are not qualified.... I school in Michael Okpara,majority of them got the work through thier Nyash and not brain...so its a good call by the VC.let them re apply again through the normal way and have their CV screened.

i dont blame the VC. Outgone VC overemployed as he was about leaving (900+ for less than 500 slots). What sort of magic do you expect the incoming VC to perform? Allocation back then was even better than what it is now!!! He even tried by managing to pay them through this one year, since Feb 2016

thank God someone actually knows the indices at work at MOUAU. past VC Edeoga used the last 3months of his tenure to employ over 1000 mostly through questionable processes. he left virtually nothing un the uni's purse. what is the need to keep staff you can't pay.

I was only going by the content of the letter.
There are many cases of people that were suspended and later recalled. What does their condition of service say about suspension? Some still get paid half their salary until the issue is resolved.

How them want those family men n women feed their family, this is too much ni.

I am beginning to see why Nigeria is where it is today, people post news without getting the actual details and some irrational minds will jump in and start spewing trash. Pro Edeoga(former VC) is the worst thing that happened to that school. This is a man that became the vc not on merit but because he is a friend and former school mate(zoology and botany at uniport) to Goodluck Jonathan. Even during his inaugural speech the wife said he never believed the husband could emerge the winner.
A man that was sacked as a commissioner in Enugu state cause of corruption, You need to see how this man destroyed the legacy and reputation pro Ikenna Onyido created in MOUAU, on the verge of leaving office, he recruited both qualified and unqualified staffs to collect 60% of their salary for two years of which one of my senior colleague was a beneficiary. if not that i have hope of a better Nigeria someday, I would have been forced to call this country a zoo

Calm down,nobody has questioned the competence of the fmr VC who was also my Oga.Nobody is countering his 'transformation'.But do this qualify the irrational employments?unless you want to be clevernby half,u know it doesn't.
