Recruits Report At Recruits Training School The 2017 KDF recruits reported at the Recruits Training School (RTS) in Eldoret on Sunday 25th June 2017. Assistant Chief of the Defence Forces in Charge of Personnel and Logistics, Major General Samuel Nandwa officially welcomed the new recruits and opened the week long registration exercise of the new recruits before embarking on basic military training. The recruits were drawn from all sub counties in the recently concluded nationwide recruitment drive. KDF’s policy of being an all-inclusive force was well captured in this year’s recruitment drive. Men and women from all corners and tribes of Kenya including the 43rd tribe, the Makonde, for the first time managed to get a couple of slots. The week long exercise at RTS entailed verification of documents, thorough medical examination, vetting of recruits, and registration of the recruits to the training school. The exercise was overseen by Chief of Personnel Defence Headquarters, Brigadier Martin Ong’oyi and Chief Recruiting Officer Brigadier Joakim Mwamburi. The new recruits were having a time of their lives in the camp as they were already being initiated to the military doctrines and traditions to familiarize them with how things are done despite most of them seemingly still rooted in their civilian life. Some of them were eager to know what to expect, some looking confused, some nervous and majority also enjoying the orientation. Cases of conning were reported, suspects apprehended and currently investigations ongoing. Over one hundred conned civilians were lured to report to RTS in Eldoret for Basic Military Training. They were however guided accordingly. KDF in collaboration with the Kenya Police Service stepped up the quest to fight corruption and fraud leading to the arrest of unscrupulous men and women posing as potential link men to con the unsuspecting members of the public. As the recruits’reception exercise concluded, Chief of Personnel Brigadier Ong’oyi thanked the recruits for voluntarily joining KDF and further congratulated them for successfully undergoing the vigorous vetting and registration exercise. Brigadier Ong’oyi officially handed over the recruits to the School Commandant Colonel Pascal Kitiro. Col Kitiro welcomed the recruits and also guaranteed them that by the end of the training, their status will change from civilians to soldiers. He concluded by strongly urging the recruits to maintain high levels of discipline to ensure a smooth training program as scheduled. 1.The Chief of Personnel at the Defence Headquarters Brigadier Martin Ong’oyi addressing the new recruits. 2. Colonel Pascal Kitiro Commandant Recruit Training School (RTS), addressing the new recruits. 3.Captain Mutua of Kenya Navy giving out service numbers to the new Kenya Navy recruits 4. Major Mugacia of Kenya Air Force and other Kenya Air Force service members giving out service numbers to the new Kenya AirForce recruits. 1 Like

jteku:Honestly 20-30 years from now the entire world is going to move on without ever knowing that thing existed, why you ask ?? 1. didn't make a dent, its memory will simply fade away. 2. Didn't take part in any major operations, this is not even an insult but the only enemy a rooivalk ever had were hungry rebels. History will not remember your "best physical performance in the world"dedicated attack helicopter and there's nothing you they can do about it. 1 Like |

jteku: What's so special? How about the fact that if you Google "attack helicopters" it appears on the list, an elite of 9 helicopters made by 200 countries. Yes, 200 countries produced 9 platforms and the Rooivalk is there - Where's yours? We only need 3 Rooivalks per battlefront, so technically we can simultaneously run 4 fronts with only a dozen Rooivalks - That's effectiveness. ..... Lastly, you're not the only ones hating the Rooivalk, the M23 and Mai-mai survivors are hating it as well because it placed an end to their days of terrorizing women and children. 4 Likes

jakeporeshenko: You know... One Nigerian once said, don't throw stones if...... So, you're battling hungry rebels in your own country. Your airforce is flying sorties and bombing your own hungry rebels. Your own boys are posing next to dead Nigerians as victory. Your own so-called battle experience is nothing more than Nigerians killing each other. On the other hand.. The Rooivalk will never be used against South Africans, NEVER. We shall always be on the list of the few countries that successfully made an attack helicopter. As for you, you shall always be the guys killing each other. 5 Likes |

ActivateKruger: You are a terrorist so the military should fold it's hands? Why? The terrorist is also a Nigerian special he's enjoying some immunity. Bobo yi gor o. You know how many Americans have been killed by US drone attacks? USA has used it's hardware on its own citizens and one person here is trying to lecture us rubbishly on how an aircraft with zero video proof of shooting down anything alive will not be used on its own citizens. Be it armed robbers, terrorist, kidnappers. You also kill your own citizens too. Your logic is so dumb. |

ActivateKruger: How about the fact that no one buys it. Haven't you heard of a lady who thinks she is the most sexiest girl in the world, have a million plus followers on FB, Instagram and twitter, she gets all the likes and retweets. But she never realise the fact that no man ask her out or sleeps with her. That is the problem with Rooivalk always among the world 10 best attack helicopters but no one still buys them. 1 Like |

jteku: "no one buys it"? How about the fact that the 12 were actually bought by the SANDF from Denel? You think they were handed over for free.... Idi#t The fact that we can make our own systems without having to beg the US puts us out of your league. As for you, do you even make 1 helicopter in your country? You idi#t. 5 Likes |

NAF COMMENCES SURGICAL INTERVENTION SCHEME FOR IDPs The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has commenced a surgical intervention scheme for Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in the IDP camps at Bama, Dalori and Banki, all in Borno State. The need for the surgical intervention scheme became obvious during the recent series of medical outreach programmes organized by the NAF in those camps. The surgical intervention scheme covers general surgeries, obstetrics and gynaecology as well as ophthalmology. The first set of surgeries, mostly eye surgeries, being the most prevalent, was performed at the Medical Centre of the NAF’s 105 Composite Group in Maiduguri on 8 July 2017. The scheme, which is the brainchild of the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, is to enable the NAF win the 'hearts and minds' of IDPs, who were displaced from their ancestral homes by Boko Haram Terrorists. The NAF’s soft power approach in fighting insurgency, in addition to its military campaign, has impacted greatly on the IDPs and has given them a sense of belonging. In his remarks, the NAF Chief of Medical Services, Air Vice Marshal Saleh Shinkafi, said the surgical intervention scheme was part of the NAF’s humanitarian service to the IDPs towards providing them with the opportunity to have normal and productive lives again. According to him, about 300 surgical cases were initially outlined for the 7-day programme, which is expected to cover 100 IDPs each from Dalori, Bama and Banki IDP camps. However, there were indications that up to 250 IDPs in Banki alone required surgical interventions and the period of the exercise might be extended to cater for the additional needs. It would be recalled that the NAF has constantly employed the soft power approach at resolving the crisis in the North East. In this wise, the NAF had organized medical outreach programmes in many IDP camps in the North East, established emergency hospitals in IDP camps, provided surgical interventions to tackle surgery related cases in IDP camps and of late, provided meals to primary school pupils in Dalori and Bama IDP camps. The surgical operations for the IDPs continue in Maiduguri today, 9 July 2017. DOPRI 1 Like

I've seen some interesting assertions on the Cobras;they were the AH-1 variants and they AREN'T ANYTHING NEAR 40 YEARS OLD. They were refurbished by the US before Jordan received them. The handover of helicopters was approved by Washington, after blocking an earlier Israeli plan to sell the surplus helicopters to Nigeria, which is also battling Islamic insurgents in Central Africa. The Israeli helicopters were refurbished by the US Army before their transfer to Jordan. http://defense-update.com/20150723_israel_jordan_cobra.html These are the same frames with the KAF. Carry on! |

kikuyu1: You refer to 1980 story of 1970 mi24 hind old models that have been scrapped in Russia. Hind helicopter has improved for 40 years as technology changes. NAF flies current models 2017 mi-35 hinde not mi-24 old things. You can say 1970s Mercedes car is same tech and capacity as 2017 Mercedes car, then I will say common sense is not common. I think some people will have jealousy virus eating their brain cells just because NAF now has same new war helicopters as super power Russia

ActivateKruger: What I hear from those in the know, is that in the entire black Africa only Chad and Sudan have longer range air missile in their jets to shoot down any other air force and am sure that includes South Africa as a losing victim. There is a reason NAF chief of staff ordered jf-17 with longer range missiles which increased the budget amount. As lay man as I am, my common sense tells me a NAF jf-17 will wipe out a South African Gripen plane from a superior long distance. You South people should stop making foolish comments here and stick to photos. 1 Like
