How To Own A Designer Clothing Label Or Brand, With Less Than 100k by Simbels: 7:54pm On Jun 29, 2017
Owning A clothing brand is much more easier than we thought; but with less than 100k and no sewing knowledge, a lot of people will find it hard to believe, considering the setting up of the factory- renting a place and equipping the place with different industrial sewing machines that when the costs are put together, is running into millions of Naira. I am a clothing label owner myself, and that makes it justified that i know what i am talking about.

The secrets of owning your clothing brand with less than 100k (I am dead Serious) and making reasonable amount of money out of it, will be unleashed; Just follow the thread and you will be more than convinced, that its 100% achievable.

Hello everyone,
Continuing from where i left off; The great secrets will be gradually let out; thus, owning your own label requires you to put some basic things in place, as listed below:

1. Business name or Company registration (Important but Optional)- N10,500 do it yourself, OR N20,000 through agents.

2. Getting your cloth label tag- the one attached to the collar of most clothes bearing your brand name- I will tell you how to get it done easily-
N30-N50 per piece.

3. Getting the materials required at affordable prices-Italian shirt materials, Chiffon, Polo, Chinos,Trousers, Jean materials- From N300 per
yard; I will tell you where to get different categories of these materials at cheap prices.

4. The most Important! How to get design patterns and the making of the garments without a factory, no sewing knowledge with ease. This i will take you through, even if your schedule is so tight and mind you, with less than 100k

5. How to market your ready products easily, even if you don't have the time or shop/boutique to display your products.

Keep following the thread....

Hello Simbels,

Please I need an experienced clothing manufacturing consultant for my female office wear brand. I need someone to assist with the set up of the manufacturing plant as well as assistance with hiring all the necessary staff to operate the manufacturing plant.

Please let me know if you know anyone or have any information that can assist with my search.

PS. The plant will be based in Lekki, Lagos so the consultant needs to be based in Lagos, preferably Lekki.

thanks,

Hello, everyone,
I am so sorry, for posting this late, i had to create time out of my busy schedule.

Back to the topic of discussion, number 4 on the list to be precise:

To own a designer clothe label with less than 100k, of course, does not require you buying different industrial machines which are quite expensive;
Also, to own a designer label does not compel you to know how to sew or go to a fashion school; its the same thing that applies to a person like Dangote, who is starting up a Refinery without having a degree in Petroleum or Chemical Engineering. Your money should be able to work for you. What you really need to excel in any business, i repeat, to excel in any business, is Business Acumen or business "Sharpness".

To be frank, if you don't know how to sew and you to want produce garments, you need to outsource your sewing, give them out to professionals, but we have a big problem in this regards, most of our tailors are not vast in English wears making, even if they are, they don't have the required sewing machines, or know how to use industrial machines to sew to international standard; I have interviewed so many tailors in the course of becoming a designer label owner, that's how i got to know this. For the few ones that know how to sew English wears and that have one two of these machines charge high and their finishing are still questionable due to improvising with few machines they have.

Our Tailors disappoint a lot when it comes to delivering on schedule, they are used to small orders. Factories are fast springing up in Nigeria like we have abroad that specialize in producing garment for clothing lines. Big clothing labels like C.K, Versace, Nike, etc, don't have factories anymore, they outsource to garment factories in Indonesia, Pakistan etc, with this, they save costs; machines purchasing and maintenance and the hassle of production, are off their neck; they ship their consignment to warehouses and distribute from there.

So, to own your own Clothe label with less than 100k, we will be taping from the strategy being used by these Clothing label giants, by outsourcing to garment factory in Nigeria, that will charge less compared to local tailors, produce to international standard with the right set of machines and deliver on schedule.

Before approaching a garment factory to make your garments for you, you need to put these things listed below in place:

1. Get your materials ready

2. Get your labels ready, as they will need them when making your garments

3. Get your design patterns or sample ready, as it will help them understand what you want them to make

4. Get your packaging materials ready, as this would be used for packaging your products for delivery.

Now, let list the cost to know if the total cost is less than 100k

a. Business registration: N10,500 + sundry expenses= about N12,500

b. Clothe labels 30 per piece X 1000 pieces=N30,000

c. Materials from 300 to 1000 per yard (20 yards Varieties)=about N20,000 (This can be reduced OR increase depending on the amount of
material you want start to with)

d. Garment sewing cost per garment from N700 to N2,000 X average of 2 yards per garment=about N30,000 (This can be reduced OR
increased depending on the amount of material you want to start with)

e. Packaging Nylon with seal 100 pieces= N1,000 to N2,000

Total= up to N94,500 Maximum; isn't it less than 100k?

Can't the factories get the materials themselves? How can we source and send to them ..I can imagine sending materials from Nigeria to China

@nurshah, No, you are not sending anything to China, The factory is here in Nigeria, the garments will be made for you here in Nigeria.

Hello Everyone,
I feel like sharing something with you before moving on to the next agenda on the list, which is: How to sell your ready products easily, even if you don't have the time or shop/boutique to display your products.

What I've been sharing with you is based on experience; I have been there and done that, I started my clothing brand, with less than N100,000 Naira; but at first, getting good English garments tailors was a problem, they charge exorbitantly and couldn't deliver on schedule, so after making enough money, I decided to start my own factory, which cost me much but i had to, because i needed to produce to international standard and bring down my cost and to come to the aid of would-be designer label owner who would want to outsource their sewing to factories, that are not too many around and are hard to locate; to also help bring the cost of production down for the 'wanna-be' designer label owners and make their dream of owning a clothing label come true.

We can help you own your clothing brand with less than 100k and still mentor you all the way, towards being a successful Clothing Brand/Line owner.

I didn't say all tailors, and i was particular about English garments, not traditional attires, since that's most tailors' area of expertise, and i must confess, they have to go for re-training and testing before been certified. Moreover, we have a training school, so we end up employing our students in most cases.

Thanks for your question,

Selling products has been made easier than ever, once you have a quality product and you are given the opportunity to display it to millions of prospective buyers, then your chances of making huge sales is very high.

You can sell your products to large numbers of people, without renting a shop or running a Boutique. There are two basic channels you can use in selling your products and they are:

1. Online
2. Offline

Online: Selling online is one of the simplest and cost effective ways of selling your designer clothes, this offers you the opportunity of selling at higher price than selling offline, thus translating to higher profit. There are several platforms in Nigeria that provide millions of prospective buyers, for your products at no upfront charge but commission is charged after each sales. Some of the notable ones are

A. Konga: Selling on konga is quite easy, go to their homepage, on the top right side, you will find "sell on konga" button, click it, then on the landing page click on Register; fill in the necessary information, after that, a link should be sent to your email address to verify, then you should be taken to your dashboard as shown below.

In the dashboard, you have to do the following:

a. Go through the orientation guide

b. Complete the orientation assessment, by answering some questions relating to selling on Konga which are in the orientation guide, you have to get 90% before moving to the next stage, you can try the test multiple times.

c. Upload Valid I.D- National I.D Card, Driver's License, International Passports, Voters Card etc.

d. Upload a profile picture

e. Register for Konga Pay- Fill in Account details, as this will be used for remitting your money.

Then Finally, you have to attend a training at Konga office at Ikeja, before your store can go live, a message will be sent your email to that effect.

B. Jumia: Jumia comes second in the online shopping business arena after konga, they also have millions of potential buyers lurking around their site. Just like konga, you have to create seller account, go bottom left of their homepage, you should see sell of Jumia. then click on the 'start selling now' button the page, then on the next page go down and answer 'if your business is in Nigeria'. Then fill in the necessary information in the spaces provided. An email will be sent to you for verification and You have to pass Jumia assessment test to gain access to your dashboard. Below is what your Jumia seller dashboard will look like:

2. Offline- You can also sell offline without owning a shop or boutique; bulk sales, by distributing to boutiques and clothing stores would have to be adopted, and for your products to be accepted by clothing stores, it has to be of good quality, in terms materials used and finishing. They also buy from you if the price you offer them is okay. So, you have to bring your price down, since you will be selling in bulk, and don't make the mistake of trying to sell one by one to them, because they won't buy, they buy in bulk.

Boutiques are allover, if you are able to capture like just 10 boutiques ordering 10 pieces every 2 weeks, with N700 profit on each, then you have N70,000 Every 2 weeks and N140,000 every month and if you can capture more, then do the maths.

Now combining both Online and Offline channels to sell your Designer clothes, imagine how much you would be making with less than 100k.

See you next time, Discussion continues.....

Thanks,
If I may correct you, I am in lagos, and I am not the type of person that just go online to search for these things and post, like i said earlier in my posts, i now have a factory in Lagos, and i have my clothing label which I will soon post, and if you have been following my posts i told you tailors charge higher, thanks for confirming that point, but clothing factories like mine will charge less compared to individual tailors. All the prices stated are current prices, and dollar rise has been factored in.
