Are you saying all these cannot happen unless and until we restructure? stop deceiving yourselves. What you cannot achieve now, you will not achieve when you restructure because nigerians will still be docile and be forming 'me and my family'...'make them do anything we them like', 'God go catch them' and other funny talks. Will each regions be having politicians that will fall from the sky? As far as I am concerned, whatever that can be achieved if we restructure can be achieved now if the masses wake up and play their part. you need to show your crazy politicians that you mean business. Break their heads if you have to. show some sign that you need them to be accountable for every penny. we stop giving restructure as an excuse to be docile.

Who will leave the city and return to the village?

So Ph is village to the oil companies. Kano is village to Dangote. Enugu is village to Fidelity Coscharis Diamond bank and many others. This new structure will encourage regional pride and identification. Many corporate headquarters will leave Lagos.

Enough has been said, i really wish it can be put to action... Nairalanders what do we do to achieve this, and how do we execute the plan?

To all that wish for the progress, lets initiate a plan an act on it, even if it will require to create another topic for it, i wouldn't mind.

Youths let's start acting now, let's not wait for our rotten politicians.... I need your opinions.

@op I like your sound reasoning. Nigeria must be restructured. this will bring competition to the states. imaging Enugu generating thousands of megawatts of electricity through coal and selling it to rivers in exchange of oil.

and Benue selling their Agricultural products to Lagos in exchange for a free access to Lagos ports

but it will definitely take time

10 positive things that would quickly happen if Nigeria restructures...

I had never been a fan of the restructuring debate mainly because I had not really thought much about it. However, the more I ruminate on it the more excited I get (since I choose to see the good in every situation).

Going back to the national structure of 1960 before the military did their work might not be a bad idea o. Stay with me...

If Nigeria restructures into regions/provinces (i.e Northern, Middle Belt, Western, Eastern and South-South) and the FCT, I see (predict?) 10 positive things that would happen in quick succession (primarily due to inter-province competition)...

1. The first province to experience economic explosion would obviously be the Western Province. The Odudua Master plan will be revealed. There would be trans-regional 4g internet fiber connection/rail/subways/highways/power grids etc. Yoruba will become the 2nd official language. They are relatively united. They have oil. They own academia. They have mega corporations. The WP would be the first to have stable 24/7 power supply! Foreign money will flood the province. More Forbes recognised billionaires will arise. Some of them will be internet billionaires. Lagos will be relieved a little from overpopulation as railway lines from other states will make living elsewhere and working in Lagos a breeze.

2. The Northern Province will have stronger islamic laws. Sharia will be entrenched and this will make the NP become the least corrupt province. The middle east (Arab) nations will move in to partner with them, bringing major development. Jaiz bank and Unity Bank will become mega banks. Arabic and Hausa will compete with English for dominance in schools. This province will generate more solar power than any other province. After the west, this province will be the 2nd to have 24/7 electricity. They will start exporting food as a major revenue generator.

3. The Middle Belt Province will have a development conference. Focus will be given to solid minerals development/exports, tourism development and food production/exports. This will become a food hub in West Africa. They will export more food than any other province. Mega mining and food corporations will arise. This province will have foreign inflows through tourism development greater than any other province. It will host the most beautiful places to live in Nigeria.

4. The Eastern Province will transform into the Auto Industry Hub of Africa. Indigenous manufacturing of vehicles that will start competing with foreign vehicles will commence in earnest. This will grow to manufacturing of aeroplanes, helicopters, tractors, cranes, heavy duty construction equipment etc. Forbes recognised billionaires living in Anambra will arise. The Biafra agitation will fizzle out since formation of the EP will be seen as a Biafra success in another form. There would be so much development that villages (as we currently know them) will quickly cease to exist. This province will be the first to semi-urbanize all their rural areas as all the Igbos living abroad will rush back to take advantage of the changes.

5. The South-South Province will take the Uyo blueprint and run with it. An abundance of oil wealth and opening up of major sea ports at Rivers and Uyo will enable this region to revamp their infrastructure quickly. There will be more monorails here than anywhere else. This will be the 3rd province to achieve 24/7 electricity generation in Nigeria (mainly from gas turbine technology).

6. With provincial security forces in control, kidnapping, Armed robbery, Boko Haram, Fulani herdsmen and the Niger delta militancy attacks will all fizzle out. Nigeria will become the most secure and peaceful African nation; thus attracting more foreigners.

7. Each Province will have their own airline professionally managed. And with better roads/rail, air and land transport costs will crash.

8. With the rapid development occurring all over, Nigerias GDP will shoot up. Obtaining visas to travel out will become easy as more people will want to come in than go out. A worldwide immigration into Nigeria will commence, as Nigerians living abroad will be struggling with foreigners to enter the country. ''Nigeria will become the most desirable Nation to live in"

9. The central government at the FCT will become smaller and less powerful. There will be a mini-exodus from Abuja to the provinces as the action is now elsewhere. The outskirts of Abuja will no longer be heavily overpopulated. Abuja will become awesome again.

10. The 10th positive thing that would quickly happen is?...

since most people concern here is power generation in south west, this is solution......Lagos will generate power from hydro and wind(sustainable energy resource) by erecting over 10,000 wind mill on our sea shore . For those of you that think that power can only be generated through oil and gas you are a big joker. Technology has passed that level.Energy can now be generated even from waste which is doable in lagos considering the population.

power generation does not necessarily come from gas, remember; lagos is surrounded by water.....they can easily find a site to put up a hydro-electrical power generation dam.
Ghana gets some gas from Nigeria..so, what make SW Nigeria not to get gas from the SS?
dangote refinery will be there and has the ability to produce 12,000mw of electricity.
if there's a will............there's a way.
oyo state govt has initiated a 1000mw power generation from waste too.

in terms of GDP..............it will drastically shoot up cos all regions will be contributing to it.

If such restructuring is done in Nigeria it may nt favour the West that much because why the population of Lagos is this much is because of the functional Port there. If this happens the Calabar, warri, and rivers port will pick up and migration to Lagos will reduce drastically, intact some people will move back to their regions.Lagos is economically viable because of its large population.
If this happens the source of revenue generation of Lagos will reduce too.
My thoughts though.
Whatever has advantages has disadvantages.

There will be little or no monthly allocation so each region will have work with what they have.

They will be more accountable as D system will draw D leaders closer to D people.

There will be no tribe fighting tirelessly for power because each region will have her own leader.

The bolded is where i m confused. If you talk about the ss province, I no they have the capital to run their province and they even have gas for 24/7 power generation. Where will the sw generate this money to Carter all these? Cos I no ,if Nigeria is restructured, so many of those company in the west will relocate to ss cos this region has the money because of the the oil, and revenue in Lagos will reduce due to more seaport that will b build from the south. How will sw generate 24/7 power when they don't have gas.?

My brother that is why D West & North will hardly accept restructuring. As for D West, they will just find a way around & surely they will build their region. But the North, I have no idea.

Correction, those power plants get gas supplied to them via pipes from the N.D, there are no gas generation and refining plants on site at those plants.

Are you imaging after the RAPTURE or what? Nigerians already have a corrupt mind, nothing good can come out of Nigeria if restructured, just rotate the table for some people to eat.
Thank you, nothing wrong with the system the people are call corrupt minded and wishing for an utopia which they don't deserve as homeboy said there is a reason why we shifted to Federalism copying the Americans,America fought their own civil war when the south wanted to secede,Abraham Lincoln and the Republocan party won the election and subsequently won the war,USA is still one till today even though California will be the 6th richest country if it were an independent state,Nigeria's Federalism is one of the best because it is copy and paste, the people who are to pilot the plane are just bad people since 1960 till date, people like Buhari that want to change they chase them away in 1985 by babaginda mr maradonna and today the evil minded citizens wishing him dead but nothing is new under the sun, even Moses was despised by the people that had been in slavery for 400 years, the same people that spoilt Nigeria are the ones shouting restructuring, not more than 8 states in the Federation send money to the Federation Account, people in states that depend on federal allocation are shouting restructuring and no one has stopped them from tapping into their resources,no one has stopped the Niger Delta states individually or collectively from building a refinery(s)or petrol chemical industries,if they built any industries when the governors are leaving power they will sell it to themselves like midwestern oil, then they will say it is the Hausa people that is the problem, maybe it is Aminu Kano that stole the money in Delta State or it is Waziri Ibrahim that stole the money in Bayelsa and Rivers State? the truth is that you can't give what you don't have, just a misguided race of the most populated black nation in the world. No matter the system, region(zoo) an animal will still be an animal. There is nothing to restructure people like the governors, senators and local government chairmen that have not rendered account to the people,we want to go and give more powers to them, the number one problem with Nigeria today is hate for Buhari,we do not want change corruption will fight back like it did in 1984.

Restructuring would reduce the appetite for political positions because they would have to think of ways to develop their regions with the resources they have. It would make these political positions less attractive, and help us diversify faster. However before we go into restructuring, Abuja(Federal Government) should not be totally fuelled by oil money, and we must reduce our dependence on it to an extent or at least make the Niger Delta contribute a larger percentage to the federal Government for the first few years until we diversify properly.
Oil would soon be less relevant anyway.

Why should it be the nigerdelta that has to contribute the largest percentage? Why can't SW, or north contribute the highest percent? This is the reason why the agitations for division is inevitable

You guys are just saying things that are confusing people.

The main problem of this country is that there is no equity, justice and fairness. So before we talk about restructuring we have to first have a consensus where we will agree to conditions for peaceful coexistence. Let us sit on a round table and plan and implement a future for this country.

Our government will continue to fail because there is no peace and our constitution, in my opinion is a disaster.

what most of us dont know is, if Nigeria is restructured properly, Lagos would go down. Lagos would be more affected reason i believe is as follows.

Lagos is the only Major seaport currently being used in Nigeria. If the country is restructured, other states that has sea would make there sea useful eg Warri, PH, Calabar even Anambra would dredge river river and whether you like it or not little ships would operate there. With this, revenue generated for Lagos via seaport would be reduced.

International Airport: With restructuring most states would have international airport. If you remember during uncle Jona regime, one regions was opposing the upgrading of Enugu airport to international airport. Now people from the east dont need to come to Lagos anymore, they can now fly out of Nigeria from Enugu, so because of this, revenue for local flight and international flight operating was reduced and it would lead to reduced tax paid to Lagos.

Courier: I dont think DHL, UPS Fedex etc operate in Ekiti. Even if they operate, they would be very very small. But if ekiti has for example has international Airport, UPS would not need to land goods meant for Ekiti in Lagos first before it would then be transported to Ekiti. So if goods are transported to Ekiti directly via flight, it means people would need to build more houses to house this workers, by building more houses development would grow in the state.

Transportation: One thing Lagos enjoys is Population. Lagos generates alot of revenue from transport. remember that the more other states develop, people would be moving out of Lagos. for example, If i work in Lagos and am paid 100k, now i need to wake up 5.am daily to get to work on time, i have a rent of 300k to pay yearly, school fee per child 45k average. but if i get joy vacancy in Ekiti and i would earn 80k and am a native of ekiti i would go there because am sure of free house and also am sure of building my own house because land would be cheap or even free.

One of the benefit of proper restructuring is, it would encourage almost everybody to go back home and make ends meet because there would be development everywhere in the country. know region and state would want to be left behind. i would stop for now because am tired. Anybody can also add positive argument.

Your write up is far better than the biggoted OP own.

Imagine the OP saying that Arab countries will come and invest in the north? What will they gain in return? Why haven't they invested in other Muslim African countries? Even the SW will find it difficult when Nigeria is restructured. I can't wait for my region to finally have full control of its resources
