I do know the Rooivalk has significant advantages;can deploy 16 ATMs and shares commonality with the Puma but as I've said a lite version would've sold. As it is a HCH going for 45mn$ in the Euro tiger/Apache territory is strictly reserved for 1st world nations and their political economic reach. I've just seen the Indian ACH armour test. It resist 7.62 NATO up to 12.7 mm costing 30mn$. Not bad at all!

lionel4power: The fall of the Soviet Union, the Cubans going back home and eventually the end of Apartheid made the 80s military threats vanish overnight. The military budget shrank, we all know the story. As ActivateKruger would say, the military is not likely to buy anything until those Gripens fall off the sky and kill some people. So MikeCZA would have to kiss his Rafale dream goodbye, that won't happen even if Zimbabwe flew the latest MiG or Su's. |

kikuyu1:the hind can absorb more damages however, its lack of advanced sensory and limitations in its flight characteristics is a turn off. Although the cheap price makes up for it. the rooivalk on the other hand is big and as such its armor should be 'big' too but that's not the case. I understand that its solves this problem by using long range weapons. . when the NAF made attempt at the turkish T129 I was ecstatic because it would ha e complemented our hind handsomely. |

lionel4power: No dear, People have paid the supreme price for that great flag in ur nice pic and my pen is just too small a token to put in the pond albeit powerful if only we can use it right. You don't want to see me critic Nigeria cos I do too seeing our many failures but we must stop being apologetic for who we are T'is why they deride us. Have u seen them wash their dirty linen in public? We should celebrate our own. Young men and women have sworn solemn oath of allegiance up to death if necessary. Is that too far? Right now as we speak Nigerian servicemen are taking the bullet from islamafascists terrorists, deadly pirate gangs and economic saboteurs, kidnappers for ransom, violent gangs, potential secessionists etcetera for us to sleep with too eyes closed. Enemies abound foreign and domestic. Save for the Nigerian military boko haram would be in Lagos right now. People there are oblivious of what's going on in the north east because a soldier with kids, wife and family is dying on their behalf. Those five NAF men have put their lives on the line. 6 Likes |

lionel4power: The Hind at $360 million for 12 units is not cheap. Get your figures right. That's 30 million dollars Nigeria payed for each MI-35m. It does not lack advanced sensory or flight characteristics either. |

GreenandGold: Is there an award for the guys taking these pics? They go to great lengths even risky I might add. Probably might just set up school for shoots so we send guys over to learn. That Super Hind Is A Kill. SA Deserves Credit. Pic looks dusk, does the upgrade to Super Hind include night time capabilities? |

kikuyu1:Problem is funding. Remember it was primarily designed for the SAAF. Funding for the development of a new version needed to come from sales. |

lionel4power: Of course they evaluated a used one. Countries run by dictators are unpredictable. It's strong arm posturing and regime survival not economics. No surprise if they get one. The oil price slump saved us some very serious embarrassment |

Covert1: Military photography in that country is very mature. It also helps that they have dedicated Defence news sites, air shows and a good defence industry. There is also a large volume of defence enthusiasts, some who have access to the main naval base or can gain easy entry to Air Force base and training sites. However in terms of volume of photos released the military institutions themselves do not release alot. The photos from South Africa are private photos, which is good as a private photographer knows instinctively what the domestic audience wants to see. 1 Like |

Covert1: What i think we need is too attract private photographers into all of Nigerian military events, bring back NAF Air Expo and support local industry. Here are photos taken by private Nigerian photographers at a recent navy open day. You can see the quality of the photos aren't hidden. If we can attract those Nigerians who take city and lifestyle photos, military photography would improve better than it is now. 1 Like

Covert1: Countries such as Senegal and the Ivory Coast have been re-organising thier military. Offcourse they are not run by Dictators but we can see investments are bearing good fruits. True, Ivory Coast has a long way, still to go, but they have been investing. We all saw how swagged up the Senegalese looked in Gambia, with additional Saudi money, i expect reforms to continue. |

Henry240: Great idea. On the commercial side of things no question we've got top notch but Henry u and I know Nigeria's military is hyper sensitive to civilian access. Would be great if DHQ sets up a mechanism for that possibility maybe retain the guys directly under it's control for fear of leaks. I miss the NAF expo. It's not canceled but suspended because of Current Operational Exigencies. Likely would be back when the new birds come in. |

Covert1: Very good buy brother. I was initially shocked. They are making more than a statement. Probably after this, I expect they would purchase proper corvettes at the minimum. |

tdayof: Taking over west African waters is a stretch tdayof but it's clearly a poke at the balance of power in those waters. The Navy vision does envisage these threats. Problem is the timing of this purchase the Saudis made possible. The Admiral in Abuja has to move faster. 1 Like |

Covert1: It is true that the institutions can be quite reclusive, but look at the Air Force, the service has released 2500 photographs in the past 15 months, the Nigerian Army, although photos are poor, have been able to release above 600 in the same time frame. This means these branches are beginning to loosen up. They should retain the guys they currently have, but they need civilian assistance. It would provide us good quality images and in good numbers. The army and air force capability demonstration exercises held recently would have been significantly better. Man, i miss NAF Air Expo so bad, i also miss our usual Independence Day parades and NADCEL parades which are held in Abuja. The last NADCEL parade was in 2013 and the last Independence Day Parade was in 2010. It's crazy! I hope NAF Air Expo comes back soon, until then i'm looking forward to the Defence Expo to be held in Ghana this October. I just hope Nigerian companies attend. |

Henry240: The purchase won't stop here of course. I expect to see things in the air too, their Air Force is abysmal. Freebies are sweet. Look at the Egyptians with Saudi and Gulf money. The princes of Arabia have money like rice and will shower anyone with it willing to sell their birth right to wash dirty laundry for them. |

[quote author=Henry240 post=58424331] Henry sry here are my original comments to ur earlier post it mixed up with ur yours with me multi-tasking here. Letting u know so u don't sue me for infringements or plagiarism lol. You know the Air Force opened up a bit with some collaboration with the private sector making it possible. I'm still disappointed with the Army PR. You see my FAV pics is something the Army website should be flooded with. This things instill national pride. A quality dossier of BH war pics alone will set the narrative straight and debunk all the nonsense of the western press. We did far more than the Iraqis and now Philipinos in Marawi and we did it alone on far greater territory. But whose to tell the story. U tell ur story else someone else does to suit his agenda as we see even here. Those pics give u a chill of the Vietnam War. Something must be done. I concur absolutely U're thinking what I'm thinking. NTA is a disappointment. U know I was looking at the angle of those jets simulating combat and wondered why such poor angle of videoing. I imagined if this happened in SA the stunning vids and pics we would have seen. Same with the Sambisa exercises. Thing is we got the bite they got the camera at least for now no offense pls! Spoken like a true nationalist. Proud of u. Me too! Miss them so bad I pray earnestly God destroys our enemies bent on stopping our shine. NAF Air Expo will come back but that soon is the unknown. Better days is our hope. We will see in October about Ghana, curious to see the show they'd put up |
