I believe she was speaking figuratively when she talked about beggars. Anyone familiar with our tax codes knows that for you to be taxed you need to fall into a certain income bracket.
I think she was clear and unambiguous. she knew exactly what she was saying.just eager 2c how it will work out?

A welcome development. Esp those so-called Almajiris and hijab wearing women. Whenever they accost me on streets of Abuja begging me for alms, i just say "Sai Buhari, Sai Baba" and walk by

Don't bite the minister, guys. I think she was only trying to emphasize how serious the new tax drive by the government is gonna be. I also believe she was trying to crack a joke by the side too. If you take this statement on the face value then... I don't know what to say about you. Honestly.
what should I do to you if we eventually discover she means it?

Because Churches have tax exemption.

Again for a person to be qualified to pay Personal Income Tax, they must fall into the taxable wage bracket. So unless she has changed the Law or Beggars are earning way more than we assume, That was Kemi speaking figuratively.

Check the Law on Taxation to understand this better.

She said some beggars were earning millions and that “proceeds from begging are taxable. You are supposed to pay taxes even if your means of income is begging”.

there are beggars re better than u. go to north nigeria u ll understand what am telling u. chk bank acct and asents as u can see them on the street
To take taxes from anyone, you first have to have a way of tracking their income. How can the FG track a beggar's income when they don't even have a means of tracking traders' income?
Beggars are everywhere, even in sane countries, only Nigeria wants to start taxing them.

Buhari is a scam.
APC na 419.
They promised N5,000 stipend. It has changed to taxes on beggars.
They promised N40 fuel. Now we pay N200.
They promised N1 exchange rate. Now we pay almost N400.
What should we do to the zombies who senselessly shouted sai chanji?
What should we do to them?

i remember this word spoken by Rehoboam in the bible "Whereas my father laid upon you a heavy yoke, so shall I add tenfold thereto. Whereas my father chastised (tortured) you with whips, so shall I chastise you with scorpions. For my littlest finger is thicker than my father's loins; and your backs, which bent like reeds at my father's touch, shall break like straws at my own touch."...2019 will come and we will know who has the power...

A VERY large percentage of Nigerians will be in trouble!
It is time to buckle up (we were going to get here one day, someday anyways) . . . How can you own a house in Banana Island, drive cars worth around a hundred million, but pay less than N500,000 in taxes per annum?

Davido, Saraki, Don Jazzy, Peller, Emoney, Kashamu Buruji, and millions of people (politicians, business men, celebs, etc, are in trouble).

It is a good thing: you cannot be paying hundreds of thousands or millions in taxes and siddon look some people do dey do your money anyhow . . . even to do any how for politicians go hard small, cause of the taxman.

Diploma Kemi of Hackney continues to display her idiocy daily. For an undeserving accounting clerk imposed on Nigerians as finance minister not to know that gifts are not taxable in any functioning democratic economy is astonishing. Instead of this Buhari-Osinbajo administration that plunged Nigeria into unprecedented economic decline to know that it is government spending that stimulates economic rebirth, revival and growth, they now want to tax suffering Nigerians from coma to final death, yet the government provides ZERO tax maintained public services. It's about time the animal kingdom rises to revolt against these idiotic charlatan fake pastorian dullardeens! Anyway to demonstrate sincerity, Diploma Kemi of Hackney should start by taxing every kobo of the billions that the chief priestess of begging her excellency aisha the akara fryer collected from hapless Nigerians under the guise of beauty book launching and get involved scrounging.

Begging is a symptom of Government's failure.

They said she is a slowpoke, and I doubted them, now she has proven that she is a complete idiot.

Begging and Alms giving fall under Charitable Acts. Charities are not taxed, it is a Non-Profit Vehicle.

By taxing street begging, you institutionalize street begging and legalize them.

Street begging is a symptom of Failure of Government, then you want to institutionalize your failure, Mrs Kemi, I ask you, are you nuts ?

Is she nuts ?

This jack offs are not asking the religious organizations milking Nigerians to pay tax instead they are asking the peasants impoverished by religion to pay tax. Salt to injury.

Yes now.
Diversification of the tax net to enter their greedy pockets.
You sef suppose understand APC English now.
Did they not EXPLAIN to us that they meant change starts with US?
Are they fools or they know that we are their fools?

@EasyWork001 You see the last man to utilize his gray matter is the dumb one. Look at her statement and tell me if you really believe the Nigerian government can implement tax reforms to the extent that beggars would begin to pay taxes then you must be a mo.ron. A big one at that. To start with, how does a government that is so ill-equipped when it comes to keeping data and records like the Nigerian govt pull that off? Registering the millions of beggars on the street right? Applaudise smart boy. You are indeed smart. Meanwhile cut out the stupid tribal slurs the next time you intend to quote me. Comprehend?
