Last two weeks news

According to Saleh, Senegal “wanted to place an order” with PT PAL for a landing platform dock (LDP) as well as KCR-40 and KCR-60 guided missile fast attack craft while Guinea-Bissau and Gabon each wanted to procure KCR-60 craft.

Few days later, order was confirmed even by CNN.

Thats hippie bullshit though

Those planes have been used, else they wouldent be in the boneyard.

Planes only go to the boneyard when they have flown a certain number of hours that makes it un-economical to refurbish the airframe.

It's a copied post,
I believe from a reliable source, but he wasn't referring to all the planes

In the Kings English please....
The handler that helps to load goods at the port is not concerned with the journey the ship makes.

That's not literally what it means but yeah it's close enough.

Like you had an official confirmation for NNS centenary apart from the 2012 MOU? other details came out during the manufacturing grin

You can keep waiting.

Oh, I remember hmm115 said MoU is useless.
Dude don't put words in my mouth, I never said MoU was useless!! Go read what I said then come back!

Secondly yes I knew long before manufacturing started that NN ordered two OPVs from China, there was an official announcement from both the supplier and your Navy long before manufacturing took place.......which in this case we still lack both!

Guy Nigeria military budget will eventually get transparent, it has to, for us to win the war against corruption and have any meaningful progress as a nation. Lack of transparency got Nigeria to where it is today and we can't continue that way.
Though, just like every other country it will not reveal certain info that will put our enemies at strategic advantage over us.
So let us quit going about in circle arguing against fact and reality.

I'd appreciate that really cos this is completely unnecessary. We are saying what I'm saying even if obviously as I speak covertly. At least you deciphered the disadvantages of it's opaqueness which is potentially corruption. Pls read between the lines of my posts, my postulations are deliberate to separate facts from fiction and are proven reality. For emphasis, No NSA or CDS worth his salt will advice any sitting president otherwise. The Nigerian Military and State Security which are guarantors of the State' existence galvanizes all organs of the Government to work in tandem on matters of defence and national security. T'is why you have classified briefings. T'is why you see purchase of things not on paper. The budget will remain OPAQUE by many and or different standards whichever Government in Power. You may interpret however you want. Hope we close this now, or u can help me with the budget for classified things like the NIA & DSS. You can start with the DMI, not too hard but I'd love to know...

Congratulations to the NAVY, a lot of good news lately.
I agree.

I just wish we also add a minimum of 3 KCR-60 missile vessels also.

For a Frigate, our options are Germany, China, Russia, Romania, the Netherlands and Turkey.

German Frigates look a bit too risky for us, leaving China and the Nerthalands as my possible front-runners.

Anyway, it all speculation at this point. We will surely know.

Quite an Oliver Twist Henry grin about the KCR-60...we go break bank for everything grin I believe the Navy has answers for something in that category of threat.

Germany is highly likely for the kind of General Purpose Frigate projected@$350 Million.

Except if we are going to use the now refurbished Combattante class for that role, i really think we need additional missile boats. One more reason i like the KCR-60 is, it would allow for local builds. Again, a win-win situation for all of us.

My problem with Germany is, that country's equipment is easily prone to sanctions and political correctness.

How official do you want it?

After its success delivering two warships ordered by the Philippine government, state-owned builder PT PAL Indonesia says that it has received orders from several  ASEAN countries and from Africa.

PT PAL president director Budiman Saleh said African countries like Nigeria, Senegal, Guyana Bissau and Gabon had made orders, while Malaysia was another ASEAN country that had made an order.

“We need support from the government. We will cooperate with the Defense Ministry,” said Budiman in Jakarta on Thursday.

In May, PT PAL sent the second warship Strategic Sealift Vessel (SSV) Davao Del Sur-602 to the Philippines, while the previous SSV ship  — BRP Tarlac ( 601 )  — was sent in May, 2016.

“People see that the Philippines have used the SSV-123 meter long ships. The ships are a magnet for other countries,” Budiman added.

Budiman said the Philippines had made another order of two SSV and one SSV hospital ship and two 60-meter long missile-armed ships (KCR-60), while Malaysia had ordered a Landing Platform Dock (LPD) that can transport up to five helicopters.

Budiman added that Nigeria had ordered one SSV ship, Senegal had ordered one LPD ship, two KCR-35 meter ships and three KCR-60 meter ships, while Guyana Bissau and Gabon respectively ordered KCR-60 meter ships.

He, however, said that the workload of the company shipyard was still far from its capacity. “The workload in April was only 15 percent of shipyard capacity. Therefore, we need to push marketing to ensure the shipyard is optimally used,” he added.

Going back to the Chief of Naval Staff's comment. We can now strike out a few items from the list he made.

-The now confirmed SSV from Indonesia should cover up the proposed LPD to be purchased.

- 3 Helicopters have been bought .

- 1 Seaward Defence Boat currently valued at 10 million dollars is currently being built at the Naval dockyard in Lagos.

I should have known that everything has already been ordered because that is the way things are done in Nigeria. grin Soften the public first then strike grin cool

Nigeria and South Africa can benefit a lot from each other if they learn to put their differences aside. We stand to gain a lot by working together rather than working against each other. Their must be mutual respect coming from all parties because each one has its own strengths and weaknesses.

If there's a Nigerian Navy officer in the forum I simply wanna ask what kind of interest does the SSV serve in the navy considering the following:
- The NN currently has no defensive and offensive capacity/capabilities.
- The SSV only carries 3 helicopters and can hardly carry armour of any serious support to the 500 troops it carries.

I'm not trying to bash anyone, I'm trying to find logic behind the acquisition. Thanks

When I said the navy is getting the frigates as confirmed to me by someone who's in the Senate, mr jln said not in 5years time.

The government wi be releasing money for the navy in few more weeks.

The Nigerian navy knows the necessary thing it needs.

The logic here is that we're expanding. Frigates, corvettes and opvs are coming in soon. Our combatant class will also be in service soon which I guess with missiles installed.

On serious armour, the CNS said we're getting LST

There is no logic to what that guy says......all of a sudden Nigeria is buying frigates, subs LDPs.....

Now I'm not saying they can't.....but during a recession.....yeah I don't think so.

I'll wait for official confirmation from the NDF or from the suppliers website.

Nigeria might be in recession but won't stop us from funding our military requirement. I believe the numbers would be reduced sha.

You will have to wait for a long time. Remember, neither NAF nor Pakistan never confirmed the JF17 order, we only concluded we are buying it because the budget shows something like that.

My problem with Germany is, that country's equipment is easily prone to sanctions and political correctness.

Actually that's my desire too technology transfer with every purchase we make. I've advocated that on the first 3 examples of the JF-17, the long term plan being domestic production. This gives us strategic leverage having advanced Fighter Jet Technology. With the right negotiator I don't see China averse to the idea. Pakistan has leveraged it's close relationship with China for such enormous benefits. Same should apply to every other supplier. The win-win mentality as u suggested should be our guiding principle. Everybody borrows, shares for profit or steals technology to get to where they are. At the end innovation will get us to the promised land and we can.

Exactly our Combattante 111 missile crafts covers that role but I anticipate more Corvettes. I agree we need more missile crafts to cover the existing gaps.

Germany has always been our friend since independence. However for strategic reasons in today's world where there are no permanent friends I comprehend ur fears. But Germany are not exactly unreliable partners judging by history. However Nigeria buys with no strings attached cos our military acts in furtherance of our foreign policy objectives in Africa which means we can deploy for offensive action whatever assets we have, wherever we want and when we want. We wait and see.
