its nothing too special because ofcourse: someone followed her to the airport, there will be someone probably who will time her flight, and receive her at the airport in london. the only time she is unaccompanied is when she is in the plane, which in reality is not even necessary.

You are so wrong . . .like someone pointed out earlier, they are called unaccompanied minors put in care of flight attendants . . .my nephew was about 4 when he flew all by himself from MMA Lagos to JFK New York with his backpack loaded with his travel passport, ticket and US destination address/phone number.

any kid can travel alone anywhere in the world, you just need to A) be the child`s guardian, B) go at the airport to hand her over your child at the airline ¨unaccompanied minor¨ desk, and C) give the name of the person who will pick the child up at the destination. the child will travel with an airline employee (as chaperon) and will never leave her sight.

The Airline will chaperone her until she crosses immigration and into the hands of a waiting guardian. Plus the flight to London has no Lay-over so that even cuts down the risk.

my cousin of just 13yrs just travelled to germany two weeks ago to go visit his dad and he is gonna return alone

Nigerian children as young as 8yrs old were sent on solo flight-trip by their parents from Lagos to London as far back as 94. I had a neighbour that her young daughter was staying with her Aunt and schooled in London...only comes to Lagos during holidays. Naija went from okay to worse!

I was 19 when my parents allowed me to make my first trip alone. That means everywhere I had to travel to before then, my Mum goes with me.
And funny thing is, on that first journey, the car I was travelling in was robbed.
My dad para that day ehn. He said he regrets allowing me travel alone.
It was after a while, he calmed down and realized that this could happen to anyone. Even if they were with me.

I dont blame our parents for being so protective.

Nothing wrong there, by US laws her mother will pay the airline for chaperon, who will guide her into the plane, from there the air hostesses will take over, when she lands, they will escort her to her pickup area, where she will be handed over to a prior designated adult.

If she need connecting flight, they will escort her to the departing gate and pick up her bag, where necessary.

It is safer than you think.
