I've always felt that stainless steel is better in commercial application and looks gaudy in homes because it most always not matched to other accouterments.

My choice for my homes have always been wrought iron.

Good luck on your decision.

Gonna need opinions of mufutau55 EgunMogaji spyder880 on this. I know Hajj mufu once gave his opinion but need more clarifications. I feel uncomfortable using steel all through my doors. (external and internal). My brother keeps pushing me to use steel even for bathrooms. My taste is to use steel for entrance doors only. Having watched many Nigerian movies where steel doors are used, i dont like the noise they make. I thought that was not installed perfectly but many i have seen after that are just same thing. They grind when they are open or close.

I think i will prefer hardwood door for ALL interior doors and strong steel for ALL exterior ones. What ya think?. Is security that bad that i have to use steel even for bathrooms and bedrooms?. The way the steel doors grind when they are opened in the movies is like opening garage door. I rather go for hardwood. Besides, does it even matter when it comes to security if steel doors are used inside?. What difference does it make?

Ok. One more time. I used Chinese steel doors for all my bathrooms because of water... I did not use iron doors o! There is a different.
The Chinese steel doors are just the regular ones... when mean inside is either filled with foams or papers so they are not heavy at all.

I used imported wooden doors for the internal bedrooms... just to look more fancy.
You can also use good steel doors of better gauge of 50-70mm for the bedrooms.
I will like to use the 70mm type but they are very expensive for me, so I defaulted to imported wooden doors.

I have seen people use iron doors for their internal bedrooms but whey will I need this? This is my personal house not a rented building.

So this choice depends on you, the owner of the house. So those are my personal choice o.

Note: If Skimanski had started producing those his gorgeous doors when I was installing mine, I would have bought them from him.

Pic1: 70mm steel (Very good for bedroom doors - various designs available)
Pic2: My bathroom steel door (50mm) can also be used for bedrooms but thinner than above Pic1
Pic3: Imported Wooden Door for Bedrooms
Pic4: Another design of Imported Wooden Door for bedrooms (installed)

Thanks. I think i really mixed up Iron and steel door. I am having hard time differentiating btw the two. I can understand using steel for bathroom. But I definitely would prefer wooden doors for bedrooms. Steel or iron dont make sense there. Will love to see iron and steel doors side by side to tell the difference.

Iron doors are heavier than steel coated doors.

No worries, we'll help talk you off of the ledge. It's better to ask for permission than for forgiveness because once the concrete is set on the doors then to remove them kasala go bust - ask me how I know cheesy

So I think you're confusing steel and iron.

My front door is steel, like what they use to do gates, maybe slightly lower gauge but somebitch is heavy. I bought a local one, would never do that again on my main house but is okay for the bungalow.

You can get the fanciers ones that they manufacturer as Turkey, etc

My interior doors are not steel and are Chinese, I would call them aluminum and filled by some materials that I would never get in contact with knowing the combination of Chinese and Chucks wink It's not as strong as the local steel, unless you rap on them you can't easily tell that they are not wood.

I won't use either of these products on the main house. My main house doors will come from Skimanski if he's still doing them when I'm ready.

One of the better decisions I made was to build/finish/fit my garage apartment first as I am truly learning.

My recommendation is to go to a door place and have a looksee. Leave your ATM card at home and leave your builder at home also. What you are doing is getting up close and personal with the doors, the fit and finish, etc

If you can swing (pun) it, please consider checking with Skimanski, maybe he'll give you a sweetheart of a deal.

Good luck Sir.

The thread for Skimanski doors, steady your nerves with a good stiff Scotch before you look at the prices though grin

My brother.. you don finish the explanations o. Those thin layer of Chinese door steel should just be considered aluminium o.
The real steel is the heavier gauge. I used the thin layer for the bathrooms.

Yes o. I love those Skimanski doors, unfortunately I have already installed all my doors before he came out with his.
And Yes, she should give us "Nairaland Discount" when we are ready for the purchase.

I personally abhor these designs that creates ledges where dust can gather. It also creates a residential area for mosquitos and other incorrigible elements.

But we each have our tastes. Less is more.

This is about as far as I could go and even this was a bit much for me.

Same for me. But unfortunately my spouse loves complex designs.

I love your choice but they could have used a square shape rather than the circular shape in the centre

That one is not my house but similar design. My apartment garage is attached.

Me: Chief, please notice that in my entire site, you will not find any round shape, everything is square

Artisan: Yes, I noticed that.

Me: Okay so don't throw in any design that has circles, round, etc everything should be square, straight lines

Artisan: No problem Sir. I did one for one Chief like this in Abuja.

Me: Okay, good, carry on.

Me: (returning days later) Chief, I thought we agreed that only straight lines and squares.

Artisan: This is not a circle Sir, it's oblong

Me: fainting on the floor.
