patches689: All the other competitions in which we participate (EU and US), the host country's standard-issue kit is used and we still give a good account of ourselves. In Vlad's country, the 3 events (depth, sniper & airborne) for which we're slated all feature units who're familiar with NATO and Eastern kit. Hell, the CSIR has done an outstanding job on all that captured kit from Angola. Years after discontinuing the Type-63 MRLS, the Chinese bought a few of our modifications to study the FCS which they've now reverse-engineered into systems like the Type-81 and others. Some people at JOps were even advocating we participate in the tank competition, seeing we have 2 Polish T-72s, but that's a story for another day. 4 Likes

patches689:No. You got the destination country, wrong city though. The embarkation point is the key and giving that away gets me into trouble. I can be forthcoming on the destination cos the airport is both civilian and military. Normally, we use our UK cousins' base on RAF Ascension Island to refuel discreetly, but that's under repair. It's ridiculous that under regs, I have to tip-toe when anybody with a map, an internet connection and flight-radar can work it out.Hell, I posted about it after the last DRC rotation. Them times is different now, thanks to idi0ts at 16 Sq and Recce4&5 inappropriately sharing online. 4 Likes

frumentius: I guess they have never found themselves where they wished they had more dakka. That thing should been mounted with at least 4 LMGs on top of the main HMG. |

Iblawi1: Most of the epic SANDF pics are taken by that guy. He's name is Christo Crous. He's in the SAAF and happens to be a professional photographer. The rest of the pics are taken at airshows and things by private individuals. Some of his pics... 3 Likes

ssaengine: There's actually a few more other photographers with the SAAF, others are jet pilots. They often keep their pictures on Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest etc, you just have to find them... Their pictures are incredible, I often times hesitate posting them here for obvious reasons. Unrelated. 1. The Atlas Cheetah at Overburg, can't tell how old this picture is otherwise they'd probably testing some interesting sh#t 2. The bird we love to hate 3 Likes

A new Tanzanian armoured car based on virtually the same concept as the Mechem MC-90: an extremely lightweight, air droppable and compact 4X4 chassis carrying a large gun. Not sure if it's been posted here before, but it's certainly worth taking a look at. I sincerely wish them all the best in making this design work. Who knows? Perhaps someday a modernised vehicle concept like this will replace the large numbers of Elands and AMLs still in service all over Africa. 3 Likes

frumentius: This is very interesting background information. I saw the Flowchart 2 at Swartkops almost three years ago to this day, had no idea what it was. I assumed it was a model for a larger, manned aircraft. It never occurred to me that it might have actually been a UAV technology demonstrator. |
Re: African Militaries/ Security Services Strictly Photos Only And Videos Thread by ActivateKruger: 1:00pm On Jul 21, 2017 |
Hrmnn: My concern with light IFV/AMVs is the lack of protection. I wouldn't drive my guys to battle in something that will be knocked out by machine guns in an ambush. If you put light armour to battle it better be in considerable numbers like they would do with Ratels. If it's meant to go alone it better be thicker like the Kat. So the solution here is simple. Develop modular armour plates for this vehicle. Use 2 helicopters to deploy it. 1st helicopter drops the vehicle then the second helicopter drops the modular armour then quickly fit on the field and then hit the road. |
