JohnKester: Hello, even during continuous rainy days , 200L solar water optional 1500w electric heating element attached to the reservoir beside the vaccum tubes is rarely used because i oversized my central solar water heater system. The backup heater is mostly used by those using 100L instead of 200L etc.. If at all i must use the 1500w element attached to my system due to bad weather , its still central , highly efficient compared to the smallest 10L sweet home/ariston unit for just 1 bathroom/kitchen which draws btw 1kw-1.5kw power.. ... I have been mute on this topic but to be sincere , solar water heater is the ideal option .. Its a highly efficient and reliable investment for innovative house owners ! Cheers |

@all... do we think the solar water heater wud fare well in a rented apartment?............am thinking of incorporating it in my build.......... 2ndly perchance one wants to switch back to electric heaters, am thinking it should be easy enough to replace it with an external 50ltr ariston type... cc: georged1, johnkester @all |

pranil, i don't know what's happening but any time i quote your post i get banned for twenty four hours. anyway, i'm sure you already seen testimonials from johnkester who happens to be using a similar brand as mine from the same supplier. as for temperatures, recall that earlier in the year i did a comparison between the conventional (ariston) electric water heater and its solar counterpart. these days, depending on the degree of cloud cover, my water temperature still gets above 40c which definitely is more than what i need to take a hot bath on a cold day. believe me when i say that solar water heating is the next best thing to sliced bread - and if this coming from a guy who is not trying to sell you anything, it should speak volumes. 5 Likes |

earthrealm: earthrealm, like i said earlier in the year, anybody can install a solar hot water system, be it a landlord or tenant.for the tenant, the major challenge is where to put your water tower in case you want a gravity feed system. however, that can be overcome by installing a pressurized system. with such a system, the unit can be installed anywhere on the ground facing the sun. all you need is a pump to supply the hot water on as needed basis. its really amazing what the human mind can achieve when you set it to work. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by pranil(m): 11:57pm On Jul 22, 2017 |
GeorgeD1: I definitely believe you . there is no doubt in mind about the advantages . In India most of the big cities the town planners have made it mandatory for new building spurring faster adoption Seriously looking at the solarshop flat plate collector as my further research showed me that it is Grundfos OEM brand made in China. I have serious respect for Grundfos as a brand . The price is a deterrent though at 600 K it is worth 25,000 Units of Nepa which the back of envelope calculations say worth heating 2000 Ltrs of water by 10 DEG |

Good people. Great Nation. Good morning to all o. Please. abeg una, help me made decision: Is this a recommended good buy? I use a Magnum RD4024E inverter/charger in my office. and I have an offer for the following for: 80k each. 16units. We normally regularly have up to 12-14hours electricity daily. But I have also been advised to make sure the batteries don't get dead as that could make them die faster. so, after this purchase, I will probably be working on a solar panel backup. I run a 247 service. and primarily use the batteries for fans , computers, and nothing more. all acs are never on the inverter. I am particularly interested in these because they are Lifepo4. and the seller confirmed the are still up to 90% good. Very few cycles used, has more than 90% life left! 210 Ah Lithium Iron Phosphate Battery 4 Cells = 12v Lead acid Battery 8 Cells = 24v (2 X 12v) Lead acid Battery 16 Cells = 48v (4 X 12v) Lead acid Battery Capacity: 210Ah Height: 147 mm Width: 429 mm Length: 147 mm Bolt Size: M8 Voltage nominal: 3.2V Charge voltage cut-off: 3.6V Discharging cut-off: 2.5V Chemistry: LiFePO4

OR This was recommended by one of my Ogas. 12MVR200 MONBAT. This is however, brand new. and will set me back: 130k each. But because it's: lead acid. I am tempted towards the used ones above; Specifications: • Nominal Voltage: 12V • Terminal type: Front • Grid alloy: Lead-Calcium-Tin alloy • Plates: Flat Pasted • Separators: AGM • Active material: Very high purity lead • Case and cover: FR ABS class V0 • Carrying Handles: Yes • Terminal torque: 8 Nm

damola1: LifePO4 cells are delicate and unless you know what you are doing, they can easily become expensive bricks very quickly. You have to do a very comprehensive capacity test to be sure you are not being sold bricks. Don't take the seller by face value. Can you share with us who your seller is? I am also interested in getting these cells too. 2 Likes |

jazzman2: Thank you very much. The seller is UK based. Actually here is the link: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Solar-Battery-Panel-LiFePO4-Cell-s-210ah-Deep-Cycle-12v-24v-48v-Off-Grid-/272773759432? And no way for me to test as I do not have the resources to. Is there anyway to make the seller verify his claim? |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by jazzman2(m): 7:28am On Jul 24, 2017 |
damola1: You will have to invest in some specialised dc bench power supplies and coulomb counters to properly test, balance and characterise these cells b4 use. Some people may advocate the use of a battery management system (BMS), but very experienced users bottom-balance only and it's been working for them. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by damola1: 7:38am On Jul 24, 2017 |
jazzman2: Appreciate you bro. what you have asked is beyond me. Unless I hire a local to go do a local testing there, and not sure how to even find one. Quick one: would it be worth it if I have to hire someone to go there and do a test. and what will I be looking for from the specialist actually. if actually it's: 90%. will it really be worth it? second. what will you recommend overall considering my situation..am I over reacting with these phosphate versions or its the real deal like the guy proclaimed. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by jazzman2(m): 7:44am On Jul 24, 2017 |
damola1: LifePO4 is the future of energy storage if the price continues to fall. It's advantages far outweigh the aging lead-acid technology. But you need to know what you are doing with them. The seller's claims are generally true for LifePO4. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by damola1: 8:01am On Jul 24, 2017 |
jazzman2: Is there no way the seller can be asked to do a test and do a youtube upload as proof of efficiency? if so, which test specifically will I ask him to do and on which tool. since he's also an expert in solar business. What I am going to do with them is basically to power my office as I stated originally. I just want to get 247, no generator dream to work out fine. |
Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by jazzman2(m): 8:01am On Jul 24, 2017 |
damola1: To do the test, you basically hook up each cell to precision dc power supply through a coulomb or energy meter like the trimetric or victron energy meters. But before then, you will have to drain each cell to zero SOC state, which is at 2.5v resting voltage after 24hrs. Set the bench supply to constant current mode @ 0.5C rate. Set an over-voltage cutoff at 3.65V and allow it to charge up until the voltage reaches 3.65v and cuts off. The energy meter should be able to read off how much AH put into the cell. As a confirmation, modify the setup and discharge the cell through the energy meter to a load resistor to 2.5v after resetting the energy meter. |

earthrealm: GeorgeD1 has said it all. Nothing more to add. Until you begin to enjoy it, you won't completely understand what we are saying. I will just paint a little picture: Imagine hot water on call, without thinking... You don't need to bother whether there was light to run the heater, or if the heater would irredeemably drain your batteries, assuming its connected to your solar setup. Just turn the tap and hot water flows as a natural way of life! The beauty with this particular system is that it is a standalone, not depending on anything else to run! I am sure you get the picture now! Cheers 3 Likes |

jazzman2: The seller has not quoted the Max charge and discharge current. The cells pre 2015 were all low rated ( mostly 50 Amps) ( 2.5 KW on 48 V max) Please check that.
