Hello carlanders, most folks believe when a car engine oil becomes dark, it mean the engine is due for service, and the darker the oil, the more concerned you should be about the maintenance of your vehicle even when you might have done service a month before.

Ill need the assistance of car gurus in the house to help on this matter.
Thanks

A fake or sub standard oil might go black fast, To know whether ur oil is over due, just dip ur hand n feel the oil between ur thumb n ur index finger...... if it's due, it will be black and also have impurities/residues within it.

See all the 'car ajebutters' above speaking big grammar, it's obvious they are driving 'vip cars'. If car start, i put am for reverse 'he enter', no weird 'loud' noise, no smoke, no jerking then it is not due for service..... angry angry

No no and no

B4 u run a brand new oil for one month it's usually very dark

One way I have been practicing to get the best from oil getting black shortly after service is to drain @ night after parking the car when it is hot and allow it drain thru the night gets rid of all old oil before I pour new oil the following day.
I.have observed this process make the oil retain it's color far longer than when I drive the car to a mechanic for service
This is applicable to.DIY savy other wise get ur mechanic service ur car in the morning before u start it for that day.
Draining when hot through the night will also safe the engine from.sludge build up

That your 2010 Corolla actually requires 5w20 oil. See picture. It is also available at the same price and free shipping Nationwide
With this your oil, how long will it take before a replacement is made.

It is not my Oil. It is Genuine Toyota Motor Oil.
Depends on how far and how hard you drive.

Most people use it for not less than 6 months, some up to 9 months. Take your pick

Drain when engine is very hot, I use total filling stations n there is this air pressure they blow inside engine to clean all d old oil b4 putting a new oil guess dt helps.

Finally what matters to me is d kilometers I ve covered if d oil like let it be darker than coal it must give me 3000km @ least

The engine oil in your engine have turned black? You are killing your engine. Change it when it is brown and not when it is black. Now that the engine oil black, the piston and rings must be wearing out since the oil is no longer sticky. Any time your oil is brown, tap it with your finger tip and know if it is sticky or not. Change it immediately it is no longer sticky and don't wait for it to turn black before changing it.

Brown ke grin grin grin

I bet u most oil will go brown after one weeks of service with less than 500km covered

Two main things to consider:
1. Km covered since last oil change
2. Time since last oil change

In our extreme Nigerian conditions, change your oil every 3000km. If you can afford to use a smaller interval, say 2000 km the better
Your engine will last much longer

If not sure then change every 6 weeks

But better to go by mileage

To answer your initial question best to Change oil now and then follow above guide

Bross 6 weeks change and he is not a transporter ?

Engine oil should not be dark, when it becomes dark it should be changed, remember engine oils clean the engine, so are transparent when bought new.

The SAE40 I see is good for diesel engines, dont know if that engine is diesel.
If you put engine oil in yoyr car and run it for one hour it will turn black . If you put engine oil on one metal amd rub another metal on top it will go black . Reason friction caused by mega heat and lost particles . No one can eliminate this fru liquid lub the only way round this is air lub . Or magnetism..
PS what do you mean by SAE 40?

It's a week plus now that I serviced using the hot drain method I explained above, and the oil is still pure like fresh from the gallon and not black yet.
I realized a real service requires hot drain over night

No I Change Oil Every 3 Months It Cant Go Black In One Hour Unless You Ve Been Topping Oil Alone.
Theres A Big Difference Between Topping Engine Oil And Changing It.
SAE 40 is for diesel engines.

I use this oil for at least 8 months. I think this is one of the best engine oils in the market now. No shorting and I really like how the engine becomes silent after use. Very soothing on the engine. I give it 5 stars *****

My oil does not turn black at anytime from the guage highest is dark golden colour. After a week the colour of my engine oil is still golden like i just poured it into the engine. though i used the warm approach of engine i said warm not hot to drain before i refilled.

oil is MRS full synthetic 5W40 shorts at the 4th month (i normally use 3.5L first then top up with 1 litre at 5th month and the remaining 0.5L at the 6th month) but the 5litres gets me through 6months or 8000km which ever comes first

I don't need or use account number I have a vault buried somewhere in a cementary that's where I keep my money. Just enter any MRS fuelling station and ask for full synthetic, they have a 10W40, if you become too friendly with those sales girls with succulent water melons grin they will do magic and swap it with the 5W40 cheating you.
