1: VBIED was jammed.
2: VBIED halt before reaching the tank. There's two probabilities why this happened. (a) The driver was shot dead (maybe by a sniper or from any of the soldiers standing close to the checkpoint). (b) the VBIED driver was frantically trying to detonate the IED which make him slow the vehicle speed and halt because of the urgency to detonate where the soldiers are located as it's obvious it was jammed.
3: The tank was proactive. Number (2b) comes to mind. IMO, the tank mauled and crushed the VBIED as a way of neutralizing the VBIED driver maybe because of scenario number (2b) above.
4: Order of Firepower and Survivability. Tank, MRAP(jammer), another MRAP(probably carrying soldiers) and Humvee. They retreated in that same order with the tank then shielding the rest of the convoy from the blast.

One of the lessons here is to invest in what could turn the battle in your favor. At least, the jammer was able to buy them time and get both civilians and soldiers to Safety before the blast.

one question

why did the VBIED explode ?

anyways jammer acts against RCIED only , VBIED r generally manually initiated and therefor cannot be jammed unless the VBIED contains a RCIED and is detonated from a distance using remote trigger

sometimes VBIED contains a remote initiated detonation mechanism as a fail safe mechanism against the possibility that the suicide bomber might have doubts regarding the availability of 72 virgins in hell. grin

also the intended suicide bomber is not informed of this.

so if the suicide bomber decides to chicken out at the last moment , a brethren of his following him at a safe distance will detonate it never the less.

I’m not an expert but if the driver was physically trying to detonate it then there’s nothing a radio jammer can do.

I'm aware Jammer works against RCIED but I'm just lost in thought why the VBIED failed to detonate if it was manually operated until it was crushed. MALFUNCTION or what?

Remember, I was only assessing why he had to stop few meters to his target. Anyway, there are cases where VBIEDs failed to detonate upon impact. We've had that in the NE as well.

VBIEDs normally "ram" into their target, but I don't think the same is the norm with RCVBIEDs as they are mostly left by the road side or premises of their targets.

Correction welcomed

1st option

secondary back up : a remote detonator was there ( another person on a vehicle followed him ), and when the VBIED failed to detonate , the back up was used . however it is highly possible the back up was at a considerable distance to positively observe or was having trouble getting in range or had a slow response to the rapidly changing sequence of events or maybe simply bad cellular connection grin (if cell phone was being used)

2nd option

type of detonator : the detonators of VBIEDs r generally manual and have a death switch type trigger, if pressure is released (fingers off) , detonation is initiated, the ahole probably got crushed with the death switch pressed in his hand, but with time the pressure got relieved and then the death switch got released leading to explosion .
(one probability the ahole on death suffered from cadaveric spasm followed by primary flaccidity which maintained the pressure on the switch to release it later sometime )

grin grin. He must have done his home work to know that if his brothers in the same line of business with thousands of them dead are taking 72 each, some of them wouldn't be contented with that number and the probability of him getting virgins would be slim since cheaters who had gone through baptism of the pendulum would simply make use of those tightening blablabla grin

yes cadaveric spasm can happen rarely after death and most important flaccidity can explane the detonation if its a pressure holding system , rigor mortis start only from 3 to 4 hours after death and is maximal after 6 to 12 hours and disappears after 36 to 48 hours .

but according to egyptian official source ! there was 4 gunmen in the car not only one ! they were planning to put the vehicle in front of the tank in his blind spot when he cant fire on them ! then run and hide , let the car explose ( a timer device ) , destroy the tank and the two military vehicle with him ! then came and attack the soldiers in the checkpoint behind ! so it was a Timer denotonator thats why there was an explosion . ( 7 civilians died during this attack)

If there was a jammer the car wouldn't have exploded, untill it will be safely detonated by the E.O.D team, except for cases where there is a secondary detonator.

But I think what happened was the trigger-man holding the detonator panic or the I.E.D detonator mechanism malfunctioned before the m60 tank got to them. these his my own opinion .

The explosives has being crushed by the tanks weight, thereby generating a lot of heat/pressure: setting it up before it took a while exploding.

I watched the video several times and discover that some people rather than run away from the VBIED as far as possible, they choose to lock themselves in the vehicle.
In short, while others are giving themselves distance from the bomb others ran closer to it.
