nurey:Oga, can you shed more light on the primera 2000/2001 model. Is it a reliable one ? The pros and cons? Is there anything to watch out for? CC: kingreign, diportivo, Princetom A close buddy wants one but fear they catch us hence I took the liberty to ask the Gurus here. Toyota is now getting out of reach |

nurey:OK boss. Pls correct me if I'm wrong, is there anything to. Be worried about the the engine, I heard it is aluminum block and might not be durable. Tnx |
Re: Best Car For A First Timer by nurey(m): 9:10am On Jul 29, 2017 |
nams77: The engine is durable as far as I know. The issue with Nissan engines is it got a lot of mental sensors, something as cheap as 2k can frustrate, but if you calm down and have a scanner, you shouldn't have issues what so ever in diagnosis. Now to aluminum engines, it is light compared to steel but aluminum engine doesn't like overheating one bit, once that happens the aluminum block changes shape and it cannot be fixed like steel block reason why mechanics and users hate it. Two precautions to take concerning aluminum engine 1. Never run fan direct cause if fan fails, overheating sets in and that's the beginning of the end. 2. Use recommended engine oil as wrong engine oil causes timing chain stretch for engines with timing chain (it's not a cheap fix) and oil valves and seal weakening. |

nurey:Tnx chief, quite enlightening. Nice weekend ahead I remember we chartered a taxi a taxi(my colleagues and i) to a remote location. I was seated in front and I asked the driver about the car he was driving (a primera). He said the car is durable and it has been serving him faithfully but the downside is that the engine cannot be ringed. I couldn't say anything since I am not a car guru |

nams77: If you use the recommended engine weight and no overheating, you are good to go. I too just heard from a mechanic that a 1mz-fe engine of 1st generation sienna packed up. He was advising to always change engine regularly. If I told him to open my engine and check he won't believe I run my oil 6months or 8000km. |

bamzyboa:it's a comfortable car, fun to drive but I beg you, if you don't have access to reputable auto technicians just avoid this car. Don't let anybody do trial and error with it for even one second |
