WHATSAPP continues to be the world’s most popular messaging service and this latest news from the Facebook-owned firm will have its rivals weeping.

It wasn’t that long ago that WhatsApp announced its service was being used by one billion people every month.

Now it seems the messaging service has continued its growth in popularity with the Facebook-owned firm just revealing one billion people now use it every single day.

WhatsApp was originally launched in 2009 by ex Yahoo! employees Brian Acton and Jan Koum.

However, in 2014 the service was purchased by Facebook for a staggering $19.3billion and since then its user numbers have flourished.

Now this latest news cements its place as one of the most popular apps ever created.

As well as one billion people using the app, WhatsApp has also released statistics showing 55 billion messages and 4.5 billion photos are shared per day.

Revealing the latest news in a blog post, WhatsApp said: “Just last year, we shared that one billion people around the world use WhatsApp every month.

“Today, we are excited and proud to share that one billion people around the world use WhatsApp every day to stay in touch with their family and friends.

“Whether it’s sharing personalized photos and videos, connecting through video calling, or keeping friends updated throughout the day with Status, communicating on WhatsApp has never been easier or more personal. We are humbled that so many people are using these new features to connect with one another in their own special way.

“As we celebrate this milestone, we’re committed more than ever to bringing you more useful features to enjoy, while delivering the reliability, simplicity, and security you expect with WhatsApp. Thank you for your continued support.”

These latest user numbers come as WhatsApp has pushed out a major update to its app.

The Facebook-owned messaging app now lets its army of loyal fans send documents of any type during chats.

Previously, files that could be sent via WhatsApp were limited to standard PDF documents, but file size is now the only limitation.

WhatsApp says documents of up to 100MB can now be sent which should easily be enough for the average user.

Other new features include the ability to pin chats to the top of chat lists and multiple photos can now be forwarded quickly and deleted all at once.

Along with these official upgrades it’s also thought that more new features could be launching soon including the option to send and play YouTube videos within the app.

Telegram is still ahead anytime any day. Imagine a group chat of 5,000 which is a full community in some localities whereas WhatsApp brag with 256 members. Sending video up to 1g yet WhatsApp brag with just 100 mb. What's this nonsense op is posting just to spite telegram never minding it's giving WhatsApp headache

All this stuff are just for a reason,"WhatsApp is just more popular".
The ability to pin chats was stolen from telegram. Telegram had encrypted chats long before WhatsApp launched Thiers. You still can't unsend or edit messages in WhatsApp. WhatsApp has only 256 members in a group.WhatsApp can't share files up to 1GB and lacks cloud storage.
WhatsApp ain't the best man. It's just the most popular.

...and what do you really need a group of more than even a 100 people for?.

Some features of these IMs are just unrealistic.

...and what do you really need a group of more than even a 100 people for? Are you kidding me? 100 persons is too small for a group chat especially when more persons are interested in information dissemination.

I just can't imagine myself in such a group, messages will just be cumbersome. If I need information,I have Google.

My brother it goes beyond google. Take for example you're in a group chat of 100 persons and more persons are interested in such group because of information what will you do as an admin?.Take for example a department of 800 students, how would information be passed by the class captain? Do you think he or she would create 3 groups with different admins? And if he or she does that don't you think one group would benefit more than the others? That is the issue WhatsApp hasn't addressed yet.

Nobody is beefing here. What features did telegram steal and from what messenger. If WhatsApp steals the features you mentioned, it is a clear indication that they lack innovation and creativity.
