This might sound bad but I believe someone sold them out.
Very intelligent comment. I agree with you. The NA is suspecting same I am sure. The problem is that it was all so predictable that many people should be fired for this. Even a kid should have anticipated this.

Look at something. CIA has her own drones. Why? You don't trust someone from the military not to sell you out when you need to do some covert operations.

NIA should have some neeccerary equipments. I'm sure they knew about such high profiled convoy. Then sweep the area with UAVs looking for some thermal signature.

I'm sure the ambush came with BHT launching RPGs On the military convoy then bringing the security capability to something low.

I'll also suggest this guys don't drive too close to each other again. 10M -20M is enough while maintaining a steady and perfect speed. If BHT attacks a single car before moving 20M, other vehicles in the escort already know how to react. Get the radio man to report to the command and ask for a air backup. Then you guys need to move into a tactical formations and start suppressive fire against BHT. 10-15 Minutes, DHQ or the theater command has eyes on you from the air and then you know what next.

PS: I'm not saying abandon the first vehicle but go damn suppressive. Go super suppressive and BHT won't go near that first vehicle that ran into a Rocket fire. (Occupants by then will be doing their best to go into safety position and luckily for them If it's just a gun fight, they'll return in a professional manner.

Winning this war isn't just about having military on ground at NE. It's about DHQ, NIA and others acting super smart.

You are 100% correct about initial RPG but I am sure there were no (or very few) MRAPs in that convoy and too few soldiers to go super suppressive.
There is a stupid culture in the NA of going lightly armed on guard/ escort duties. They always underestimate opposition. Very many such incidents in the Niger Delta

Also the people Boko Haram throws into this kind of thing are programmed to die. Possibly many fighters were involved so a ratio of three to one is bad odds. The only good thing is that they probably exposed themselves too much on this and suffered devastating losses in the hundreds.

Yes they're programmed to die and they are very much. Did you watch the video on NPF and NA convoy?

Those guys have zero tactics. It's just spread and attack.. They were very much too.

NAF was so helpless to strike on some neeccerary positions and I guess that was due to hostages already. The main thing is during ambush, get so defensive until back up comes. The best idea, fall back as you don't know what's ahead so fall back and draw a defensive fire. (this gives the air backup (especially when the backup is by a helo) to come from your back and strike BHT location.

We've been loosing enough soldiers to ambush, so I feel there's need to review the way our guys respond to ambush.

Dis camera's certainly needs lots of them handy to make an impact on the theater, when I heard from the security meeting held by the vice president and service Chiefs..... I was hoping procurement would be ordered and not Camera's for crying out loud. The Maiduguri spectacle would have been avoided if our troops had just 2 MRAPs in dat convoy to act as shield and suppressive fire. We should do the right things though Nice ones on the cameras as a start.
What cameras are you talking about
Where did it see the topics discussed during the meeting ?

what can we do to enable our voice get heard In other Climes they change tactics to rise to the challenge but over here our Defense hq just sits and watches as ambushes claims lives of officers and men... God Help us get it right this time.

The army needs to speed up the request for those MRAPs on order, I doubt the convoy had any MRAP for suppressive fire, could our light skinned Hilux provide such?? We loss lives everyday, not just any life but of our Gallant men...

Time for a weekly roundup of happenings in the SANDF

First up:

SANDF fleet rejuvenation, Cuban scrap magicians and alternative revenue streams.

- The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is looking at stripping almost 8 000 unserviceable vehicles of useable spares and selling the rest as scrap.
- The initiative aims to bring in revenue from the unserviceable vehicles and address the South African Army’s spares shortage.
- Netwerk24 notes that the scrap value of a wreck ranges from R1 200 to R2 500 (on average thats 14 million ZAR, or 1,4 million USD)

- In the 2016/17 period, 1 871 vehicles were repaired in collaboration with the Cuban armed forces, at a cost-saving of R108 334 million (~10 mil USD).
- In the 2015/16 financial year, 235 operational vehicles were repaired and another 286 were undergoing repairs, 850 vehicles were prepared for preservation and 524 deactivated for use as spares.
---> 2106 vehicles repaired so far

- Cuban specialists were able to repair the following equipment:
-- the bio-medical workshop
-- vehicle diagnostic machinery
-- medical technology equipment
-- a magnetic particle test bench

- The South African Army possess more than 10 000 A and B vehicles
- Operation Thusano aims to overhaul 4 200 vehicles

- The Wallmansthal vehicle storage facility alone has 900 serviceable vehicles in covered storage, and thousands of other unserviceable vehicles in open storage. 2 400 vehicles parked in the Armscor park at Wallmansthal were undergoing disposal in 2015 but this process was suspended as the Army realised it could bring some of the vehicles back to serviceability and use them as a source of spare parts.

"From Havana, with love"

- SA National Defence Force (SANDF) Chief, General Solly Shoke, was in Cuba recently for three military graduation ceremonies

- At the José Marti Military Technical Institute in Havana a total of 10 SANDF members graduated in Air Traffic Control, Technical Aviation, Technical Armaments and Technical Radios courses.

- Next up, at the José Maceo Inter-Arms School in Santiago de Cuba another 10 SANDF officers graduated after completing a three year specialised technical tank training and tank transporter operations course.

- Finally, at the General Maximo Gomez Revolutionary Armed Forces Academy, 13 SANDF officers completed the Defence and Security Programme (SDSP) as well as the Joint Senior Command and Staff Programme (JSCSP).
- Both programmes last a year with students tutored in strategic operations. Seven SANDF officers, all colonels and captains (SAN) attended the Defence and Security Programme.

Note: A number of awards for "best student" were handed out. I have not listed these as it is unclear as to whether it was for the best student on the course, or the best South African on the course. Thus it would be misleading to post them, and as such, you can read about them in the article if you wish.

"pretty nurses for dirty soldiers"

- A graduation ceremony this month in Unisa’s ZK Matthews Hall added more than 70 qualified nurses of both sexes to those already serving in the SA Military Health Service (SAMHS).
- 39 uniformed nurses successfully completed their four year diploma courses and were presented with diplomas in, among others, general nursing, midwifery, healthcare and psychiatry.
- A further 23 SAMHS members successfully completed a year-long primary healthcare course with another 14 making the grade in the midwifery course, also a year of study and practical

an alternate view

duterte does not like the americans

but Philippine military has very close ties with american military something which duterte himself acknowledged

so in this case the Americans r simply hedging their support to the Philippine military in this times of their crisis who as a institution r still their allies inspite of the political misgivings with the Philippine government.

connect all these with the south china sea issue and u get the big picture as to why the americans r not letting go of the Philippines.

the above views can be wrong also
