Ordinary from CMS to ajah....all your battery go drain for traffic jam. May be they have to produce power banks to charge the car...kikikikiki...I trust the Chinese to do that.

Solution might be easy. Come up with a model that charges the car on the road as it is moving.

It is not. If not because of our useless leaders. Calculate the cost of running generator for a month and the cost of ur Napa card if there is light.

I have seen uncountable number of electric cars abroad. Car manufacturers are churning out electric cars daily. I was at BMW showroom recently and most of the new cars are electric. Nigerians have to be aware that the developed nations are moving away from oil.

Here is an ambulance charging

The downside of the standard version, for some Nigerian buyers, is that it won't be able to drive from Lagos to Onitsha on a single charge

Bros. Why this route?
With the base model, it can go LAGOS-IBADAN and BACK TO LAGOS on a single charge provided that you have less run around in IBADAN and it will still have about 50km to spare.

@OP
The standard version can travel 354 kilometres on a single charge, and when charged for 30 minutes, it can travel for 209 kilometres.
This i guess you're referring to charging with supper charger. Cause, if you charge with the normal 13Amps socket like that we use at home, It will take more time.

Also @OP, the Topic is quite misleading. I think should be affordable not the cheapest. where is NISSAN LEAF, CHEVY BOLT and other smaller EVs.

@All
I think we should start looking at the direction of renewable clean energy. Tesla is not just a car manufacturing company but TECH company trying revolutionize the world(My opinion). They are majorly into renewable energy and space exploration. The EV is just part of their product.

We talking of electric cars not generators besides if we ha e 24 hrs power supply Nigerians might struggle to pay unless they manage it like they do in the West

What you don't understand is that Fuel stations would be converted to car chargers. When the drum beats changes, dance steps will also change.

Dangote is spending billions on oil refinery...

Others are investing on electric energy...

There's a possibility that the price of this electric car will fall by half and production will double in the next two years.

Who knows who else is researching on it and will improve on it?

Who can see the future better?

Elon Musk, CEO and co-founder of Tesla, has unveiled the world’s cheapest fully electric car, Tesla Model 3.

The car, which was unveiled over the weekend cost $35,000 (N11,033,750 at official rate) for the standard version, while the long range version goes for $44,000.

The standard version can travel 354 kilometres on a single charge, and when charged for 30 minutes, it can travel for 209 kilometres.

Musk, who handed over 30 Tesla Model 3 to the first set of buyers, said the demand for the vehicle has surpassed supply till 2018. He added that the auto company had taken orders in excess of 500,000 reservations.

“It’s an amazing car, but we’re going to go through at least six months now of manufacturing hell… There’s 10,000 unique components in the car, and production moves as fast as the slowest one,” Musk told reporters.

“Demand is not a challenge for the Model 3… We do everything we can to unsell the car. Have you ever seen an ad for the Model 3?”

The Canadian-American said the car will not need servicing as often as other cars around the world, promising over a million miles before first servicing.

“We’re designing the Model 3 to ideally not require service. The next-generation powertrain is designed to be roughly a million miles between service, aspirationally.

“This is a great day for Tesla. it’s what we’ve been working for. The point of Tesla was to make a great, affordable car that was better than any gasoline car. It was never our goal to just make expensive cars.”

The car is in line with the world’s decision to move away from fossil fuel to electric cars before 2040.

""The standard version can travel 354 kilometres on a single charge""

The time of electric cars Is still over a century away. A single charge can't even go from Lagos to abuja (around 700km) and @ 11 million, most people in the world won't afford it.
Oil will still be here for a very long time.

The Tanko Yakassai of Nigeria will not agree to RESTRUCTURING OF THE NIGERIA FEDERATION because he prefer to drag the Niger delta oil resources and VAT earnings from Lagos with the people of the south.

If this european can develop such modern cars, what stop the North from developing their agriculture to sustain themselves.

Many of this European country notably France are given up on oil and gas fuel for greener energy.

No wonder Prof Osinbajo caution that our glorious oil days are almost over.

The Arewa Youth that are refusing to look for resources in their own northern territory will know better when the oil become completely useless.

Funny enough, the north have a lot to gain from this evolution.
With the abundant, round the year supply of solar energy, the intelligent and smart billionaires from the north would invest in solar powered plant .

this should be NIgeria friendly

just 30mins charge can take you to work and back for some days

Thank you for thinking and not screaming NEPA and PHCN like the rest of the crowd.

Nigerians only think ,maybe once or twice in a year. The rest of the times, they just react based on ignorance, idosyncracies, urban myths and prejudice.

If at all I want to worry about anything, it would be bad roads and availability of skilled mechanics for routine maintenance or fault fixing/repairs. Since we all do SUVs as our quick solution to bad roads, perhaps we could demand Telsa manufactures an SUV model. Haha..

Success they say have many friends... Am sure if he had commited a huge crime like Terrorism the media would br like " Elon Musk of South African decent " and the Caucasians would have screamed, strip him and all his African brothers the rights of being an American citizen. Mother africa has been losing and is still losing her best people as time goes by.

I currently spend N40k on fuel monthly, imagine the savings for people like me and those who drive even bigger cars. 1 million miles before servicing is just crazy that's what normal cars do every 3000 miles.
