Hello House, Is it advisable to book a US domestic flight with a Naira Card(I won't be traveling with the card) or look for someone in US to pay on my behalf. I have heard of situations where card used for booking was requested during check-in. Also, can I pay baggage fee with cash at check-in.

I had someone with GTB account book my domestic flight last year and I didn't experience any problems. Just hearing this the first time but to be comfortable you can go with the card or take pictures.

The process starts with you registering first with the school you have its sevis numbers to secure visa. You can transfer after a semester. Goodluck!!

He doesn't have to spend a semester there before transferring except the school decides to not release his SEVIS info..someone has outlined the process

Is it TRUE that if a student in the USA book a flight ticket for another new student in Nigeria by making payments online on Qatar airways homepage directly.
The travelling Student will be asked for the Card at Check-in in Lagos Airport

I think thus not to be true.,but to be sure why not contact Qatar airways.

Greetings fellow countri people! Pls i am about to sign and complete my ds 160 form online now.. however, i stated my intended date of arrival on the form as 13th of August, whereas i am yet to confirm if there is any avail date for visa interview for lag this week or at least latest 7th or 8th of this month in order for me to be able to meet up with the reg/start date of 15th of Aug... Need your advise here guys.. on second thought thinking of writing the school for extention as well?? oya make una advise me as mother dey advise girl child into uni oo.. thanks in anticipation.

Guys please... if i shud go ahead to submit the ds 160 form with my intended date of arrival as mentioned above and the sch approves for the extension (yet to mail sch). however, do i need to wait for the sch's approval of the extension before submiting ds form as i feel i may have to change the intended date of arrival.. i am so lost.. Help pls...
Whether school approves the approval is not dependent on your Visa interview. You must go for interview at least 5days to the start day on your i20 except you intend to get another i20 that will carry a latter date. It takes about 3 working days to get your passport back after interview, so you might want to do the calculation yourself. Additionally, you cant enter the US after the resumption date on your i20 except you have extension letter. Having all this in mind, you can arrive anytime so far you follow these rules

Top of the day people. Please I have a slight challenge. I filled the DS160 form and submitted it but I'm unable to access the confirmation page and it logs me out when I try to access the confirmation page. Though I have sent a mail to them asking if my confirmation page can be retrieved coz I need it on the day of the interview. My question now is, can they help me retrieve and maybe send the confirmation page since I have successfully submitted it?

When she asked you "has anything changed yet?" You responded "NO". That is where you made her lose confidence in your. The reality is this, why did you reapply if you have not done a review in your previous refusal and make amendments? The point that you didn't do an evaluation on your past interview shows you are not serious and ready to get the visa.

The embassy has a policy. If you are refused and you wanna really, that's fine but come with something new that will help your case to onveinece the VO. But remember, don't lie or bring false evidence. You can't keep doing the same thing and expect a different result. If you tried the first time and got a refusal, evaluate your interview and preparation and then make some few good changes.

Thanks a lot

People of God please help!!!!
WES sent me a notice that they sent photocopies of my docs to my institution for verification in March but my school confirmed to me that they have not received anything from WES. The woman in charge at the registrars office even opened the email inbox and spam folder of address that they use to receive the docs from WES, we found nothing in my name. Disturbed about that info, I sent several emails to WES asking them to resend to my schoo(even stated the right email address), they confirmed to me yesterday that have sent the photocopies to my school again, but to my surprise my school confirmed to me this morning that they have not received anything yet again. Who has an idea of what is going on pls? I don't even know how to proceed from here. I paid for the course by course evaluation. Is it possible that WES did not send the photocopies of my docs through email? Someone help me pls
I'm currently is the same situation. I am regretting using WES already

Hello everyone!
please can anyone give me names of schools that accept second class lower in the united state for masters in business programs.

I don't think US schools really look at grades in terms of class but in GPA, courses taken and sometimes what your final year grades are.

I suggest you use WES website free of charge to convert your Nigerian GPA to 4.0 scale of US and see what your possibiliies are.

With relevant experience, extracuricular/community service, watertight SOP, outstanding LORs, and excellent GRE/GMAT scores, success is but assured.

The off-campus apartment I picked has requested that I bring a check or money order for the first month's rent before keys are handed over to me. I made security deposits sometime ago with GTB Naira Mastercard and payment was received and apartment secured.

I requested that they allow me to make this payment by cash or dollar card (which I will have on me on arrival) but they said that I could use these to make subsequent payments but first payment must be by check or money order. They also gave me a mailing address should I want to mail the payment ahead of time.

The challenge is that I will arrive in my destination city around 5:30pm and banks are closed at this time. What can I do to have this check or money order on me or mailed to them before arrival to avoid sleeping on the streets on my first day? grin

You should be able to get into a mall when you arrive. Many malls/retail outlets offer Money Order as a service. All you need to do is to get a retail outlet/mall close to the apartment.

please what is the name of the school you are attending?

17th July happened to be my birthday!!!

First timer at US embassy and silent reader.

God bless everyone for your help and insight ,may God enrich you greatly

A guy before me was denied , he sounded so rehearsed and he was shaky even in his tone

Fast forward..

I got interviewed by a young pretty lady windows 8

VO; Goodmorning

Me: Goodmorning

VO: how are you?(with a pleasant smile)

Me: I am great you?(smiling) And vo replied.

VO: please pass me your i20 and passport

Me: here please

VO: why are you going to the US

ME: I am going for my studies

VO: course?

Me: Masters In business administration and management

VO; why this school?

VO: did you write any test?

Me; no please, the school informed me when I come over I can write the test before the end of the first semester(cos of my course,it's allowed)

ME: they are one of the best public universities in the state of Texas, their MBA is certified by the body AACSB and their MBA has a minor concentration in MIS(management Informations Systems)

VO;how many schools did you apply to

Me: three schools and I listed them

(all this while she kept smiling and looking at me as I responded and I looked calm, relaxed and spoke calmly even when my heart was racing)

VO: when did you graduate

Me: 2013

VO:what iv you been doing since then

Me: I completed the compulsory NYSC programme then got a job in **** bank as a customer service personnel....(VO cuts in)

VO:Have you travelled out before

Me: yes please, I travelled to Dubai for vacation 2014

VO: Why did you choose to study MBA?

Me: The knowledge and skill I will obtain, I will apply it to my career goal in the banking industry in Nigeria

VO; she pauses, looks at me while my eye balls were fixed on her. She was quiet for a while and asked me, why are you perculiar about MIS.

That put me off cos I didn't expect it(my luck was my job role, we work hand in hand with MIS team and I genuinely have interest in MIS)

Me: I have interest in MIS because business has gone beyond buying and selling and recording sales, we can now use computers to support and make managerial decisions.

VO: smiles and says I will be approving your visa

Me: smiling and didn't hear anything afterwards(that thing is true oooo, you won't hear anything again)

Slight tips:

Be as calm as possible, it's not easy but imagine you are speaking to your sibling and dress very well and smartly, look the part. I might sound like I'm over exaggerating the VO kept starring at my outfit, weavon, and my wristwatch(not bragging) just look the part

Pray to God aggressively and fast very necessary. It can only be God oooo!!!

VO did not ask for single document

THANKS ONCE AGAIN

Or you can get someone in the US to purchase the money order on your behalf and mail it to the address.

Considering your arrival time, I would really advice you to set up an alternative accommodation for the night. Most new apartment don't have utilities set up, you would probably have to negotiate with the utilities providers yourself. So it means no Water, electricity or Internet.

I really do wonder why some people magnify POE experience like it's another visa interview. As long as you're a genuine student and not planning to run way, you have nothing to fear.
I got to JFK yesterday. Joined the queue. I was so stressed out considering the heavy load I carried and the lesser layover time we had at Casablanca which was as a result of a 2hr delay in departure from Lagos. The queue was also very long and the CBPs were quite slow.

CBP: Is this your first time here?
Me: Yes
CBP: How long do you intend to stay here?
Me: 2yrs
CBP: Why do you intend to stay that long?
Me: "I was so tired that I just said rubbish". I'm going to study Masters programme which is for 2yrs. (who studies masters prog grin)
CBP: can I have your sevis?
Me: I thought he was referring to my sevis payment receipt. Gave it to him.
CBP: No. Your sevis?
Me: Now, I knew he was referring to my i20. Passed it to him.
He checked it and asked me to place my fingers for scanning and that was all. My passport was stamped. Wasn't up to a minute or two sef.

Also, the officers checking luggages simply asked me what I had in my box and i told them. I had already declared the important things like Egusi, Crayfish, Garri etc on the form. My luggages were not checked. I just walked outa there like it wasn't a big deal.

Also, I made use of the NYCAirporter (all thanks to Lagosismyhome's info) from JFK to Laguardia airport and it was hassle free and very comfortable. I made the payment in Naija before leaving($16). By the way, I'm heading to Ohio and I came in through JFK which isn't a big deal. I wonder why people just create unnecessary panic about such instances.

One more thing, if you are going with Royal Air Maroc, you're now allowed to carry your laptops with you in your carry on bags. Don't bother putting it in your checked in baggages. Also, Royal Air Maroc service was okay. The food wasn't top notch though but it was still good.

2 to 3 hours is not enough to dip in and out of New York so please dont risk it..... also i dont advice on you paying for what u have not seen with your two eyes.

It better to rent abnb or a hotel or something cheap for one week when u arrive to give u time to go round. See things for yourself before you pay . Also some schools have student listing where u can find house share with other students
