Guys,

I need some advise; I have property where there has recently been an electricity surge and the pumping machine for the borehole was damaged. Hence I have been told that we need to re-cool it. I have been given the following quote:

.............

Is this quote reasonable?

It is very, very reasonable as long as your name is Dasuki ATM. grin grin

And dont forget to give him 22% VAT as well.

I've just taken up this issue with stone coated roof tiles that come with patchwork colors in another thread
https://www.nairaland.com/3364135/roofing-sheets-cost-various-types/9#59008454

I wanted to ask a wider audience if any one has any experience with longevity of the colors. Close-up, it seems to me they just applied paint by brush - and they're claiming 50 year warranty.

Any experience?

Thanks

The rains have come and many houses are been taken over by excess rain water due to lack of drainage, blockage of existing drainages, erecting structures on water channels without creating alternative routes for such, structures foundation not raised to proper height, etc, etc,etc..............
Archtiects, Engineers, Builders, professionals, advice your clients accordingly to save them the stress in future.
Happy New Month NLs.

What l will tell you is this:

Since your funds are limited, build something that is not too elaborate.
Use say 1/3 of your land (at the back) as a start.
Build your 3-bed flat on it.
Make it very minimal in design
No unnecessary frills. (Time to show-off another build is just around the corner)
Build for functionality now
No parapet, no extravagant Pillar (functional columns are always necessary)
No Hoods or fancy Roofing (Do a flat Roof to save 1/3 on cost of roofing)
Supervise the building (as always be on ground).
Do all purchases yourself, after a careful market sampling

Your #2Million will almost finish your house, as long as you don't try to bite more than you can chew.
Start now, l wish you well

Sir! Ive tried so many places to get info about Flat roofing. Decided to search it on nairaland and viola i found this post...

I have an Archi friend that help me design my house (More of a renovation), and was telling me about a flat roofing. He tried explaining how it was and for it being cheaper than the usual hip roofs. the problem here is, i don't know how they look like and why we (Nigerians) are not using it as frequent.

Simply what are the advantages and disadvantages of using a flat roof design?? thanks in advance

Since you said you never see how they look like, below is how they look like...

1. HIP (Pitched Roof) style roof
2. Flat Style roof

Advantages and Disadvantages:

HIP Roof (Pitched Roof)
Cost More
Difficult to Repair and Clean due to it's height
More Structure and Stability
Reduces Heat because of height
Reduces Sound effect
Effective/Excellent Drainage of Water
Affordable in Long term
Longer life span
You can make use of the Attic space for storage etc.
Aesthetically appealing

Flat Roof
Cost less
Drainage not quite effective
Easily Clogged leading to damage and leaks (if not regularly inspected)
Easy to Clean and repair
Leakage if done properly from the onset
Practical if living in area with little rainfall

I am sure other people can add to the above.

This your Dasuki Atm machine got me laughing hard and sad at the same time, Dasuki and his bunch of 40thieves raped the country without a condom, the money meant to prosecute Boko Haram was shared by heartless vampires at the corridors of power, if only half of that money was used to construct low cost houses across the country and given to civil servants and the millions of masses who are at the extreme bottom of the economic ladder in the form of affordable mortgages and the other half used judiciously to fight the war against the terrorists, Jonathan and his gang of thieves would have left a legacy behind, but even at that the current thieves in power are not faring better, building materials have skyrocketed beyond the sky, many people who wanted to build are struggling, no thanks to the useless, wicked, satanic politicians in power who put on one jankara policy forward and take 50kankankami steps backwards, let me not go beyond this, Nigeria needs a real spiritual rebirth to pull us out of this political and economic quagmire sad

They even paint some inside the warehouse in Ajah there.. But if they offer you 50years warranty, ask for an agreement form and let both parties sign.

That's what I tell clients that can't afford the big Three.

The flood issue cannot be curb totally, ocean has been rising for many decade but human ineptitudes contribute to this issue as well, ocean current would keep overflooding our world.

I dont know a thing about roofing and roofing sheets but from a manufacturing perspective, this looks pretty slapdash.
Maybe its just Me, but a quality product will typically reflect a fair amount of attention to detail and finishing.

. Fallacy of Generalisation.
Except the manufacturer and direct distributor no one can give you a near clear response. I do not think there's any builder on NL or else where who have gone back to check on an installed roofing sheet of a client after years of handing over the property keys.
Nonetheless in as much as there might be fakes in the market be sure to buy from reputable companies who will sign a warranty/guaranty same as it was imported from the manufacturer.
To the best of my knowledge such roof tiles coming from Belgium, Netherlands, Korea meet up their word.

Is nice to short those people that never have anything good to say about their
Country, may be many of them can not see beyond their noises. Because of the way many countries branded theirs. Flooding is not peculiar to lekki or Nigeria alone. Everyday people write shit about their place of birth, do you guys even know how many people been killed in USA every hour? In Chicago alone, I believe the killed more people then in a week then what boko haram kill in a month, when they are not even in war. That was only Chicago alone. How many of those do anyone of their citizens or big media house report. Talk of the entire USA, where guns are sold like candy in most places. Pls enough of this negativity about that country, I'm not saying everything is ok oh, but every county as it own internal crisis many people may not know, and will never know. Many of those countries will continue to brand their countries as the best, I can name few like Brazil and others.

The solar guru's in the house what do you think about this starter pack.

From my own due diligence, it's better to put together your own "starter" pack.

Start with a very good controller that can grow with you. The controller is the hub of the system and the ones that typically comes with the starter packs will be quickly outgrown by demand. Except of course you're powering an RV or shed.

My opinion is worth exactly what you paid for it.

I don't understand the chest thumping about floods and flooding.

So because flood occurs in developed countries then it is okay for it occur in Nigeria?

Could we be the guiding light to show the world how it's supposed to be done? How flood can be planned for and controlled?

The fact is that natural disasters has no international boundary and limit. What humans can do is mitigate the risks and some countries do that better than others.
