Remember that before you accuse others of bad character and the need for them to change....you should take an inward look at yourself, your approach and your very acts. You just might be the one who needs that character overhaul.

Even if you find their character irritating, take it as a pointer to look more introspectively into yourself. Most times, what we see in others at a point in time is simply a projection of what we ourselves equally are.

Love covers a multitude of sins.

Love them even when you feel they are at their worst.
Don't let your negative thoughts be a stumbling block to their healing and progress.
If negative thoughts come, instead of getting angry, and indulging such thoughts, rebuke it and defend them in your mind.

For example, If they are the selfish uncaring stinggy kind and your mind keeps reminding you...rebuke such and think about how you desire them to be.

This is a profound lesson I have learned, I am better for it. It is my hope that it inspires us too to be better too.
