Great News...
Hopefully there's much more to the deal though considering the cost. That is relative to the afghans purchase.

Why is this our contract quite high? I can't quite figure it out.

I think it meets our immediate needs, although I fear future sanctions. The Americans are a funny lot.

I wonder what new equipment the COAS is talking about?

In the Nigerian Army Special Forces School Buni Yadi, he took time to inspect some newly acquired equipments, weapon handling and firepower demonstrations by the troops, after taking part in their physical training and exercise

That's my biggest fear. However with the Alpha jets, we kept them flying despite European sanctions in the early 90s, don't you think we can do same with these?

Most probably, although it may mean cannibalising a few to keep others flying to start off with. There is always the possibility of black market parts from Brazil if necessary wink

Congress can try to block effectively for thirty days, however and this is the Grey area , "45" after 30 days can then issue a waiver. You will then see the hypocrisy of America in action, first they will bring up the RANN bombing on a loop, then they will bring up the Nigerian Military , with Boko Haram and how the American Military helped decimate bh and then finally as has been clearly stated the state where the Planes will be built the Senators will start to cry about the jobs.
I t is not yet uhuru yet but if 45 wants to get this deal done unlike the waffling Obama it means it s a done deal, they however will make Nigeria jump through hoops .

You’re talking about unit cost for those aircrafts while this deal includes spares, maintenance and every other lifetime cost you can think of.

Life time cost for those Gripen and Sukhios you’re mentioning will run into billions.

These super Tucanos have a role to play, they can never replace medium and heavyweight fighters same way you guys have gripens but still dream about French Rafales.

I know in the past NAF has acted so silly and clueless but with the kind of leadership they have now, support from government and the amount of pilots and technicians being trained, I am sure they have their eyes set on something big.

According to Reuters The Super Tucano costs more than $10 million each and the price can go much higher depending on the configuration. So maybe we are going for a mega tucano... http://uk.reuters.com/article/us-usa-nigeria-arms-factbox-idUKKCN0XX09U

But seriously is still very expensive is the price tag for minimum 5 F-35 with some missiles...

Another bad idea
Aren't the Saudis also doing this, Qatar? i wonder why this stuff is allowed.
I'd ask these countries to allow mine to build a base in theirs in return, let's see what they will say to that. I'm pretty sure it would be a big NO
I hate foreign bases in other countries.

Dude we paid just a ball hair under R60 mil a pop for our Gripen, the price also included training, weapons and Saab's maintenance contract which includes not just regular spares and maintenance but also all upgrades when they are made available!!

R600 mil for 12 single engine prop aircraft is ridiculous!!

Dude how much do you think it costs to maintain a single engine prop aircraft??

Let do some simple math:

Lets say your Tucanos last 10000 flying hours( that's pushing it, will more likely be around 5000-6000 in 30 years)

Average cost per hour is about $500p/h ......but for the sake of this argument we can push it up to $800 to include our fixed and other costs as well like training and weapon costs.

800×10000=800000

Plus the base cost which is $15 mil for the latest Tucano.

That equals $23 mil per aircraft........yet you are paying almost triple that??
