This isn't the first time I'm reading this story. All I know is ,no matter how saintly Banjo is painted , he had skeletons in cupboard and that was why he and Ifeajuna were executed. The whole Biafra actualization wasn't based on truth . It has always been a clear case of greedy humans trying to steal power for themselves . Ifeajuna tried it too many times but got caught . If ojukwu wasn't smart enough, he would be mudered by the notorious Ifeajuna without blinking an eye. Ojukwu refused to heed to the advise of the elders (maybe a quest for power or a true justice fighter) but he went into a war anyways ....... Ojukwu realized his mistake years after and rebuked a second war but here we are again ... Some1 who didn't witness the war , he wasn't among the kids that were starved, he didn't go through the hardship of the nation cos he spent his life being the rich son of a king and lived his life in the UK. This man woke up , read some books and he decided to be famous ! He wants to experience what happened before his birth , he wants to take his tribe to the muddy road once again . He is refusing to take advise of the elders again just like Ojukwu did to Azikiwe . He is dragging the un-ambitious persons along in his stupidity !! Call Kanu to order!!! A call for secession is treason !! Azikiwe begged for it in the constitution 6 Likes |

Yes, an Igbo indeed. Probably an Igbo from Ijebu Igbo. Who ever is running that moniker is not good at this impersonation business at all, he is a learner. 6 Likes 1 Share

They finally moved forward by 20Km before being beaten back by another 70Km. Did they make progress or retrogress? 13 Likes 1 Share |

Mrchippychappy: Your people are racists and ungrateful elements. When I was in a regimental institution some years ago, I had read so many books about the coups in Ghana and Nigeria, but later schooling in your land on study leave made me to understand your people better. It is better to give you quit notice out of Nigeria. You are so selfish. Nothing is good except it is your people. No actor / actress or businessman or footballer or musician is good except it is from your area. Rice mills investment in Kebbi is nothing to you but a poultry farm established by your brother can take 20 pages of comments on nairaland. Establishment of petrochemical & refinery by a Nigerian businessman attracts a lot of condemnation by your people but you fought government as a people some years ago to protect your brother importing cement to repackage while others invest to produce locally. Anybody who made Forbes nomination must be insulted on nairaland because they are not your people, but you soon forgot that establishment of refinery at Lekki FTZ is a wastage because electric motors are being rolled out when we are appreciating local petrol / diesel vehicles being produced in your region by an investor. You are the greatest traitors. I think Afenifere , OPC and those crude talkative like FFK & Fayose need to situp. I had expected one of them to reply Prof ABC Nwosu while attacking Awolowo to defend the book 'There was a country' written by Prof Chinua Achebe few years ago, none of them did. I responded but not satisfied. Those making the money using the Yoruba as a coverage are well positioned to respond 7 Likes 1 Share |

These weaklings are subhumans - they have been rolled over and trampled upon by the Hausas, the Igbos and lately the Ijaws have been causing mayhem on their water ways but they wouldn't tell you about that lol, they are low life serpents, forever in the dust. This is a wonderfully insightful piece, but I must say that the core conservative north's adamant non progressive attitudes is responsible for the relevance of people like KANU,the north is always vehemently opposed to meaningful change in this country out of greed, fear n laziness but this should not be so as the north is never never poor, just look at the just past constitutional amendment in the national assembly n the reasons the north gave for opposing devolution of powers to states!,the north always feels it's either they have their way or nothing changes n this is what is causing problems in the polity thus giving rise to kanu's of today. 1 Like |

nkemdi89: Nzeogwu was an Igbo man, because he hailed from an Igbo town called Okpanam. It doesn't matter what he or anyone else think about his ethnicity. Yes, I concur that Nzeogwu was a misguided fellow who refused to see the non feasibility of Nigeria, and through his misguided actions put the rest of the Igbo nation between the rock and a hard place. 3 Likes |

pazienza:If IBO's were wise enough to had dissociate themselves from the coup it would have gone a long way in preventing counter coup, because nzeogwu never had IBO's in mind, it was just his own ideology, when Samuel ogbemudia dissociated himself and every mid west from biafra, and igbos was that not the reason Midwest including that okpanam was not affected by the war. |

nkemdi89: After the Igbo coup plotters killed the Sardauna, Tafawa Balewa, S.L Akintola while leaving Igbo leaders alive, the Igbos in the North went around, taunting the Hausas about how their leaders were killed like dogs. pazienza:He didn't put the Igbo nation, they brought it upon themselves, why didn't ironsi and the rest come out openly and condemned his action, due to their own personal vendetta they kept quiet, and you think the north won't revenge? Even zik was against the move and if ojukwu had kept pride aside, the problem we are experiencing today wouldn't have happen. |

Modsenemy: You are not famous for anything, that's the glaring truth. Kanu remain the number one recognized Igbo leader today , he has the support of majority of Ndiigbo. Kanu seek no fame, he seeks for the freedom of his people, and majority his people recognizes this fact, reason why he commands massive fellowship. Azikiwe had played his role and is no more. Now we the present Igbo generation have a destiny to fulfil, and in Kanu, we had found a brave soul who will not betray this destiny. 4 Likes |

nkemdi89:You are right to an extent, when the coup struck,it was celebrated in the newspapers of the as the Nigerian revolution, but as soon as the counter coup struck,it became the ''Igbo coup'',that is why we are here. And don't forget the asaba massacre, while an entire generation of men were wiped out by the orders of Muritala,so the Midwest wasn't spared as you put it,asaba is just 12 minutes from Okapnam. 1 Like |

nkemdi89: Question 1: Why did Nzeogwu fail to kill Igbo leaders when he killed Hausa and Yoruba leaders? Question 2: Why did Igbos in the North taunt Hausas about the killing of the Sarduna and the Prime Minister? Question 3: Why did Ironsi fail to put Nzeogwu on trial and instead kept him in a prison in Igboland for 5 months? 3 Likes |

While I can not be against any one people's right to self determination, Ojukwu was a very big problem. Same path Nnamdi Kalu is towing. nkemdi89: It may have seemed like his people were betraying him. The northern elite/media played a major role in whipping up tribal sentiments in the north. And so, even though Nzeogwu did not have Igbo Vs Hausa in mind, it was twisted to look exactly so. Ojukwu was a big problem, even to his own cause. 2 Likes |

I doubt if we will ever see a truly united Nigeria. The forces of tribalism and corruption are just too powerful to conquer in all spheres even among the military ranks which is meant to be a strong brotherhood formed in blood and sweat. |
