Aje House, Ibadan, Nigeria Competition winning entry for the redevelopment of Aje House - an iconic modernist tower at the heart of Ibadan’s Central Business District - and adjoining parcels to create SMART offices and a mix of supporting facilities. As part of an invited design competition, a Master Plan has been prepared for the redevelopment of a core area of Downtown Ibadan in Oyo State, Nigeria. This includes the rennovation of Aje House - a 14 storey tower, podium and cluster of smaller buildings and structures amounting to 2,560 m2 of prime commercial space. Within the resultant proposal, the core of the existing structure is retained while the podium is extended to provide a range of supporting retail, commercial and hospitality activities and present a ‘front door’ to Lebanon Road; one of Ibadan’s commercial spines. A separate structure seeks to accommodate parking requirements while a roof top restaurant, bar and lounge frames a view to Mokola Hill and Agobi Gardens. Many people know Olufemi Otedola as the Nigerian billionaire, who has his hands firmly entrenched in the oil sector. But what most folks do not know, is that he is also a big player in the power generation industry as well. His subsidiary known as Amperion Power Distribution Company Limited (Amperion Power) acquired the majority stake in the 435MW Geregu Power Plant located in Kogi State of Nigeria, under the government-led privatization programme in the power sector. Amperion Power tied up a partnership arrangement with the State Grid Corporation of China, one of the world's largest utility company, as its technical partner. The Geregu Power Plant was commissioned in 2007 with three Siemens V94.2 open cycle gas turbine power generation units, totaling 414MW of installed capacity. Each of the 3 units have a rated capacity of 138MW each. The station is supplied with natural gas from two pipelines, a 24-inch wide old pipeline and 36-inch wide 136 KM long new pipeline from the Natural Gas Treatment Plant. These are able to satisfy the gas requirements of 3 units running on a full load of 435MW. The name Geregu is derived from the host local community of the power plant located in Ajaokuta Local Government Area of Kogi State in the North Central area of Nigeria. In addition to these assets, Femi Otedola owns Forte Oil Plc, an indigenous energy company, which has over 500 fuel retail stations located nationwide, and a petroleum products fuel depot with a storage capacity of 147,000 metric tonnes. Forte Oil Plc used to be known as African Petroleum Plc., until govt divested itself of its shares in 2007. He also owns SeaForce Shipping Company, which is said to control one of the largest shipping fleets, in the country. The Geregu Plant is a 414MW gas plant (3 x 138MW, Open Cycle gas turbines) located in Geregu, near Ajaokuta in Kogi State. Its expected productivity is 90%. The plant was commissioned in 2007 and was meant to boost electricity generation in the country. 3 Likes

While Femi Otedola is seen as a successful oil czar, his admirers do not realise that success did not just fall into his laps, but it took a lot of hard work and challenges, for him to make a headway in business. Several years back, Otedola was the second largest shareholder in the downstream oil firm, Texaco. But his plans to buy the company was cut short, when MRS Oil beat him to it and took over the oil company's assets. He retreated and focused more on the diesel market by setting up his own company, Zenon Petroleum and Gas Limited. It turned out to be a great business decision. He also set up a logistics arm with a fleet of trucks and named it F.O Transport. With just one stroke, he took control of the entire chain. He later went further to diversify into property and a number of other large companies. It all paid off. He now has a downstream oil firm in Ghana, known as AP Oil & Gas Ghana Limited (APOG) and also owns Forte Upstream Services Limited (formerly African Petroleum Oilfield Services -APOS) which operates in the upstream petroleum services sector. At one time he was listed as owing Nigerian banks, millions of US dollars. The shares of his company's stock plummeted, and he fell off the list of Africa's richest businessmen. Otedola reshuffled his finances and paid off every cent, according to the Asset Management Corporation of Nigeria (AMCON). The rise in net worth was helped by a spike in the share price of his company, Forte Oil where he owns an 80% shareholding. In 2015, he sold a 17 per cent stake in Forte Oil Plc to Mercuria Energy Group, a Swiss privately held international commodity trading company active over a wide spectrum of global energy markets, for about $200 million USD. Today, Femi Otedola, owns a $53.5-million home in the heart of the exclusive Knightsbridge neighbourhood, in London. He also has a fleet of customised Rolls Royce cars in London, and a fleet of Mercedes cars & SUVs in Nigeria, together worth about $7.7 million. On the offshore banks of Lagos, his sleek, custom-made, $19.5 million yacht berths within the waters of Victoria Island lagoon. Otedola was the second Nigerian to make the FORBES billionaires list in 2009. He may have made a small slice of history by making a billion, losing it and clawing it back. Yet he learnt a valuable lesson through it all. He may have burned his fingers, but now he is humble and bouncing back - much wiser than ever before. https://theeagleonline.com.ng/femi-otedola-the-billionaire-who-bounced-back-by-forbes/ “While my competitors were sleeping, I was busy strategizing. I was liberal too. My strategy was; high volume, little margin. I was very excited at this point. However, I knew that at some point the government would fix the power issue (diesel is mainly used for generators during power cut) and I needed to move a step forward,” he said. 2 Likes 2 Shares

Olukoye Edu is a scion of the well-known Edu family, whose patriarch Shafi Lawal Edu (S.L Edu) passed away, in 2002. He studied law and is currently a Managing Partner in Jackson, Etti & Edu, one of Nigeria’s leading law firms, which provides a wide range of specialist legal services in its practice areas, to international and local clients. Koye Edu founded Moorhouse Properties Limited and serves as its Executive Director. His firm also owns the Travel House Budget Hotels’ which is the first branded chain of comfort budget hotels, in Nigeria. In addition to its currently existing lodging facilities in Lagos, Ibadan etc., the company intends to open 19 new locations over the next few years. Along with his partner Gbolahan Balogun, Edu jointly owns the Moorhouse Sofitel hotel, in Lagos and JDI Investments (owners of Novotel Hotel, Port Harcourt). His company got a loan from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to develop luxury hotels within Nigeria, due to their track record of transparency, business acumen and integrity. Koye Edu along with his partner signed a deal with Accor Hotels, the French multinational resort group which own Sofitel brand of luxury hotels, mixing the best local culture and cuisine, to manage his range of hotels. IFC provided a $2.5 million loan and quasi-equity investment of up to $1.5 million in the form of preferred shares, to construct Edu's new hotel in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria. The new $13.1 million 124-room 4-star Novotel will provide reasonably priced hotel rooms for workers, investors, and other business travelers. The new hotel will alleviate mid-week room shortages in a market where demand is expected to grow as new investments flow into the region. It will also diversify business tourism facilities, contribute to Port Harcourt’s emergence as a business center for the oil industry, and lead to more hotel investment as existing hotel accommodation improves to meet competition and generate demand for services and supplies. The hotel will create approximately 140 direct jobs. 5 Likes
