newafricaken254: The Chinese treat the military as an overlord institution, it's the ultimate arm of the state so it should look like so... In my country, the military is just another state department that's not even more important than the DoE. So if there's no government institution with "statement" buildings then why should the military have one? 1 Like |

The estimated price of a K-52 Alligator is 29 million - $ 32 million, why don't NAF go them instead of current $600 million tucano rip off. |

Let me also weigh in on the old/recent news of the Super Tucano. We have been chasing the Super Tucano since 2014, when the then Nigerian vice-president(Nammadi Sambo) talked about the possible purchase in Brazil to help balance trade with that country which was more in favour of Brazil. For whatever reason, we have instead chosen to buy from the US. However we are still going to get 3x Tucanos from Brazil. From a purely military side of things, the Super-Tucano is the best COIN/LICW aircraft available to Nigeria in the market today. The Nigerian government will buy the aircrafts that we need to deal with the types of threats that we face. We do not spend 10 billion dollars on defence like Algeria to buy what we want and not what we need, we simply don't have that sort of money. The Super-Tucano is not a single role aircraft, i read someone make that comment. The Tucano can be deployed in the ISR role, Ground attack role and Anti-trafficking/smuggling role. It is a modern aircraft with a proven track record. Areas where we have pressing requirements. On the issue of price, so many comments have been made about a rip-off, however if we are so concerned about this perhaps it is time we put our heads down and produce our own Tucano. At 593 million dollars for 12 planes, it seems alot, however let us not forget that Nigeria purchased 12 MI-35m attack helicopters from Russia for 352 million dollars. We are talking about a helicopter we already have the infrastructure on ground to operate. On the Tucano, fresh infrastructure, training, spares, guided munitions and aircrafts themselves for a minimum of 30 years. In my opinion, i don't see any rip-off, we are actually getting value for money. The Tucano is not expected to take on the role of a multi-role fighter, the JF-17s whenever they arrive will do that. The Tucano is going to replace our long serving "dodo birds" in the ground attack role and can perform more tasks than the "dodo birds". The A-29 is a fantastic aircraft for ensuring our national security and would serve us very well. I have always supported the purchase and my support continues to be unwavering. 5 Likes |

Henry240:Its fantastic yes!! BUT you are paying the same amount we paid for our Gripen.....Which also included training, munition and a Maintenance contract(cant remember the length but think its something like 5 years or so, but renewable of course) that included all upgrades as they become available! Afghanistan paid half of what NAF is paying and also got guided munition, training, maintenance ect ect!! anyway maybe the contract includes something we don't know hence the price.... 1 Like |

The selling point for the tucano is loiter time....it can accompany isr aircraft, so it has faster response time....and it carries more payload than the alpha jet....also it can be more precise.....an alpha jet will just run in and bomb a general area, but with a tucano you can select the best target to hit....you can decide to place the bomb in between vehicles to destroy all......whereas with alpha jet if you hit anything you are lucky.......the super tucano is basically a jf 17 with propeller, better optimised for attacking ground targets at a much cheaper cost and better precision than our mi35m 6 Likes |

jln115: Gripen contract was signed in 1999. "Have taken into account inflation?" No! Afghanistan is not paying for anything, the US is. An American company supplying an American client, the contract will not be the same as that of Nigeria. The Afghans will use existing American infrastructure in Afghanistan, they also have available to them existing American munitions, training personnel and aircraft mechanics, lowering cost. What the amount of munition NAF is going for, the number of personnel to be trained and infrastructure to support the Tucanos. What part of the country that infrastructure is to be set-up also could affect the Price. For 30years minimum, that's a good contract. NAF's Aloha jets have been in the air close to 37 years, how much do you think has been spent so far? |

Henry240:True talk bro. All I want to see is super tucano, Jf17/JF17B and the SU30. I don't care about the price as long as we can have them. I just want to see improvement. The British and others feel the same way about F35. |
