OPL stands for Oil Prospecting License. Many of the super wealthy individuals around the world made money by staking risk against the odds of something promising becoming truly rewarding. Sometimes the risk pay off, other times it does not. The act of employing resources at the object is what is called PROSPECTING.

The Federal Government often publicise bid invitation for mining license. When it does those interested will submit bids and the winning bids get the license for exploration. The license is the OPL you mentioned.

Mrs Alakija may have been a fashion designer but her clients were wealthy, which gave her access to information and connection. Growth does not just kcome through skills and knowledge you also need a lot of interpersonal skills to relate and build personal interests. She was good at this. That aside, the name Alakija may be foreign to Ibo ears, but in Yorubaland the Alakijas, particularly in Lagos are well known as a wealthy family. Mrs Alakija's involvement in OPL216 is not individual, she sourced money from family and even invited investors to put money in the pool to bid and purchase the license. They were lucky that their exploration was successful and they struck oil.

When an explorer discovers the resource an OPL changes to OML, Oil Mining License, or Rights, which means they can now derive commercial rewards from their staked risk.

Wikipedia does not tell you the whole story about her. Matter of fact there was an event a while back, I believe a book launch at which Obasanjo had quipped that he made some of the VIPs in the room rich and famous. When Mrs Alakija had her turn at the mic she rebutted him and gave the story of how she struck wealth.

So Mrs Alakija's wealth is legit. Find someone else to pick on for your propaganda.

You think am ignorant? So no funding was made at all to win the bid? If there was any bidding? You made mention of her wealthy clients right? Who are they?

Did you see where I said it is still active? Is Famfa Oil Limited is no longer active?

When it was active, how did she get the money to explore it?

There is nothing OPL in her posession. You kept referring to OPL216 as if the OPL is still active. That is misleading. The OPL was to explore which she did through foreing investment and when they obtained oil their fortune changed. St Ola has repeatedly mentioned the source of her investment but you continue to ignore it. The query is where and how she obtained money to invest. She did so by inviting partners and as well using her wealthy family resource. Like I said, Alakija is already a wealthy family, the oil is an addition and boost to what they were already blessed with. Look at DJCuppy, she is nothing but a DJ but her background is stinking rich. So to call Mrs Alakija a tailor is intended to ridicule her background and this is so because you are all unaware of who the Alakijas are. Apply intelligence when you contribute inputs.

Like I said, Alakija is the wrong pick for you all to attack. You will be well flogged with facts and data that will truly reveal your illiterate and infantile minds.

The CAC, Corporate Affairs Commission, keep an open book on all registered business in Nigeria. Famfa submitted its prospects and company profile to them and is on file for public inquiry. Please act like you received a University education, even if you never got one, for the sake of those here who find uneducated and unintelligent responses offending. Visit CAC or write and inquire about the corporate filing for Famfa and tell them what you need to know.

So why did you ask a stupid question as the title of your thread?

You know she has an oil block, yet you are asking how a tailor became a billionaire?

Since clansmen are no better than alamjiris in intelligence, tell your village gathering that the military regime awarded oil blocks to whomever patriotic Nigerian citizen the government so desired.

Having the intelligence and business acumen to seek out foreign technical partners and negotiate a favourable deal to foot the bill, and then invest heavily to transition from an Oil Mining License (OML) to an Oil Producing License (OPL) is what makes the difference.

Go and educate your hunchback leader on this education you have so received. Also tell him to go look for a job to compensate for his wasted youth.

So what exactly qualified her for an oil block? Being in close proximity to the axis of corruption? cheesy

Now while you are trying to come up with an answer to my poser, please regale us with precisely what constitutes "intelligence and business acumen to seek out foreign technical partners" within a rentier state?

Your mind is confined to trading in small 2x2 shops, this is the most you can think of when it comes to creating and growing a business. The thought of a woman going from design and couture to oil and corporate excellence and becoming the world's richest black woman is deeply worrying and difficult for you to grasp. I also noticed that many of you are well secured in tangible commodities, the idea of prospecting in non-tangibles and features is too complex for you all to understand.

Are you aware that a national budget is a prospect? It is forecasted against future earnings and revenues based on a performance index and calculated growth. For Nigeria, tax revenue and oil proceeds are some of the bases used to calculate budget proposal. If oil decline, budget will not perform. If tax receipts decline because lack of foreign exchange killed businesses that depend on imports to operate, then budget will not perform. But if oil and tax grow beyond forecast, not only will the budget meet expectations, it will be in surplus and exceed projections. Start by understanding how budget works, then you can comprehend how exploration, prospect, rights and rewards all tie together.

Small-mindedness is a disease. Only a small-minded person like you sees money as the most vital of tools one needs to attain greatness in business in particular and life in general. If you were to be smart, you ought to have observed that I answered the question in my previous submission.

Let me dash a free success formula that has stand the test of time. Thus:

- Good attitude
- Valuable aptitude
- Vision
- Financial resources (just a little of it)

A smart person doesn't need to possess a billion naira financial resources before s/he can secure logistics and set-up a billion naira enterprise.

So on point brother...

Very cogent !!!

1 - Folarin recently remarried. Here he is dancing with his bride, joined by Folly, Deputy Governor of Lagos, First Lady and wife os Senate President.

2 - This was taken last year, family portrait, the little grand daughter is growing.

3 - Folly with brothers and sister. Their father, Alhaji Ogbara was a very wealthy Muslim Leader in Ikorodu and had over 50 children. Back in days when it was not popular or common to send girls to university, Alhaji Ogbara's daughters were sent to England for schooling. In fact Folly herself was sent to England at age 7. Her older step sister was in University in England and she and Folly were inseparable, when she left she took her baby sister with her. Because Folly and Doyin were also close, Doyin ended in England also. How many fathers in Nigeria had three daughters enrolled in an England school at same time in the 60s? Not to mention boys that were also schooling at various institutions in Nigeria and abroad. In the 60s! That's wealth! Notice the close resemblance between the sister in this picture and the granddaughter.

4 - Here she is with her step sister Doyin and Doyin's mom. The two were like twins and very close, did everything together.

There are many people whose background and welath you can question, Folorunsho Alakija is not one of them. Her father was wealthy and she married into wealth, then she built wealth. This is old money!

O yes. Thats the level we are now. Laying bare the true nature of the work people did before they became a leader or a billionaire!

A thread was opened before asking the job of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu before he became IPOB leader. Going through the thread, you will notice that it is nothing but yet another smear campaign by the media to bring THE SUPREME LEADER OF IPOB AND NDIGBO down.

After what he was doing before he resigned was brought to light, they shifted goal post that "His networth is that of a Janitor in London". Implying that he is living large off the proceeds of IPOB which is a capital LIE. Lets move on.

Now to the main purpose of the thread. WHAT GAVE FOLORUNSHO ALAKIJA THE MONEY TO acquire a 617,000-acre block of OIL FIELD—now referred to as OPL 216?

A quick glance on her doctored Wikipedia page will show you that prior before " buying" the oil fields, she was

(1) Secretary at Sijuade enterprises (if ever true)
(2) Worked at a bank in Chicago (who will verify)
(3) Established supreme stitches (Who are they in 1992-1993)

Now if you check through the job this woman did prior before "acquiring" the oil field, none could have afforded her the money to acquire the licence to a 617,000-acre oil block —now referred to as OPL 216 NO MATTER HER SALARY. Quote me anywhere.

So to my fellow brethren in LIES AND PROPAGANDA what exactly did FOLORUNSHO ALAKIJA do to get the money to acquire a 617,000-acre block—now referred to as OPL 216 in the AGBAMI OIL FIELD OF THE NIGER DELTA

The people of the Niger Delta and South South be taking note. Because when you see this people attack Nnamdi Kanu violently, you don't understand what they are trying to protect.
I saw this very late, I had numerous mentions I had to attend to.
These people are not interested in what you will tell them, they are looking for something to cling unto. Speaking of a tailor becoming a billionaire over night, they will never question that but they were busy digging the certificate Stella odua, but didn't search for buhari, now the table has turned, they will never talk about it...however will start taking the fight to their doorstep. ..time to time we would dig up things like this

What the feck do you know about how a budget works?

Have you never been told that it is better to remain quiet and be thought of as a fool, than to write and remove all doubt?

Now let me educate you a bit, because I am qualified to do so: you do not need the brains of George Soros to accumulate vast amounts of wealth, when you are connected to a corrupt government administration, in a rentier state.
The truth stands on its own merits despite your reprehensible attempt to sell a lie, by offering puerile revisionism.
