Snapdragon vs Mediatek vs Intel -Processor Importance When Buying a Smartphone by superemmy(m): 12:02pm On Aug 06, 2017 |
Pros and Cons between Mediatek, Intel and Snapdragon Well, Inorder to find out which chipset is better among the three chipsets, first of all we need to know how these chipsets are different from each other. Now, let me explain them in detail 1.) Mediatek: It is a Taiwanese company. It uses more cores in it's processors(like octa core, hexa core, deca core). It is a Taiwanese company. It uses more cores in it's processors(like octa core, hexa core, deca core). Battery Life: The mediatek chipsets are known to be more power draining and results in less battery life. Now they are optimizing their processors to be more power efficient but still lags behind their competetion in terms of battery life. Performance: Performance wise their processors are very good.Due the availability of extra cores, mediatek processors can handle intensive and heavy tasks and they are very good at multi-tasking.But we can see all this practically if we have sufficient Ram.Yes more cores demand more Ram to give best performance. Heating Problem Now coming to the heating problem. All the processors deliver heat while performing tasks. Mediatek processors deliver more heat(more cores=more heat) than the others. Graphics: Coming to graphics,Mediatek employs Mali graphics which is a third party graphics vendor(So graphics architectue is different from cpu and its performance may not match with cpu). It is really important to match the performances of cpu and gpu(graphics) so that the whole chipset performs efficiently and effectively. 2.)Snapdragon: Snapdragon chipsets are manufactured by Qualcomm (American) company. Snapdragon chipsets are not only just CPU's they incorporate other many processors in their chipsets. This is the main difference between Snapdragon and other chipsets. Snapdragon chipsets are named as SoC's(System on chip) which means their chipsets(SoC's) have a CPU,GPU(Adreno Graphics),Image processor,Media processor,DSP(Digital Signal Processor),Cellular Modem unit,Wifi Modue,Radio Module,GPS Module,...etc. All these modules and Processors are inside of a snapdragon chip.Yes they incorporated all these things inside their chips.Hence their chips are costly. Battery Life: Snapdragon chipsets are best in terms of power efficiency compared to all other chipsets. Performance: Performance wise they perform really well. In multi-tasking,gaming,handling heavy and intensive tasks they are very good. Heating Problem: Snapdragon Processors generally deliver less heat compared to Mediatek and Intel Atom(Except the Snapdragon 810 Chipset-that faced many heating issues.) Graphics: Coming to graphics, they manufacture their own graphics called Adreno Graphics and incorporate into their chips. So here the performance of cpu and gpu are matched. 3.)Intel Atom: Every one is familiar with Intel processors because they are dominant in the PC market. Intel Atom processors are the initiative taken by the company to enter into mobile segment.Intel processors are best in PC's but when it comes to mobile they have faced one problem...! Battery Life: Yes, the problem they faced is Battery life. Intel company has experience in manufactuting processors for PC's which consume power in watts(say 40 watts and above) but when it comes to mobile platform where the processors should run on power less than 5 watts, they had a problem in optimizing their processors to work on low power. Don't worry that is all in the initial stage when they entered into mobile market. But recently in Q3 of 2015 they have announced their Mobile processors called core M-processors for mobile platform like tablets and smartphones. These processors are very power efficient and they consume power of 5 watts and below. But we may only see them in Smartphones or Tablets in 2016. Performance: Performance wise, i think i don't need to tell you how Intel Processors do. They are very good both at PC's and on Mobile. Heating Problem: Intel Atom Processors also deliver more heat when running heavy and CPU intensive tasks or while using for long duration.Let us see how their core M-Processors perform. Graphics: Intel, till now used third party graphic vendors like Power VGR and Mali graphics in their CPU's. Intel also have their own graphics called Intel Iris Graphics which they introduced in their 4th generation core i-series Source: Quora For the potential android tecno, infinix, nokia, xiaomi etc users you can find out more which device would better suit your needs especially if you are considering mild, light or heavy usage on games, applications and internet connectivity. 13 Likes 7 Shares

OP, thanks very informative. But those are the popular ones. Samsung's inhouse chips Exynos, are the most energy efficient chips. Also Huawei has its own SoC branded as HiSilicon Kirin eg HiSilicon Kirin 960. it can be found in some of its high end devices like P9. 19 Likes |

superemmy: Op you're generalising too much in some aspects such as battery life, graphics and heat. Qualcomm produces many SoCs each with their peculiar behaviours, same with mediatek. Intel atom is one type of processor. There are mediatek processors that perform better than some Snapdragon SoCs, this is because there are different processors at different price points. That's why the mediatek x20 is superior to the Snapdragon 430 20 Likes 2 Shares |

superemmy: Mr copy and paste, next time check all the facts before u post, eg, for the fact that a processor uses more cores doesn't mean it will generate more heat, 1) most of the cores are idle wen u aren't pushing ur phone prowess much 2) bigger cores produce more heat than smaller cores 3) Manufacturing process goes a long way too, eg, 20 nm vs 10 nm process etc Also, mediatek might rely on third party for its CPU bt what will u call a cpu that has everything just like Qualcomm? Do u have any oda name apart from SOC for it? As a matter of fact, apart from Intel, almost all oda proceedings producer for mobile platform are SOC... Also, all these company also price proceeds that aren't SOC too, including Qualcomm.... U hear? 5 Likes |

NCP: Be realistic. Wait o, what am i even saying? The big little technology is from from ARM is first implemented by mediatek... In another news, these days ur battery depends much on how much the OEM optimized their battery. You must have had a bad experience with tecno, infinix and co, that claim big battery capacity bt in reality, it's 3000mah or less... Lexusgs430, how long does ur mediatek powered phone last? LAFO: Using illustrations of phones in mid range that use the differing chipsets, we have: Xiaomi Mi 5 is powered by 1.8GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and it comes with 3GB of RAM. Officially unveiled in November, Qualcomm will be hoping the Snapdragon 820 both sets new standards in the mobile processor space, and overcomes the problems that have dogged its predecessor like overheating which affects both performance and battery life.. Qualcomm is claiming the new SoC will consume 30% less power improving battery life and performance. Infinix Note 3 Pro Infinix Note 3 Pro comes with Helio X10 MT6795 coupled with 3GB RAM1.3GHz octa-core CPU. Earlier this year MediaTek launched its new Helio brand of SoCs. Unlike the bland sounding MTxxxx range of SoCs, the Helio branding brings MediaTek into line with Samsung and Qualcomm with their Exynos and Snapdragon brands. The first MediaTek Helio SoC is the Helio X10, an octa-core processor with four 2.0 GHz Cortex-A53 cores and four 2.2 GHz Cortex-A53 cores, backed by a PowerVR 6200 GPU. If that setup sounds familiar it is because that was also the specs of the MediaTek MT6795 and, as far as I can tell, the Helios X10 is in fact just a rebrand of the MT6795. Lenovo's K900. This is a great phone with stunning specs it is powered with new Intel Atom processor of 2GHz with 2GB RAM. The phone runs o Intel's 64-bit Atom 2GHz quad-core processor, and supports LTE-Advanced (FDD and TDD), which offers theoretical download speeds of 150Mbps. It's also packing a huge 4000mAh battery that Lenovo tells us will last about two days. Depending on specs, pricing range and availability of these devices here are just a few examples of which phones use what chipsets. 3 Likes |

dims95: I totally agree with you when you say "there are some mediatek processors that perform better than some snapdragon socs..." However in exposition of this statement. The only reason for this is the time period and price point like you stated in development of the chipsets which is a result of technological advancements. For example you cannot compare a snapdragon 430 to a mediatek x10 helio, both time periods of development differ. One was made in a different and later year than the other with notion to improvements on efficiency, capacity and energy consumption.. 3 Likes |
