the major disadvantage of using electric cars in the part of the world is traffic. if your electric car charge is supposed to last you 3 hours and you spend over 1 hour in traffic, you won't get much from using it

Actually, this is where electric cars shine... since you're not using the motor much for that 1 hour, battery won't discharge much. Just like if you don't use your torchlight, the batteries will last for weeks or months. Conversely, the petrol engine is always cranking (unless you always turn it on and off in go slow). Same with generator... even if you don't use any light, your gen will run out of petrol if run continuously.
