overhypedsteve: Why did the countries with better platforms not come and stop our invasion. Intelligence had it that before the invasion, countries like Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Uganda etc lobbied hard to be in bed for protection with some of the 5 billion dollars His Excellency Prof. Dr. Alhaji Sheik Yahya Jammeh was believed to have salted away during his years in power. We know the history. U can't change it, sry for u. Well those same Alpha Jets you under-rate and NNS Unity made the difference. Besides some of those countries are in conflict and with their platforms does not even come close to what we have achieved in CT/COIN & Conventional warfare. U think warfare is just platforms. Where is the Ugandan Su-30 in Somalia. If Nigeria was in Somalia with it's Alpha Jets, the situation would be a whole lot better, it's a fact. We have proven history of getting the job done. Shoot! The ignorance on this page. 6 Likes |

Covert1: I like this reply. Many countries haven't achieved any meaningful thing with their fighters jets. The Ugandan have many troops in Somalia but only Kenyans fly attack aircrafts in Somalia not because theirs is better. 3 Likes |

Covert1:exactly what I am talking about. You keep trying to convince yourself that the alpha jet is the best thing for us. The successes made so far have not been because the platform is too good, but cus of the skill and dedication of the men flying it. These men will perform even better on a much better platform. 2 Likes |

iblawi: I like this guy. I take u for an assorted gentleman with counter-intelligence potential. Exactly why I don't notice the broad sides of our friend from the east of the continent. Actually the Kenyans have a military with professional military tradition. They may not have Sukhoi's but they actually have an Air Force with strike Capabilites. They have not done badly in Somalia. It's a difficult place. It's takedown of Kismayo was impressive. The merits of the Nigerian military in Somalia is that -- the Nigerian Air Force in particular --that can bring to bear the huge amount of sorties & real-time on-the-spot-intelligence strike capability needed to decimate Al Shabaab into a marauding bandit militia. And beyond that pay for our combat operations, something hardly anyone here mentions. That is power. 2 Likes |

AIR POWER CRITICAL TO COMPLETE DEFEAT OF BOKO HARAM – CAS The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has stated that global experience shows that air power is critical to the defeat of asymmetric warfare such as the Boko Haram insurgency. He said this on 7 August 2017 while visiting the frontline troops at the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Base in Yola. “All hands must therefore be on deck to ensure the effective projection of air power to complete the defeat of the Boko Haram challenge”, he said. Accordingly, the CAS urged all the personnel to ensure that all the NAF aircraft committed to Operation LAFIYA DOLE remained serviceable and operational for the NAF to effectively project air power. He also assured the personnel that the Service Chiefs had started exploring how to improve the synergy among the 3 Services towards putting a final end to the Boko Haram menace. While on the visit, Air Marshal Abubakar expressed appreciation to the NAF personnel for their continuous selfless efforts towards ensuring that Nigerians are able to go about their normal businesses without fear. He also commended their efforts in maintaining aircraft and associated equipment, which had enabled the NAF to fly over 9000 hours in the previous 2 years alone, in prosecution of the counterinsurgency operations. The CAS added that there was no doubt that the security situation in the country had improved but he was quick to add that the NAF could still do more, especially in view of the recent setbacks. Air Marshal Abubakar therefore charged the personnel to redouble their efforts at further ensuring the security of the country, remarking that Nigerians expected more considering the huge taxpayers’ resources being expended to sustain the operations. While making comments, most of the personnel appreciated the efforts of the NAF leadership in creating a conducive environment to operate. A few highlighted some challenges bordering on operational, training and welfare matters whereas others suggested additional infrastructural development to enable them function better. The CAS promptly addressed all the issues raised, to the satisfaction of the personnel. He subsequently cautioned the personnel on the need to take absolute care of the equipment entrusted in their care as well as to always adhere to all the safety standards and procedures already in place. The CAS also seized the opportunity to inspect ongoing projects on the NAF Base in Yola. Air Marshal Abubakar later returned to Maiduguri, where the Air Component Commander briefed the Honourable Minister of Defence, Mansur Mohammed Dan Ali and the Chairman Senate Committee on Defence, Senator Abubakar Kyari on recent air operations. Afterwards, both the Minister and the Chairman took turns to address the NAF officers, praising them for their professionalism and dedication to duty. The Minister and the CAS also addressed some of the NAF Special Forces, who are fighting alongside the land forces. The main essence of the visit was to enable the CAS thank the personnel for their efforts, listen to their inputs and possible challenges as well as to urge them to show more commitment to the ongoing counterinsurgency operations. i was kind of waiting for u guys to give the real reason as to why the deal of twelve A-29 Super Tucano for Nigeria is kind of expensive. so the answer is : becz the sale is happening under U.S. Department of Defense's Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program. it is a government to government deal, the DoD/pentagon generally does the FMS deal on behalf of the US government. under this 1.the buyer has to pay a percentage of the deal amount as service/processing fee. included inside the final deal amount. 2.the cost price of the equipment under sale is higher than the amount the US government pays for the same equipment. 3. acquisition in support of FMS cases are conducted in the same manner as it is for U.S. requirements, hence the costs looks/ends up high from the perspective of other countries . 4.generally deals under FMS route comes as a bundled package. generally it includes a.spare parts support b.ground support equipment's c.associated training d.associate services like end user monitoring e.related infrastructure development f.associated surveys etc etc 5.generally FMS deals includes stationing of on-site training teams and contract logistic support teams. also advisors will be stationed for SOP formulation and integration for effective utilization of the equipment's during combat . etc etc i hope now u realize why the deal looks expensive. info: Sierra Nevada Corporation is the prime contractor/OEM for the DoD/pentagon (on behalf of the US government) for the Nigerian tucano deal . note : claiming secrecy/classified about the tucano deal is pure baloney all deals under FMS is kept transparent and open to scrutiny under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA), except for certain cases. all secrecy/classified will go out of the window when the deal comes up for the congressional review 8 Likes |
