Pls read this post below and take note of the fact that Eastern seaports are not listed on international destinations of other countries.

This is a deliberate policy started during Obasanjo's military time and repeated when he became a civilian President

Amberon11 : 3:06am

"......Your dad was very correct.

My sister has worked with two shipping companies.

One in PH and she is currently working with a very big shipping company in Lagos.

It is rather absurd that Blue3k who seems to be very bereft of any knowledge concerning matters relating to freight forwarding is the one going about calling people daft.

The fact of the matter is that the seaports in most countries DO NOT even have the Onne and Rivers Ports as destinations on their list.

Meaning they do not recognize them and do not ship to those destinations.

That is clearly why they are mostly used for onward crude oil related shipments.

From what she said , they sometimes had no problems shipping from PH but receiving was a huge problem as they would have to come in through Lagos ports.

Its the same way we have several so called "international airports" in Nigeria but Turkish or Qatar airways will never land in Port Harcourt.

They will only bring you in through Lagos and transit you to PH using other airlines.

Also, the Onne and Rivers Ports are shallow and won't allow for very large vessels.

Only Lagos ports can accommodate such huge vessels.

Do not listen to Blue3k ask anyone into freight forwarding to know more......"

How many of you know that Tincan and Ibaka seaports were proposed during Obasanjo's time but he intentionally abandoned Ibaka seaport

See the story below for better understanding

The problem with you, is that you keep blaming PDP while forgetting that Obasanjo a Yoruba man ruled for 8years out of the 16years without doing anything to implement the original idea of constructing Ibaka seaport.

So if we end up saying that Obasanjo who was a military president in the 70s and in the 2000s deliberately failed to implement the original idea of constructing ibaka seaport as part of Yoruba deliberate policy to keep the Eastern seaports moribund in importation, Don't You Think We Are Right.?

Blue3k Ask Sarumi and Bamanga Tukur for a start

"In the twilight of General Yakubu Gowon’s administration in the mid-1970s, the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) was battling with the problems of ports congestion as a result of massive cement importation.

The government decided to build two new ports to ease the transaction costs associated with shipping and to ensure adequate facilities for Nigeria’s import and export needs.

A feasibility study was carried out and the experts recommended the creation of two new ports; one in Lagos and another in Ibaka, in present day Akwa Ibom State.

These projects were contained in the 3rd National Development Plan.

The one in Lagos is the Tin-Can Island Port commissioned by the then Chief of Staff, Supreme Headquarters, and deputy to then military Head of State, Genera Olusegun Obasanjo, now late Major-General Shehu Yar’Adua on 14th October, 1977.

Ibaka Port was never constructed, purportedly on the advice of the then Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and current Chairman of the ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) – Alhaji Bamanga Tukur.

I heard Tukur’s argument was that instead of starting a new port from scratch, the same resources could be used to revive existing and nearby Calabar Port.

Government bought his argument and a huge amount I’m still trying to find out was used to revive the port. The new Calabar Port Complex was commissioned on 9th June, 1979.

I heard Alhaji Tukur has a wife from Calabar. Now I’m not sure if his wife influenced his decision or if his support for Calabar port made the community bless him with their daughter. But anyhow, it is clear that the decision is a wrong one because Calabar Port is still moribund.
Fast forward to 2006 when Alhaji Bamanga Tukur’sson, the iconic Chief Adebayo Babatunde Sarumi, was in charge of the Nigerian Ports Authority.

A princely sum of 56 million dollars (about N9 billion) was spent on dredging the Calabar Port channel.

The dredging contract was awarded to two dredging firms: Messrs Jan de Nul and Van Oord. The federal government divided the entire length of the channel in Calabar Port between the two firms.

While Van Oord was paid $26 million to dredge kilometre 0 to 46, Jan de Nul got $30 million to dredge kilometre 46 to 84. According to the scope of the contract, the two firms were to scoop out 25 million cubic metres of sand to achieve an overall draft of 8 metres to allow big vessels call at the port.

Not one big ship has called at the port ever since because while the companies collected their monies and walked away, the channel remains as shallow as ever.

Of course the appreciative Calabar community honoured Chief Sarumi with a chieftaincy title."

Take note that Obasanjo was the head of state during that time Tincan and Ibaka seaports were proposed

The same Obasanjo never built an international airport in the SE until the coming of Jonathan.?

Why did Obasanjo act the way he did.?

Ask yourself why Obasanjo said Nnamdi Kanu must be stopped by all means.?

Ask yourself why late Yar Adua struggled to dredge River Niger.?

You this clown can't even do your propaganda with some sense!! You say "Eastern ports aren't listed on international destinations of other countries" so where does the cargo imported through them come from? Jupiter?

Are you blind to see that those same ports you use to perpetuate your victim and persecution complex actually process import cargoes as well as export? Where does the cargo come from? Aba and Onitsha?

In fact, GEJ was president for 5 years and Diezani was transport minister for sometime. Why didn't he dredge your Niger for you? You had to go all the way to yaradua who spent less than 2 years, to apportion blame because it must always be other people's fault?!!

Try use your head to think a little before you start your crying and blaming games na!! Is that too much to ask? angry

Stop hiding behind what she wrote. Write your own and put verifiable links that show this policy of strangulation!! Nothing in her post indicates that. It's hearsay which I've never heard before and needs verification.

To show how wicked your heart is, you accused sick yaradua who spent less than 2 years of promoting the marginalization yet you didn't mention Jonathan who spent 5 years with Diezani as transport minister for sometime.

This guy. Forced by whom? In 2016 I had to import some books from China. My shipper had both options. Onne and Lagos. I spoke to CFI a clearing agent based in Port Harcourt. They assured me I could import to Onne.

I chose to import to Lagos because I figured that all these Igbo importers who import to Lagos must have a reason for doing that. I had no experience in importation and was not going to take the risk.

What I am trying to say is that I personally found no reason why Onne is not being used.

Lets stop this victimization card we always play. We need to start asking our own leadership real questions.
I used to believe all the marginalization story until I started trying to understand the real issues myself.

I don't have the time now, but when I do I will give you proper analysis complete with data on our ports and the usage. And you'll find that our leaders in the SE and SS are lying to us to cover for their own failures. The story of propping up Lagos ports is all falsehood. Infact , on some parameters, Onne port actually trumps both Apapa and Tin an Ports. Combined, Lagos ports control just 57% in tonnage terms while Delta and Rivers and Calabar ports control 43%.

Ask an Onitsha trader why he shipped his goods to Lagos and the only reason is that his agent who is from Anambra state is located in Lagos. There are ships going to all the ports. We just dont use it. Our minds are just fixated on Lagos.
Infact the best maintained and most organised port in Nigeria is Onne port and it is not much more expensive than the Lagos ports.

Lets stop this useless victim mentality.

Why didnt Jonathan build the IBAKA PORT?? Why didn't he dredge the Calabar River? Babangida and Abacha made sure LNG was built in Bonny. Jonathan couldn't put a stone on Brass LNG. We need to begin holding our own leaders responsible. This useless victim mentality is allowing us tolerate their uselessness.

Below are some statistics. Like I said, if I have time later, I can give you a clearer picture on many of these issues.

NB
And to think about it, shouldn't we be more interested in outward traffic (Exports) than Inward traffic (imports).
Delta and Onne control 90% of outward traffic which means both of these ports are very well equipped to ship goods out of the country which we should be looking to take advantage of by exporting our goods as against complaining about Lagos ports handling imports.

What conspiracy are you guys talking about?

You mean Yoruba leaders woke up one morning and decide to truncate success of those eastern ports, are they responsible for the corruption bedevilling the NPA for not dredging the shallow ones, what procedural steps have Yorubas initiated that stopped shippers to use the eastern ports?

In a country where billions has been spent on electricity, roads, hospitals and other social amenities with absolutely nothing to show for it, the average ones are stifled with corruption, some bastards are blaming Yorubas?

Majority of pigbos are just cursed with envy, its not our fault that the British decided to build a fairly good port in Lagos, at least they were in calabar where they transport your forefathers as slaves before moving to Lagos, so how are Yorubas also responsible for this? Lagos state is building another one, Ondo and Ogun are about to start Olokola, when ships start berthing blame Yorubas as usual without holding your worthless leaders responsible.

You guys won't blame the failures of basic infrastructure on Nigeria but Yorubas, it's a well known fact that your useless uncles truncated the working system we had before this unitary government.

And to that old fool 'patience' Ibadan was the second most populous city in Nigeria during the regional system, no city was her equal, your fathers and uncles literally had their lives shaped there, any rot in Ibadan was due to migration to Lagos as the federal capital, Yoruba held Ibadan as their first and Lagos second at that period of time, and as it stands today none of your useless hamlets in the east can compare with Ibadan.

Well f you must know, obj is a product of the caliphate. So was Awolowo.

How?

They were both imprisoned by the caliphate, freed by the caliphate and made to rule by the caliphate.

And if you check, those were the two southwestern leaders we've had since Independence. Rooted in the north, their brainboxes had been preburned with the caliphate ideology. What is the problem with these northern Muslims?

The day this Eastern folks wake up to the fact that "the insect eating away their vegetable stays on the vegetable" is the very day that all their problem will disappear. The thing is, it's quite hard to help someone who believes all his problem stems from other people and not himself. GEJ's tenure was the minority's chance to show that they are capable of solving their so called developmental issue but they waste it all away. An Yoruba man like myself does not care whether you bring in goods from Lagos or Onne. So ask your polithiefcians some questions...... sit GEJ down on the black muddy ground of Otuoke and ask him why he refused to give his region a facelift they needed even though he had 6 years to do it.

Blue3k:

It's a clown story with no links or stats. He's the same guy making daft claims saying shallow port is not function because it's not a deep water port. It's not supposed to. It's the same as claiming a Chevy Camaro is dysfunctional in doesn't have same cargo room as Chevy Suburban. It's nonsensical to say the least.

List which country doesn't have it as international destination. We just supposed to take his word at it without link or screenshot. Which are the country currently using it for non oil imports.

Lastly Onne can accommodate the same ships as Lagos. These are berth depths listed on NPA website. I don't care for his colloquial stories.

Next why didn't PDP correct mistake in 16 years. Why didn't the all military heads not correct it. Why is it Fulani Buhari that federal government approved money for Ibom port. Blame your useless sons of the soil you elected.

Lol typical sore loser counter thread. See the Annihilation on my thread. 5 pages and nobody can explain what's stops them from using the port.

How come onne that can handle big ships happens to be privatized making it the most expensive port in nigeria

He he interesting thread. They just love to play victim mentality as if yorubas are the ones holding them back. I won't be surprised if KANU tells them a Yoruba man is responsible for his inability to impregnate his wife. Bunch of clowns
