Although, cheating isn't gender specific but I think men tend to cheat more because male cheaters are fairly castigated by the society, unlike the female folks

When it comes to cheating, women are smarter so they hide theirs, Carry out covert operations successfully. The worst thing for men is that women have innate detective minds to catch a heating guy fast. So that makes it look as if men cheat more, but women are the real cheaters and are excellent in covert operation. They don't get caught as easily as men.

Both sides cheat to be honest. It is wrong no matter how you see it but what causes it is because they are not truly in love with the person they are dating/married to. Couple who are really in love do not cheat no matter what happens.
