Let me ask a question about the tracking device.

I bought my car Naija used with a tracking device i never used. Thats because the seller gave me the instructions and tracking number written with 2 digits skipped. I was told the 2 digits verbally but even a call to the number never went through. Fast forward to 2 days ago after about 3 years, i called the number and it rang with no answer. The number flashed me back an hour later. I didnt bother to reply the call. Its obvious it has been reallocated.

The only visible thing i see is the audio mic. I have never traced it to the tracker but may do. If i do, can i change the sim and possibly get it back to function? My car has never been immobilized by it.

vehicle registration: I have contacted our ever reliable pattybf (https://www.nairaland.com/pattybf) for a change of ownership, I intend using the old plates from my toyota avensis on this vehicle.

If you are a regular road user you will understand why I do not want fresh plates.

Let me explain.

First thing the boys in black and the boys in grey look at before stopping a vehicle are the plates, plates are rolled out serially an they know fresly registered vehicles from old ones, and with shiny new plates ill be a bulls eye for the boys inblack a the boys in grey.

I will prefer to keep a low profile and reduce the time spent on explaining and showing papers.

Simple.

Sample cheap generic Chinese tracker


It will come with a couple of wires

Theses are the main connections, they keep the tracker alive, and it can detect when the vehicle is running and when it is off.

+ constant 12v positive supply
(-) negative or ground
Ignition: +12v ignition


Next set of wires

Mic connection if available
GPS antenna (always available)
Relay connections (to disable vehicle when instructed to)

The tricky part:

How to connect the relay.

1.do not use that crappy relay that comes with any of the trackers even if it's a tramingo. Buy a used (toks relay for a car) it will last longer without any hick ups in the near future.

Next install 2 trackers.

Make 1 easy to find. And the other really hard to find.

Reason for installing 2 is to make the finder comfortable that vehicle is now secure.

Next select what you want to disable.

Toks engine history? Buying a used Toks engine (history or not), is a gamble.......

Just buy and try to get a warranty period aka safety margin. If an engine is solid at first installation, it's always a good sign.........
